The Horror Thread - Part 6

I was on the fence if this film should ever be remade or rebooted.
I thought that of the Evil Dead & the remake wasnt terrible but not up to par with the original either.

Yeah the Evil Dead remake was great. And even Sam Raimi said that it was the movie that he wanted to make originally, but didn't have the budget, effects, or professional actors to pull off.

Also Jane Levy is fantastic in that film.

Agreed on Evil Dead. I've still yet to see Don't Breathe, I've been wanting to.

DB is superb, a very different film to Evil Dead and a different 'type' of horror, but again, the acting is very strong, Levy is excellent again and the twist is very clever, highly recommend watching it.

She was indeed fantastic, great performance.

I'm gonna hopefully get around to watching it soon.

Stephen Lang was great as well. But then again he's almost always great.

Have yet to see DB but the Evil Dead remake was gruesome, and I mean that in the best way possible. Definitely amongst the superior remakes and one of my favorite remakes as well.

Definitely it didn't pull any punches or hold back, was super gruesome.

And it somehow managed to make THAT scene even more messed-up than it was in the original.

Yes it did. Very few movies actually manage to make me cringe but ED accomplished that again and again (and still does with every viewing).

I wish it had a proper US release. It's easily gonna be one of those cult classics.

It should have. Audiences need to get over their fear of subtitles. They're missing so many great films.

I'm a little sad now that with "Ash vs Evil Dead", we probably won't ever be seeing Mia team up with Ash on screen.

That 'the void' trailer looks bonkers beyond barking. :loco: Brilliant but barking.

Finally got around to seeing Lights Out.

I have a bias against haunted house/possession movies. Most of them are the exact same film, filled with jump scares and violin screeches instead of scares. But this wasn't bad. I liked it more than The Conjuring 2 (which I didn't like at all) and Ouija: Origin of Evil. I thought the use of mannequins as part of the stepdad's job was a smart idea...and there were some good shots involved...and the basic concept was cool. I'm not sure that the director pulled the greatest performances out of his actors...but I'm okay with that. I'm not entirely sure on the demon/ghosts powers though. Generally, [BLACKOUT]she disappears when the light hits her[/BLACKOUT]...but a few times [BLACKOUT]she doesn't and burns instead[/BLACKOUT]. Not a huge deal.

Anyway...better than I expected.

The campiness of the original is what makes it a classic. No one expects or asked for that in a horror movie. But it worked & made it different.

Anyone interested in seeing the indie movie "Terrifier" based on Art the clown?

I saw The Void at a festival and it's so good. It reminds me of Halloween 2 meets The Thing lol. The ending will have ppl on here talking. It's weird...but it's the type of weird I really like.
