The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Parts 1 & 2

Eh. Lionsgate probably got their production budget for Part 1/Part 2 just for the opening weekend (US/Overseas) of this film. The film is doing good business despite not matching Catching Fire's opening weekend numbers. And its not like Lionsgate is always getting this amount of box-office gross. The Hunger Games is their biggest movie franchise and it will be for quite some time.

Anyway, I just can't wait to move on to Part II and see how it all ends.

The theaters in my city are full because of this. :woot:

Just watched this.

I think Francis Lawrence did a great job directing. Great production design, cinematography, editing, etc.

This series just isn't for me though. Although the overall story sucks me in, every time I hear 'jabberjay', 'Panem', 'mockingjay', 'PRIM!', 'Peeta', 'Katniss', 'the girl on fire', or any time I hear that whistle or see that three finger salute, I don't know why but I just can't help but roll my eyes. I just don't buy it. This is coming from someone who's able to take Aquaman seriously.

Also, Jennifer Lawrence's acting, while very impressive at times, also made me cringe on numerous occasions.

Do you mean in this movie in particular or all the movies.

I do agree that in this one i was cringing during a lot of her crying scenes in this one, but again that's how she was written in the book. Understandably, she cried and a lot more

I like the song part, at first It was kinda awkward for me to see Jennifer Lawrence sing but I liked that the song became an anthem to their revolution.

i think that has a lot to do with the PTSD and trauma she's dealt with. that's a lot on a person period, let alone someone who is still technically in her teens

i saw this tonight. didn't hate it, but i kinda agree that a 3 hr film combining both could probably work.

the scene in district 8 with the hospital was very powerful, and i was super excited to see Patina Miller as one of their leaders. i''m fairly sure i was the only one in my theatre who even knew who she was.
a lot of people expect violence and action in these movies, and that was never the main focus of the films or the books. they are in war, but we are seeing the backgrounds, not the front lines. it's fairly interesting, paricularly the propaganda, the subterfuge, etc.
also, i don't know if it's the way F. Lawrence is filming it or what, but i really dig the way the films are shot. some scenes feel like i'm not in a theatre watching them, but nearby in the room or something.
effie was a plus in the film, i'm glad they kept her and are using her instead of the other one from the book (flavia i think?)

it was eerie to me to see Hoffman in the film, especially when his first dialogue is responding to a question about whether someone is dead or alive.

I take it you never read the books?

I don't read YA books. Not my thing. I literally cannot think of a story with an adolescent or younger protagonist(s) that even remotely interests me(maybe Spider-man but then I've never been a big fan of him either). I think that's one of the reasons the Star Wars prequels are so reviled. They it's like Lucas turned SW into a YA franchise. The idea that kids need other kid characters to get through a story is BS.

Now I've read The Hobbit and that's a children's book that I love but that's from a different time period where they didn't coddle kids about tough subjects like death and evil and such and plus there are no children in that book.

as I said it's understabable but its still a bit grating to me. It's like in a horror movie or a movie with a lot of action and a character is scared and screaming, I understand it but it's still grating to me at least.
But not so grating that I took points off for it

I got no issue with him but he's just not my bag. I've always been a Hulk and Iron Man fan and not much else.

He just doesn't like kids in general. He's mentioned it in the past.

True. I didn't care much for them even when I was one of them. All I wanted to be was an adult so I wouldn't have to deal with kid stuff anymore.

But these days I can tolerate kids on an individual basis, like my nephew who's 2. I'll take the younger ones over teenagers. They're the worst.

Neither does Hunger Games and Harry Potter.

Yes, I've heard that about them. And if that was the only thing keeping me away then I'd probably watch those movies. But it isn't.

I am confused. If you don't like these types of films or stories outright, what are you doing in here? Complaining to complain?

I saw it yesterday.
It is a good part 1
But, it is only half a story.
