The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Parts 1 & 2

Finally saw this tonight. I liked the books, so I enjoyed it for what it was...but there was no need to make two movies out of this. I feel like it killed all of the momentum from Catching Fire.

I'm not a big fan of splitting a book into 2 movies, but Mockingjay is a rare exception.
Unlike THG and CF, MJ is a bit of a mess. It feels rushed and glosses over a lot of parts, it needed 2 movies to properly flesh it out and properly pace it.

MJ part 1 is about what I expected, a lot of set up for Pt. 2 and only minimal action. Pt. 2 should be much more interesting as it has most of the action and some unexpected things happen which would be getting into serious spoilers to delve into.

Still, MJ Pt.1 is still pretty good, I was pleasantly surprised with The Hanging Tree, I've listened to it a few times.

I still don't get the action thing... Honestly never saw the books or the movies as action oriented.

Then you need to go back and rewatch the first two films because there was plenty of action once Katnis gets into the arena and I'm not just talking about fighting but all the tricks and creatures of the arena as well. Those things aren't present in MockingJay p1 and without it the film lacks excitement to balance its dark dreary tone.

I've seen them both plenty of times.

I saw it yesterday. I thought it was a really good Part 1. I liked that it wasn't intense intense intense like CF, I enjoyed the change of pace with little bursts of action. And that dam scene...My God.

Anyway, good setup that gives us a bit of a breather before the most likely, very exciting finale in Part 2. Just wish we didn't have to wait a whole year!

Just got back a few hours ago. Loved it as much as I figured I would.

I hope the blu-ray/dvd has an uncut, un-edited version of Finnick's speech about Snow. That s*** was chilling, I kind of wanted to watch it more than the rescue mission, tbh. :o

I'm not sure if it was knowing that this was just going to be build up for the final movie, but I came away from it feeling a bit meh about it. They found stuff to flesh out the story enough for the running time, but it's pretty clearly just a longer film chopped in half. Some of the dialogue was weirdly self-conscious as well, all this talk about making the Mockingjay a symbol to inspire people seems more like telling than showing.

It's not bad by any means, and Part 2 will probably boost it once they tie together, but I still feel this was an unnecessary way to go about it and done for the money which is a real shame since the first movie became a hit by just being good.

Deadline - Hardly A Cash Grab: ‘Mockingjay’ Beats ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ As Highest Grossing Film Of 2014

It’s official: Katniss just kicked Guardians Of The Galaxy‘s butt. Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 hit $333.18M yesterday, seizing the title as the highest-grossing film of 2014 away from the Marvel/Disney comic book film which has amassed $333.17M at the domestic box office. Further bolstering Mockingjay‘s title is that its bread wasn’t propped up by 3D or IMAX ticket pricing, which was the case with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire ($424.7M) (however, sources say that Mockingjay – Part 1 did play approximately 350 non-IMAX brand large format venues where it grossed $10M).

This is all deja vu. Last January, Katniss overtook another Marvel superhero title, Iron Man 3, as 2013’s highest grossing film. In its seventh week, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire clicked past Iron Man 3‘s $409M, before finaling its cume at $424.7M. But the records don’t stop there: This is the first time in box office history that two films in a franchise ranked as the No. 1 titles at the domestic B.O. for two years in a row — no other Harry Potter, Twilight or Lord Of The Rings has ever done so. Not to mention, it’s the first time that a studio has had back-to-back annual No. 1 titles in decades (since box office charts began publishing in 1982, there haven’t been any studios logging back-to-back annual No. 1 hits). Also, it’s an anomaly that the No. 1 grossing film two years in a row features a female lead.

Probably the right thing to do financially, but how does its success make it hardly a cash grab?

they're poking at the Pt 1 and 2 thing

i hate lines like this :eyeroll:

Willing to bet money Lionsgate will make Part 2 a regular 3D release. Gotta squeeze the money from eager fans. If they did it for Insurgent, there's no reason why they can't do it here.

is TheWrap going full ****** ?

its crazy that she goes almost nude for money after what happened in 2014. but still...... is thewrap crazy?

Just saw this today for the first time and it's one of the most frustrating things I saw from 2014. This one is really frustrating. Well directed, well acted (apart from Liam Hemsworth aka the plank of wood with a face drawn on it), great cinematography, some great scenes, etc... but it's only half of a movie.

Which makes it twice as much as we deserve. :o

That's my problem with Hollywood that take a good movie and churn out sequel and prequels until the quality goes down. Then they move on to the next thing movie franchise and do the same thing. I think after Mockingjay Part 2 they should just leave it be. Don't ruin the hunger games franchise with mediocre sequels and prequels that will most likely be retreads of the previous movies. Just stop please.

It would be a cash grab, sure. No sequel is necessary. However, I'd watch the hell out of a prequel focusing on young Haymitch and his Hunger Games. Maybe there was a reason why they didn't include that scene of Katniss watching the footage from his victory in Catching Fire.

like i said above, that's the only prequel i would want. his was the 50th, there were 48 people in the arena instead of 24. there's a great fanmade video on youtube someone made of his games.
