Love Rabe's performance in Asylum, casting has been a killer so far.

Broadway’s Patina Miller Joins ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay 1 & 2′

Patina Miller has been cast as Commander Paylor in Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2. The Broadway actress/singer and All My Children alum makes her film debut in the YA sequel as the rebel commander Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) first meets in District 8. Miller starred in Sister Act on Broadway and the West End and won the Tony this year for Pippin. Miller is repped by The Katz Company and UTA.

You know what's funny, I went back and looked over some debates before the first movie came out. A lot of people thought that Lawrence was a terrible choice for Katniss, oops.

Most would not have been doubting her if they had bothered to watch the IMHO excellent Winter's Bone. Katniss Everdeen is a close cousin of Ree Dolly.

Only thing I was wondering is how she would look with dark hair.

when people talk about hating the casting in any film, that's one of the ones that i always think of, akin to ledger, duncan as kingpin etc

Holy ****, Patina Miller.

I actually went back and read The Hunger Games thread because of loki's post and yikes. I remembered it but re-reading the opposition was eye opening. She's too old, has fair skin, is too blond were some of the thoughts. Most of it was appearance related. As we know people in charge of casting films rightfully care more about performance than appearance.

It's a hindsight is 20/20 thing of course and there is nothing wrong with not being automatically onboard for a choice but it's still interesting to look back on considering that the vast majority of people who saw the film liked her in the role.

At this point I think it's safer and smarter to just give the damn actor a shot even if you kinda hate their casting. That's what I'm trying to do.

One of the most comical things I find about opposition to someone's casting as a character is the most dumbest. Their hair color. Like someone's hair can't be dyed to fit the role. Or they can't wear a wig, toupee or some other hair piece.

Now when it comes to skin color or ethnicity, that's a case-by-case basis. If someone is explicitly said to be one thing (black instead of white for instance), then you cast another race/ethnicity, that's more reasonable to object to. But shades of skin color (not tan enough?) are less a concern than if you cast someone of a completely different ethnicity for a role.

If their skin tone (as opposed to race) is minor or unimportant to the story, who cares?

Yeah, its not like she could dye her hair, get a tan, and go on a diet if Katniss is on the thin side, right?

I'm at the point that even when I think the casting is terrible (Paul Giamatti as Rhino) I try to not even express that because they may be doing something with the character that makes it work.

Gah, none of those things are possible. No actor has ever changed their look for a film before. Duh. :o

I just finished Marathoning the first season of American Horror Story. Rabe was creepy and good. Seems like a nice addition to me.

Mahershala Ali is Boggs...

i like it. i know him by face, not by name, but he seems pretty solid

He was on that USA show, The 4400. Only thing I really know him from.

Back when he went by "Mahershalalhashbaz Ali".

I barely recognize Julianne Moore with that gray wig.

Wes Chatham and Elden Henson have joined the cast of Lionsgate’s “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.”

Chatham and Henson will appear in both of the final films of the franchise that stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson. Francis Lawrence is attached to direct. It was recently announced that Julianne Moore would be joining the cast as well.

Chatham will play Castor and Henson will play Pollux.

The third and forth installments of the franchise are due to be released November 2014 and 2015, respectively. The second film, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” debuts in theaters worldwide on Nov. 22.

Chatham, who is repped by Gersh, has credits that include “The Help” and “W.” Henson was most recently seen in Open Road’s “Jobs.” He is repped by Talent Works and Generate.

Cool to see Moore as Coin, with the grey hair and all! She will be great me thinks.

I'm a bit disappointed they're shooting the final two films digitally -- it'll save costs and add flexibility. But I like that slightly grainy, filmic look of the first two pics.

At least they're shooting with a great camera. They couldn't have picked a better one than the Arri Alexa XT.
