Mirror Mirror's trailers look far worse than mediocre, imo.

Though "mediocre" perfectly describes JC's trailers. The reviews suggest it may be slightly above-average though, which is good enough to tide me over 'til the real blockbusters start rolling in. But I hope The Hunger Games is better, since it'll most certainly be making more bank.

I saw John Carter's trailer and it looks underwhelming. There's alot of spectacles in the trailer, but for some reason it lacks excitement. Perhaps they need another trailer to sell the movie to me, but both JC and Mirror Mirror just have mediocre trailers. Perhaps it is a reflection of their movies.

John Carter
has actually been getting some pretty positive reviews.

Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) has already completed the first draft of Catching Fire, which he delivered to Suzanne Collins.

Lionsgate really wants to get the franchise up and running, especially with the robust advance ticket sales on Fandango. Maybe they should greenlight both Catching Fire and Mockingjay if the first film is big enough... cut down on costs by shooting both films together?

I think it looks amazing and IGN's review was very favorable. Too each his own.
I don't like IGN's reviews.

BTW: I'm not saying that THG's is going to be great, I'm just saying that the marketing for it has been solid and better than the other big film that's coming out this month.

i'm looking forward to, but also dreading the Rue scene

the cornucopia could be very interesting

see when it comes to the rue scene i'm also worried but not for the reason most people are. people are scared they are gonna eff upp their favorite moment in the book but i actually think the rue scene is overrated and the only time in the book i felt it tried too hard and got too much. with a movie it's an even bigger risk to overdo things so i hope they toned it down a bit, i think it will be way more effective that way. it's still a great moment and i especially love the district 12 sign katniss does.

Definitely agree with the second part if your post. The Marketing has been far Superior for THG.

I also got a copy of this Friday's EW a few days ago, highlighting The Hunger Games. Seems like Lionsgate is further in pre-production on Catching Fire than I thought, since it's reported Gary Ross will return to direct the film -- which begins production this September.

here's the reason i hope its done really well

rue is the same age as prim so it parallels katniss and prim's relationship in a way. seeing someone so young killed in the games shows the audience no one is safe. this event results in katniss killing her first person ever and that changes her. this even also paves the way for things down the road, the singing, the call, the unity of the districts etc.
it even saves her life when thresh finds her.
its a tiny nuance, but i i remembered peeta explaining how bread from the different districts has different ingredients and such, and when rue's district sends them a gift of bread as a token of respect, the significance is big!

I got that issue as well. I believe Jennifer Lawrence also said she's supposed to start training for the next film in July.

Yeah but Disney has absolutely no faith in it. I think it's going to open better than that 25mil number that's being tossed around though. I'm thinking 35 to 45mil and not a 250mil finish. Which means it's not going to make back that budget domestically.

since JC is in this thread. are people even aware what HG will do to JC at the BO? it will destroy it in pieaces.

The only correlation those two franchises have are Summit Entertainment and a love story.

Is Plutarch at all in the first film? I know he is at the table when Katniss shoots the arrow in the first book, but I don think they even mention him by name. If he has no already been cast, I am standing firm behind Oliver Platt.

Totally agree with this analysis. You get it. The scene is crucial in the book and I really hope they nail it.

2012 will be a very good year for Lionsgate. First The Hunger Games will turn into that franchise LG was hoping for, then the final Twilight eight months after that. The latter will still be released under the Summit label, but Lionsgate will reap the benefits nonetheless.

I do think HG has more crossover appeal, and its domestic cume will be higher than the first Twilight movie.

he would be good. for some reason i always pictured this guy, Joel McCrary as Plutarch
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0566906/

i think it's his role in the Princess Diaries that makes me think of him this way

Not sure why exactly, but I kept picturing Stephen Fry in my head as Plutarch when reading the books.

I'm liking Kravitz as Cinna. Cinna was always one of my favorites from the book. I can't get over how phenomenal of a cast this movie has

yeah i agree with it's importance and i do love alot with the scene. but i just think it got too much with the song and the flowers, a bit more subdued would have made the moment even more poignant imo.

The clip is good, but they crossed the axis. Why did they cross the axis?

Whoa, Lawrence is absolutely fantastic in that clip. Really captured the obstinate and sulky part of Katniss. Love that she is so toned down in her looks too, will really make the parade and show scenes more striking.
