I really don't get it at all. They keep showing the same pre games footage. That was the most boring part

they really should make a more tense tv spot or trailer

show some characters hiding behind a tree in fear throwing some weapons at other opponents it is why i liked the original teaser

Also kids these days are made of sterner stuff, what would have bothered one generation doesn't phase another these days. You can get worse than a PG-13 movie on regular standard TV these days not to mention if they stay up late and watch what is on HBO late.

Funny that they can deal with more stuff nowadays but the cartoon industry has become more dumber and not as mature as it was 10+ years ago.

Ever since reading the screenplay, I've been excited about the film - BUT I was just wondering, is anyone else still getting used to the Zoolander type costuming though?

That's the way it was in the book, too.

I figured it was that way in the book. Still I'm not a huge fan of that so far, although the trailer does play better the more you watch it.

so let me see if i get this right. they are 1 month away from the premiere and they wont show the action in a tv spot? WOOOOW.

Like I said before, they want to make the film appear family friendly.

no problem with the way they look no different than some do the people in fifth element looked

Yeah, just wait until the parents and the kids they see it with realized that the "Hunger Games" are games where teenagers tried to kill each other, and not some wild animals.

O yea . It's family friendly alright. If you like seeing kids kill eachother

I dont think it has anything to do with family friendly. I think it has everything to do with not showing anything from the games because thatll help keep the tension up to an all high since you wont be thinking oh thats in the trailer.

That is not how the studios sell their films. They don't care about things like that. Minor and occassionally big spoilers are routinely given away in trailers all the time. It's just how it is. The risk of not showing additional footage is way too high simply because you think someone might be spoiled in some way. The fact is, you can edit any footage to omit what you need. Just because you see someone take an arrow to the back doesn't mean that the film is ruined now. One could make the argument that showing primrose being selected for the games spoiled that specific plot point, but it was still in the trailer nonetheless. Whatever the studio is doing, it's not going to work. If the film makes money it will be on word of mouth and in spite of the marketing.

Variety reports that early tracking for this film could have it make more money than the first Twilight. A lot more boys are interested in seeing this than they were for Twilight, is one of the arguments.

I read in the making of book that all the other studios wanted to make this a violent bloodbath and market the movie based on its violence. Suzanne Collins chose a producer and studio who was willing to focus on the emotional aspect of the story as the main focal point of the story and marketing. Maybe not showing the games is intentional. Once the games begin, it isn't an hour of bloodshed anyway. There's some real drama that happens during that time, too.

Not to mention one of the major plot points and twists in the story they have yet to reveal in any of the trailers or marketing : Peeta's love for Katniss.

You know, I just can't help thinking of a Japanese movie that came out in 2000 called Battle Royale when I see anything about the Hunger Games. It's the exact same premise. Even the Battle Royale book preceded the Hunger Games book.

what i like is that they didnt make a remake. but a movie that is inspired by that japanese movie. this is how hollywood movies should be made.

Zanos I think that the marketing has been pretty good. It could actually be one of the few best sellers series that actually lives up to the box office hype. Only Potter and Twilight previously have.

It could beat the first Twilight for all I know but the rest of them? That's a pretty tall order. Twilight didn't need males to make 296mil for the second film, 302mil for the third film and 280mil for the fourth film. The lack of males has not hurt that series one bit.

As for Hunger Games I'm predicting something like 140mil now but I'll raise it or lower it depending on what I feel when it gets even closer.

What tension? Everyone knows that Jennifer Lawrence isn't going to be killed, but rather other nameless, faceless competitors from the Hunger Games. This isn't the kind of movie where you guess who will bite the dust, like the Japanese original movie that probably inspired it in the first place. Which leads to...

Yeah, I got the same feeling. I saw BR many years ago, and I was shocked by the unpredictability of that movie where every student could end up dead, and it pulled no punches. I know the author of The Hunger Games probably denied it, but the similarities are pretty big between the two properties, and too big to ignore or dismiss.

My problem with Battle Royale was that they just killed of random characters without fletching the characters out . You saying Hunger Games will kill off faceless characters but pretty much every character in Battle Royale was faceless

Yeah, the plots of Hunger Games and Battle Royale are similar, but I don't know that Collins copied the earlier concept. I don't find either story to be terribly original; they're just the Roman gladitorial games starring teens.

Yeah. I also feel the fact that what Hunger Games later develops into in it's sequels is enough to shut out in comparison's that Collins totally ripped off Battle Royale.

what has the sequel to do with Battle Royale?
