gary ross said he wanted pg 13 for the fan base

he did'nt want them to be able to not see a film on a book they love

he did'nt want to neglect the fan base who are not 18 or over

plenty of girls 12-16 read the books

Which is why your effed up rating system needs an overhaul.

Anybody who thought or even wanted this to be R is dumb. The book can get a bit gruesome but not that bad to deserve a R.

This was never going to be an R-rated movie. They'd exclude most of their core demographic from being able to see it in theaters.

Anyone who thought there would ever be an R-rated Hunger Games movie is kidding themselves.

Which is why the US rating system is ****ed, there's no middle ground, you go from 13-17 in your rating systems which is archaic.

Seriously.

If this were an American Battle Royale adaptation and it'd be rated PG-13 then I'd understand but from what I gather The Hunger Games isn't even an inch as violent or adult heavy in material as the original Battle Royale manga is.

It's more about Americans being too chicken to show anything coz 'won't somebody think of the children', oh wait, they've made a movie about kids killing each other. Irony if ever there was.

Yet, the UK edit of the film is seven seconds shorter than the US version so they could keep the 12A rating.

Does the MPAA ratings system need an overhaul? Yes. Honestly, I'm more annoyed that a movie like Bully gets hit with an R-rating than The Hunger Games being some R-rated gorefest. It doesn't actually need to be.

It's not about anyone "being too chicken". It's about selling movie tickets. The core demographic for these books are mostly too young to buy tickets to an R-rated movie, so this was never going to be anything but a PG-13.

So stop being ridiculous and quit the generalizing.

Nor does it need to be. If it was then they went waay overboard with the violence. This has to be one of the most ingenious marketing campaigns in a while. We're a week away and we've seen what 4 seconds of the actual games. Wow, im so excited to see this next week.

Kudos to the marketing team.

I have no idea what to expect. Yet it's fairly obvious going from the review blurbs that it delivered.

Really excited for this. :wow:

Kudos especialy since they stuck to it. The reaction after the first trailer was good but everybody wanted to see the actual games but stuck to their guns and now we as an audience get to experience The Hunger Games as Katniss experiences it.

Hell, there are portions of Harry Potter that are close to R-rated, but that was never gonna fly. Ever.

i'm so excited to see this movie

i got a shirt from tanga.com haha i just might have to get a mockingjay pin

Looking good, may actually check this out opening night.

God, she scares the living hell out of me.

Damn Elizabeth Banks looks creepy.
Still sexy tho....

When that countdown starts in the movie, my heart is going to race out of my chest. Because we haven't seen anything that happens yet so it'll be like running into the Cornucopia myself. Gosh, I love movies.

So I just read the book. Now, I'm really excited to see the movie. Will definitely be picking up the next two novels and completing the series :)

I'm crazy excited for this film now. I'd honestly expected it to get ripped apart by critics as another Twilight but it seems to have been really well received so far.

I agree about the countdown, that was the best part of the trailer and the film better make it just as tense!

Agreed.

One thing I'm looking forward most to is to see the film expand on the book and show things that weren't in the book but still fits the events. Especially since Collins herself has helped writing them, hopefully meaning they will be great in containing the same vibe as the stuff from the book.

This scene is such an example. Love the dialogue and to see Snow and Crane planning the games, something we didn't get in the book. Great acting from Sutherland too! Creepy.
