The Hunger Games

well she lives in district 12, which is the coal mining district and one of, if not the poorest so she's very lean and would look malnourished like many of the people who live there except she illegally hunts and eats/trades/sells what she catches so she's gonna look healthier than a lot of the people there.

she has long dark hair which she generally keeps in her iconic braid. she has olive skin and grey eyes. she's very lean and agile (from hunting), and surprisingly strong for her stature (also due to this)

she has a lot of cuts, scrapes and bruises in the beginning but like all the tributes who are selected for the games, they are "beautified" before the capitol gets to see them, removing these things.

that's all i remember. if anyone else wants to chime in, by all means

Winter's Bone (in which she played a high schooler) sealed the deal for Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss for me. I read the books right after I heard she was cast, and she was just perfect. The characters are very similar.

I completely agree.

I think she looks better as a blonde.

what does her fathers jacket look like?

All the hunting gear, she inherited from her father. The jacket is supposed to be a little too big for her, oversized. It was mentioned in the story because it was one of her only remaining connections to him. It's a small thing but small things add up.

you wan an archer to wear an over sized coat LOLOL

she would look like Hallie steinfeld in true grit lol

some things need to have liberties taken

Plenty of liberties being taken with this story already. Maybe with oversized clothing it would help Katniss look closer to 16 (her age in the book) rather than 22.

Steinfeld was actually my preferred choice for this role.

I want them to attempt a faithful adaptation of an excellent book rather than crank out another Twilight.

Lawrence can very convincingly play a Hollywood teenager in her sleep. She was nominated for a freakin Oscar for playing one. Screw the Oscar's opinion though, she was fantastic in Winter's Bone, with or without an Oscar nom.

This silly little movie is lucky to have her, just like they would have been lucky to get the amazing Hallie Steinfeld.

You have no idea if this movie is going to be exactly like Twilight (hopefully it's much better and I enjoy Twilight) just because they are using similar advertising tactics and casting tactics to a degree. The truth is this movie has a 100 million dollar budget, Lions Gate would be stupid if they didn't copy Twilight's marketing plan but despite all of the *****ing about that series, Summit's marketing plan worked perfectly. Twilight is a billion dollar franchise. They should copy it every step of the way but of course add their own little spin because it's not Twilight.

i vaguely remember that, i was afraid i'd forgotten it was supposed to look a particular way or have a particular design.

it's possible it could be from the arena too since it looks like quality materials (bows/arrow/hand glove thingy)

Steinfeld is a fine young actress, but between her and Lawrence I'll definitely take Lawrence for the female lead in The Hunger Games. Lawrence can play a teenager convincingly, in fact she already did in Winter's Bone. I think the love triangle in this series would've been a bit awkward with Steinfeld as well, because she is not only young, but she also looks very young. Lawrence is young but old enough to play a character with relationships on the big screen.

She looks great but that is a weird way to hold an arrow in your bow. You would think cradling it in between your fingers would screw up the shot because you're going to be hitting the fletching as it passes by. Nonetheless its awesome and I can't wait for the trailer.

The trailer is coming out on Monday apparently. Good Morning America will premier it.

Good to hear. I haven't read the books but I have hopes for this one.

Snow White and the Huntsman and The Hunger Games with Twilight? Money, money, money lol.

As much as I hate Twilight that's probably the best Movie to put the Trailer on.

I think we've already seen the gear from the games and the look was more modern than what she has going on here.

I love Jennifer Lawrence and think she is an amazing talent. Winter's Bone was great. However, the whole point of the Hunger Games is that they are just kids. An awkward love triangle would hit the mark exactly.

As great as JL is, she looks like an adult in all the advertising I've seen to date. By casting adults I fear they are losing a central theme in the story. IMO casting younger would have been more true to the spirit of the story because the story is about the horrible things these children are forced to do. It seems like the filmmakers are casting older to avoid the controversy of child on child violence in addition to appealing to the Twilight crowd by having such a pretty cast of young adults. I hope this is not the case and that their adaptation captures the gravity of the book. However, the images I have seen so far have failed to resonate on a primal level with me. They have JL looking like a catelog model and not a gritty survivor.

And they also tend to cast teenagers older because when they're under 18, they still fall under child labor laws and it makes the shooting schedule more difficult.

Steinfeld's terrific...but she's 14. Wasn't Katniss 16 in the first book?

Labor laws and experience. They feel a (whatever age JL is) would have more acting chomps than a 14 years old.
