The Hunger Games

Gotta start somewhere. I think he could pull it off if the writing is there.

i dont doubt reilly's acting abilities. but when i see him, i dont think of a man who survived a Hunger Games and became an alcoholic dredge of a person

his body type isn't exactly what i pictured for haymitch either. i dunno

he is a great actor with an oscar nom who did drama long before he did comedy

he would be fantastic

He's actually a really good actor so I'll give him a chance.

Only way I can see him as Haymitch is if he loses about 35 pounds. Then maybe.

35 pounds lol
Haymitch is described as paunchy and middle-aged in The Hunger Games

and does he really look extremely fat anyways?

Reilly is not who I imagined him as Haymitch, but if he's cast I'm willing to give him a benefit of a doubt since he's a good actor.

I never saw Haymitch as fat because everyone in the books is so gaunt that by the time you saw Haymitch he was the most healthy person you see and that is considered fat in this world. Now making him look filthy and Drunk would be appropriate but I just don't think Reilly fits that image to me.

I guess he is not, I just imagine him from Step Brothers and honestly I think he loks a tad pudgy to be Haymitch. I know he would be able to act the role but Haymitch is a pretty dark role if you ask me and it would just be distracting to see someone who I think of as a comedy actor (much of it slapstick) do this role and do it with the proper gravitas. So yeah his body type does kinda irk me but hey I would be willing to give him a chance if the director is.

you know he was a dramatic serious based actor for 15 years and got an oscar nom before he did movies like step brothers right

with roles in :

Gangs Of New York
The Aviator
Magnolia
Boogie Nights
Thin Red Line
The Perfect Storm
Chicago
The Hours

if reilly is cast i'll give it a shot

but he just doesn't have the look or demeanor of a former hunger games winner to me, if that makes sense

Haymitch was 16 in his games, 40 at the time of the novels. People change, especially heavy drinkers.

I love Reily for Haymitch.

good point. i know reilly is a good actor (chicago always comes to mind first), i just want him to physically play the role too. if i think about it i don't really doubt he can play the jaded alcoholic borderline recluse haymitch is. but i wanna see it in his body language, demeanor, etc. so i hope he brings that to the table

I know this and trust me I think he is a great actor, one of the best out there, I just did not imagine him when I read the book. I personally saw Gary Oldman. I know that would never happen but that is who I saw. Reilly just doesn't strike me as Haymitch at first glance.

Isn't that the whole point of his character? His intro in the book, he was vomiting and tripped over the stage.

I don't know if John C. Reilly IS the best for the role, but I support him fully. And some people here need some perspective on the aging process because I know many of people my age (mid to late 20s) who have partied hard and aged hard too. I'm talking about to the point where they look like they're like in they're in their late 30s.

there are rumors of Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, and Lenny Kravitz  getting offered roles in The Hunger Games, but I haven't heard which roles yet

Tucci as Cinna was one of my dream casts I believe

Kravitz looks like he could live in the Capital lol

You know I never thought of Woody HArleson as Haymitch. He'd be good

I know Reily is being talked about htough

I heard Harrelson was up for Crane.
Also I read that Kristen Bell is lobbying hard for the part of Johanna, though she's only mentioned in the first novel if I'm not mistaken.
