anyone else love that jen is not made up in this trailer well until they force her to be made up lol

her hair is a mess and has zero make up on helps with the whole dystopian atmosphere always hate when a girl is in a Apocalypse type movies and she still has make up and perfectly styled hair
i agree with this.

It's funny it looks almost exactly like I thought it would be and yet I found it very 'meh'. Does look very book accurate I must say.

It was everything I expected with exception of action scenes against other characters and not dummies. But the beginning made up for it. I'm hoping that the reason it doesn't have that much action scenes is because it is going to be shown with Twilight. It seems like a logical reason.

Really didnt find this trailer to represent the movie that well. I mean they didnt show the games at all. It felt like another teaser.

it represented it quite well i thought it showcased the charatcers and the story very well

They are obviously saving the action scenes for another trailer to be revealed later.

yeah that annoying kid...

he wont be

Josh Hutcherson isn't that bad at all.

His voice performance as Markl was great in Howl's Moving Castle.

In fact both him and JL were the best parts of this trailer. Hemsworth Jr is as dry as a plank of wood but everything featuring Hutcherson in this trailer just felt natural.

I thought Liam Hemsworth was quite charismatic in this trailer, and had good chemistry with Lawrence in that couple of scenes they were in. I'd have to watch Hutcherson more before judging him, but he just seems dull when compared to Hemsworth.

will there be action?

because this was 100% build up and no money shots.i dont remember the last time a studio was that dumb.

i think i will watch the movie only for the concept(kids fighting) and Jennifer. visuals look boring and i dont know if there is any action

There will be action just calm down. They just didn't show it here. This is going to be a Drama first and an Action flick second.

the 60 second summer teaser had more action. do you understand what i wrotte here? a 60 second summer teaser had more action then a 2 minute full trailer .

Really? Like really? You just said that?

I hope they change parts of the ending.

I didn't like the whole werewolf/zombie/participant type creatures towards the end, I was hoping for just a final confrontation between Katniss and Cato. The author went too complicated with it and it ended up just taking me out of the experience. Obviously you gotta keep the faking the deaths and what not, that was all great. I just want a different final confrontation.

I disagree, its the idea that the Capitol will go to any length just to crush someones soul/hope. The creations are very much pivotal to the whole story I think seeing as the Mockingjay is one of them and is used a symbol for the whole series. I understand what your saying but I disagree.

He was fantastic in Bridge to Terebithia as well, he really made me feel for his character.

I thought the trailer was pretty good. Banks looked great as Effie! I was sad we only got a glimpse of Hamish. I did like how it built up to the games but didn't give too much. I hate when trailers blow the whole wad.

District 12 looked a little clean maybe a little too sterile. I pictured coal dust and grimy faces. Otherwise the lottery looked alright.

Too little to tell if they got the characters right but JL looks like she will give a strong performance as always.

[BLACKOUT]Madge not giving Katniss the Mockingjay pin is a little annoying but we'll see how it comes off in the film.[/BLACKOUT] Still cautiously optimistic but it was a step in the right direction,

sorry not sure which trailer you watched but hemsworth looked great tons of personality and emotion showed in this trailer and a good american accent to boot

hemswroth came across better than hutcherson imo and he naturally felt like jen's close friend even in a 2 minute trailer

Eh, I liked JL and Hutcherson better. Lil Hemsworth still seems bland to me.

Ahhhh a place to discuss this fine trailer.

The other good spot is the AV Club comments section on their trailer article.

I thought this trailer was great.
Highlights:
1. Wes Bentley's amazing evil beard:
Picture24-1.png

2. The reaping! Elizabeth Banks has evil claws! Kids lined up like cattle! Screaming desperate Katniss! Peeta looking stricken! So worthwhile.

3. The editing at the end of the trailer during the countdown. Cut to Prim in a dark room not watching Katniss about to battle to the death. Cut to Gale in a far removed field not watching Katniss about to battle to the death. Cut to District 12 folks watching. This was TIGHT. I was practically experiencing heart failure during this scene.

4. Stanley Tucci has blue hair! He looked rad.

5. The fear and panic on her way to the arena and in the cylinder was palpable. Can't wait to see this in the movie.

6. The look of the sets. I mean people have been complaining that District 12 doesn't look grim enough, but in reality, I think the problem they really have is that they secretly feel that the sun isn't supposed to shine in a dystopian future. All District 12 scenes were in the sunshine.

I guess that one CG shot of the capitol could use some work. That slanting light effect is over used, reminds of the shiny buildings in Batman Begins... the sun glinting doesn't look cool, folks. It makes it look like CG people are showing off in the worst way possible.

Hush I see what you're saying and that makes sense, I guess I never thought of it like that which makes me like the ending a bit more. I'm glad they didn't show any of the games. Honestly there isn't that much action during the games, The whole time during the games its incredibly tension filled but there isn't that much action and when there is, its in short bursts. There really isn't too much you can or should show in a trailer.

meh i liked him he was very charismatic and charming in the trailer to me and felt like a true friend to katniss in the trailer

dont seem bland at all but just my opinion

I should add that one thing I'm desperately looking forward to about a movie adaptation is that you are not relying solely on the one protagonists perspective on things. Take the cut in shots at the end of the trailer. We will get to see audience reactions to what is going on... in the spirit of the Truman Show but without that sort of bubbly charm. I thought that shot of Gale in the field was especially powerful at the end. How do people deal with something like this-- a televised battle to the death? That's what I want to see.

The whole televised thing reminds me of The Running Man.

I always thought that Hutcherson was a solid kid actor.

Same here.

Can't say I share the same feelings. Personality and charisma aren't words I'd associate with Hemsworth Jr. His brother on the other hand absolutely, but just like you guys that's just my humble opinion. I essentially feel the same way about Jr the way you guys feel about Hutcherson.

He was fantastic in Bridge to Terebithia as well, he really made me feel for his character.

Yeah he was really good in that movie as well too. One can easily emphasize with his performances. His acting always feels natural to me.

I'm with you on that completely.

Liam is quite similar to his brother Chris in terms of looks and charisma, albeit younger, so I don't see why you think these two brothers are so different. But hey, at least there's no consensus on who's better so we'll just have to wait and see when the movie comes out.

I think there are a lot of comparisons that can be drawn. It's hard to come up with an idea independently these days that hasn't been done in some way or another. Stephen King's review of the Hunger Games described its similarities to Battle Royale and The Long Walk, but also said that it holds its own.

From what I understand (take this with a grain of salt, I haven't read or seen Battle Royale), the Hunger Games is a bit more story driven than violence driven than Battle Royale. There's a lot more social/political commentary. There's also the emotional lines. The AV Club commenters had a lot of interesting things to say about it and many of them had seen all of the aforementioned films and read the books.

In terms of overall experiences and performances Huctherson has him beat. Just compare their filmography in terms of amount of work and how each of their respective performances have been received.

That definitely seems to be the case. I like Battle Royale a lot but the Hunger Games seems far more character driven that BR thats for sure.

I haven't seen any proof that lil Hemsworth is as charismatic as he brother and I'm shocked that someone would claim that. Granted I'm only going off of little clips.

I flat think that Thor is mediocre as hell picture but Hemsworth's performance and raw charisma gave me goosebumps. He was that good in Thor. Hell, he was even excellent in his bit role as Kirk father in Star Trek.

Point to a film where lil Hemsworth shows that kind of star making charisma? Was it in that Miley Cyrus movie?
