The Hurt Locker

It was definitely "edge of your seat", especially given the cameos of familiar faces going bye-bye like they did.

Wow, I thought I recognized some of those cameos, but wasn't sure. I rented this movie the day it came out and I really enjoyed it. I watched it with my mom and it was kind of funny because after the first explosion, she was getting anxious every time they dealt with a bomb.

Loved this film. Probably second or third favourite of last year.

The first mission with James was so heart pounding. When he finds the first IED, then follows the wire and it reveals about 5 others and the score builds. The sound of the music as he pulls them all up was perfect, like your stomach dropping or heart stopping, matched up to it perfectly.

People are talking about all the other awards it could get nominated for but I haven't really seen many people mention the score. It just brilliantly adds to the tension.

I finally saw this over the weekend. Great film. It hit a little too close to home, since one of my sister's friends is going through something similar to what Renner's character's wife dealt with, but I thought it was really well done.

Still hoping this one gets the edge over Avatar at the Oscars.

Same here. I give this film a 93% I was blown away by it. I saw it a while back, then bought it on Blu-ray and loved it a little more.

Truly a gripping, suspenseful film, that hits home in many ways.

I think both Bigelow and the film were robbed at the GG's. Avatar may have been more spectacular CGI wise, but the Hurt Locker had one of the most tightly woven and deftly handled plots of a film this year. The acting was fantastic too.

Haha

[BLACKOUT]I was watching it with my gf and she recognized Guy Pierce....she said something like "I hope he doesn't die" when he's walking up to the bomb. My response was "no chance...we're like 5 minutes in".[/BLACKOUT]

:awesome:

Big win last night that helps The Hurt Locker's Oscars chances. Can't wait for all the Avatards to freak out when THL wins Best Director or Picture or both.

First Female Film Director Wins DGA: Award To 'Hurt Locker's Kathryn Bigelow

By Nikki Finke | Category: Uncategorized | Saturday January 30, 2010 @ 11:57pm

Women ruled at the DGA tonight for top honors in both film and TV drama direction. The DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film has traditionally been one of the Industry's most accurate barometers for the Best Director Academy Award. Only 6 times since the DGA Awards began in 1948 has the Feature Film winner not gone on to win the Oscar. But tonight's honor for The Hurt Locker's helmer Kathryn Bigelow is the first DGA win not just for her but the first for any female film director. dgaHer team on the 2009 Summit Entertainment consisted of Unit Production Manager Tony Mark, First Assistant Director David Ticotin, and First Assistant Director (Canadian Unit) Lee Cleary. Bigelow beat out Precious' Lee Daniels, Up In The Air's Jason Reitman, Inglourious Basterds' Quentin Tarantino, and, most surprising of all, her ex, Avatar's James Cameron. Bigelow, who was only the 7th female to be nominated for the DGA award, was quoted as saying, "This is the most incredible moment of my life."

The Hurt Locker has only lost at the Golden Globes, which is voted on by a bunch of weird Europeans bought off by studios.

It wasn't nominated for the National Film Board but it has picked up 7 Best Picture awards and 7 Best Director awards. All that's left is the Oscars.

And people think Bigelow wouldn't be a good director for The Avengers...

Well Hurt Locker isn't really anything like what Avengers should be. But i wouldn't mind at all if she did it. I want Spielberg or Scott for Avengers though.

Better than a majority of who people want, IMO.

Spielberg would be a goddamn God-send if he directed Cap, not The Avengers. IMO.

Cap is basically just a "Saving Private Ryan" + A Superhero.

Spielberg for the Avengers...I don't really know, I'd say if Favreau, Literrier and, Branagh were in complete control of Iron Man, Hulk and Thor or at least gave their delicious ideas for the characters they created, I'd be all for it. Literrier is a Marvel fanboy and loves his Hulk, Favreau is dedicated to Iron Man and would never allow him to be used in a terrible way. Branagh seems very passionate about Thor too.

Just saw this on DVD. FAR better than Avatar. Not even close.

I had no idea Cameron was her Ex-Husband, that's pretty hilarious.

:funny: it was pretty awkward to see them in the "round table" interview.

I was surprised at the lack of awkwardness in that "round table" interview, actually. They seem to have a friendlier rapport than I would have expected.

Anyway, I'm extremely glad to see her win the DGA award, and I've got my fingers crossed that these wins lead to the Oscar. I can't think of a better candidate to become the first woman to win.

Although that would be pretty damn cool, I could have sworn I read that Spielberg was saying he's done making films involving WWII or Nazi's after doing "Schindler's List" and "Saving Private Ryan".

Would be nice though. Then again, him knowing it's a comic character that has to appeal to the general audience he might try to throw in some godawful kid, that just happens to survive something ridiculous. :hehe:

Here's hoping it gets nominated for an Oscar. I'll be disappointed if it gets passed over.

I liked Hurt Locker, Tears Of The Sun and We Were Soldiers. The only 3 war like films i ever liked.

Jim seems pretty supportive of Katherine, didn't he thank her at the Golden Globes?

He said she was more fit for the win, something like that yeah.
