The Hurt Locker

Solid film in all areas. Drew me in very early & the atmosphere feels authentic throughout. Congrats to Kathryn Bigelow! She certainly deserves some recognition for this.

Jim seems pretty supportive of Katherine, didn't he thank her at the Golden Globes?

Jim said on Jay Leno that he and Katherine are still good friends and that he saw this movie when it was still in the editing stages. He also says that she watched Avatar when it too was in the editing stages.

I bet they then went to the bedroom.

When it was in the editing stages.

Hi, I have made a system, to help me give a honest and strait rating to a movie, so I’m rating all the movies I have seen with it. Let’s see what we have here:

Acting: 8/10
Script: 7.5/10
Directing: 10/10
Visual stile (Art, costumes, cinematography, etc): 8.5/10
Music: 3/10

Overall: 7.4/10

Ok. I finally saw this movie and I'm wondering where is the love for Anthony Mackie? He was just as good as Renner in this film.

Just heard on the news that this won Best Picture and Bigelow won Best Director at the British Film Awards.

Loved this film. Only took 9 months to reach my local cinemas.

watched this last night and i really loved it, great cinematography and some great acting in it :D

I unfortunately started watching this around 3 a.m. with the boyfriend, so I kept dozing off :O But, the parts I saw were really interesting, so I plan on starting this movie over and rewatching the whole thing :oldrazz:

From most of what I gather, they actually have a pretty good relationship, for ex's. Not like the venom-tipped arrows you get asking Linda Hamilton about Jim.

Saw this movie last night and I thought it was really well done. From the list of movies nominated for Best Picture, this one definitely deserves the Oscar. That said, 2009 has been a pretty lackluster year for movies.

I just saw it on DVD. I wouldn't mind if it won Best Picture (anything but Avaturd) but I'm not sure if it's really the best film of the year, even out of the other nominees.

i really liked this movie and I would not be dissapointed one bit if it won best picture, but i don't know if it would be THE film i would vote for if needed.

I really don't get it,what is so good about this movie? It still comes off as another generic frack yeah American movie with nothing no one hasn't seen before. Nauseating and pretentious garbage, the rest of the world got tired of the frack yeah America attitude along time ago. Can someone tell me why this is that damn good? I don't want to actually see it but I would like to know why this movie has the right amount of redeeming qualities.

Well, in order to have a competent discussion you need to actually see it.

Yeah seeing it would make an opinion worth considering.

How about the theme is anything but "frack yeah America". In fact, it's pretty apolitical. Like Black Hawk Down. The theme, spelled out, is "war is a drug".

Saw the film tonight and thought it was fantastic, It takes a look at perhaps the most stressful job in the world, in a section of the military never really explored to this depth before.

There are several superbly crafted and edited action sequences, but oddly enough despite the movies focus being bomb disposal, I found the sniper battle sequence the most intense and riveting.

Jeremy Renner makes himself a star with his portrayal of Will James and for me he is the number 1 pick for the Oscar this Sunday, however Anthony Mackie also deserves strong plaudits for his performance as Sandborn, an earnest and professional solider who just wants to make it home in one piece.

Unlike most war movies set in Iraq there is no political axe to grind or flag waving going on here, it's a look into the dangerous world of a US bomb disposal team in the middle of a warzone, and more acutely a character drama that focuses it's main attention on Renner's character who is wired hotter than the bombs he disarms.

The most interesting thing about Renner's character Will James, is that he is essentially the classic maverick hero from dozens of US action movies, only here it shows what it would be like having that kind of cowboy in real battle, Will is both reckless and irresponsible and it almost leads to the death of one of his men which is neither cool nor exciting, and by the end of the film his adrenaline addicted war hero comes off as much of a sad figure as any other kind of addict, leaving behind his wife and kid to go and risk being blown up in the middle of someone else's urban jungle for the sake of another fix.

9/10

^^I thought Anthony Mackie was quite impressive as well. This was probably my favorite film of the year.

Dynamite picture. Something I found interesting about it was the two main characters. Renner and Mackie reminded me of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover's characters from the Lethal Weapon series. Same character dynamic where Renner is, essentially, Riggs, the reckless wild card whose great at his job, but could give less than a s*** if he sees tomorrow and Mackie is Murtaugh, the straight-laced partner who wants to live long enough to, at least, see retirement. Great script, direction, the whole package.

-so sayeth the mastermind-
