I have a parrot.

They are not the most recommended of pets, they make a lot of noise, and live as long as you do, therefore being a longterm commitment.

They are not as friendly as you think, and will take years to get to the level of affection of other pets.

You would be better off with a parrakeet, they don't live as long and are less expensive, and would let you see if they are the right kind of animal for you.

Simba.

Actually, owning a parrot is vastly different from owning a parakeet (aside from the housing and noise factors the two share). Parrots are so smart and emotional that owning one is more akin to having a child. Parakeets tend to be terribly inbred and thus suffer from acute stupidity. They're also much messier than the larger birds.

They always have those huge birds in pet stores, and I feel like I should be carrying a bat or something for protection. Huge ****ers.:csad:

Tell me about it. I worked in a pet store for two years and I have a slight phobia of larger birds.

This one cockatoo freaked me out, I'd never go near it. Everytime it saw me, it's jump to the front of the cage, and start letting out this low squawk-like growling sound. It was EVIL.

Arribed yesterday, Filli, a baby tinny shnauser.

I lurb her.
