I Hate Zoos!

If I was a dog I'd rather be hit by a car or eaten by deers than forced upon a family.

Maybe you should come back when you have received something resembling an education and have the faintest idea what you're talking about.

Is that "talking smack" enough for you?

I agreed with your point about zoos, but the part about domestic cats and dogs is just ridiculous.

I've never seen so many concerned about an animal's supposed "happiness".

I seriously doubt they care, just as long as they're fed.

You seriously think a bear or a lion or a whale, an intelligent animal that in the wild roams vast territories, is content living its entire life in a tiny enclosure?

You really think endlessly pacing back and forth is a sign of contentment?

My sister lived in a house for a summer with a free-roaming 6-foot boa constrictor, because its owners didn't believe in caging it. You'd only know where the snake was when it knocked over something.

You belong in San Francisco. :awesome:

Dogs and cats and long-domesticated animals are much happier with humans. We feed them and stuff, and bred the wildness out of them. Oops. :oldrazz:

But yeah, watching a big cat pacing back and forth in its cage is just sad. My mom works at a tiny city zoo where they have a cougar. He's not very big (in terms of big cats) and he's the only one there and he was raised by humans, so he's quite content playing hide and seek with everybody. (The humans are outside, he's inside. :oldrazz: ) He seems happy. But he does get a lot of room by himself and he was raised by humans, so he knows nothing else.

Slossy, when I want your opinion, I'll beat it out of you. :cmad:

:cwink:

I'm going to a zoo next week just to piss off last son.

This has nothing to do with zoos, but man, let's talk about rabbits. Pet rabbits have the s***tiest lives. It's like us living in a 8x12 prison cell.

Yeah but the rabbits brought it on themselves. You can't trust those fluffy little bastards.

I like zoos, heck I got married at a zoo. However, it was one that gave/gives the animals a lot of room. It also does a lot of education stuff, my wife interned there one summer, learning about the birds.

I also of fan of domestic pets, we got a dog from a rescue. The people found her as a very young puppy, like 5-6 weeks old wandering the streets with her brother. She probably wouldn't have lasted very long without us. We've given her a very loving enviroment and do our best to make sure she's happy, like I'm sure the great majority of dog and cat owners do.

If it wasn't for those cages, there'd be millions more of those things, all over the place. :o

That's why we should all take care not to increase the rabbit population, by always wearing condoms when having sex with them.

I think its immoral and wrong to enslave and trap an animal, outside of its natural habitat. Don't give me the animal lives longer jive, I don't want to hear it. As much as I love sharks I will not lower myself to going to a zoo. I hate going to pet stores and seeing animals in cages so small they can barely turn around. I hate that humans own, dogs and animals as pets. My mother has a dog so I go get dog food for him. I would never put a leash on an animal or trap them into bring my friend so I will never have a pet. Humans just have to have power don't they?

You, my friend have watched way to many PETA videos.

Caged animals I agree, but a place like Busch Gardens those animals live like kings. However big an animal is there should be requirements on how much space they should have.

Release all animals from zoos and let them live! This is crap!

I don't like when small city zoos (Akron) try to copy big city zoos (Atlanta) and want you to follow a path through them that usually ends with you having to exit through the gift shop.

I still love going to zoos.

I agree with Immortalfire on this.

As long as their well fed and have better care and protection in captivity then the dangers of the wild i'd say that they're A-ok being in a Zoo.

Besides if i was a wild animal i'd prefer captivity over getting eaten by a lion any day of the week.

Plus people get to see how awesome i am on a daily basis. :awesome:

Most of these spaces are so small it's unbelievable this is allowed.

Oh God, this is up again.
You should work in a zoo, last son, then tell us if you still think the way you do.
Just don't try to free any of the animals, you won't be able to return any of them to the wild, and if you do find a way, they won't remember how to survive after years of being caged.

Read the Life Of Pi. The main character's zoologist father has a perspective on zoos that adds a new dimension to this argument.

Sea World knows what it's doing. *cough* Blackfish *cough*

This is got to be the dumbest thing I've read today.

Most of thse animals are raised in captivity, they don't have the survival skill to live in the wild.Release them into the wilderness is just as good as putting a bullet through their head, only less efficient .

Pretty much. Many of which are from species that would be extinct if not for zoos.

Alternatively there are animals that are injured (good luck being a bald eagle in the wild with a broken wing) or can be a hazard to humans and would otherwise be destroyed.

Most zoos have lots of wild animals. They show up for the easy food and then never leave, except maybe to breed.
