The Avengers The "I Believe In Mark Ruffalo!" Support Thread

I loved the Hulk look in both films. Lee's Hulk had this sort of childish look to him, but a pissed off one who could **** you up. Just another one of Lee's choices. I think Hulk having more soft features suggest the parallels to Bruce as a 4 year old boy. What he saw in his nightmares he kept coming back to, which has been part of his manifistation inside him, and that through anger comes out.

Agreed! Speaking of TIH, it's still my favorite Hulk film.

It's my favourite superhero film. :woot:

I guess I would be ok with Mark Raffalo...

I'm just disappointed that Edward Norton is not coming back.

But I may like this dude more... who knows?

It's just when I think about it. When I think of Norton and the continuity, I get bummed, but thinking about Ruffalo and what he can do and what Whedon said, the feeling is alot better.

Maybe Ruffalo will be the best live action Banner of the four. We'll just have to wait and see.

And as far as changing the look goes, I wouldn't mind a redesign but only if they want to make him more Hulk-like, not more Ruffalo-like...

Nah, Krunk should be in it instead. Then he can get a nacho chip stuck in his teeth.

I want a Hulk with more monstrous, neanderthal-like qualities. But that's just me I guess.

Me too. We have not seen the Hulk I wanted to see yet. The first movie he had too much of a human face, was too big and the green was too bright. Second movie, he wasn't strong enough, looked like an emo teen with his haircut. And he came off too much like the Hulk from the tv series. Also second one was growling but he was weaker so that made him even more emo.

He should be around 7 foot, neanderthal-looing, dark green, very short hair and should be a force of nature. Anger and power unleashed. And he cannot be stopped.

As for the debate of Norton or Ruffalo, I prefer Norton as an actor but I didn't like Incredible Hulk much so it doesn't break my heart. Still, I think the guy from District 9 would have been better(especially because I think the director of this movie would kick ass on a Hulk flick).

I don't get it. People either want a neanderthal Hulk or a Hulk that can speak more. Which is which here? I hope people don't mean him saying actual dialoge all the time. I prefer him more silent and saying few words only when he needs to. Not saying stuff all the time. He's more intelligent in what he does.

If you growl but you kick ass like Hulk done many times, that's fine(just watch any Marvel cartoons on DVD that Hulk is in). But if you growl and you're not as strong as you were, it make the character whiney like a emo teenager.

People want Hulk to be Hulk.

Devasting, monstrous. And saying he wants to be left alone.

I was one of the people who wished Ed Norton had stayed as Dr. Banner in the Avengers, and I did blame Feige more or less for who's responsible over this fiasco. HOWEVER, Raffalo is an excellent actor, who has delivered the goods in movies like Shutter Island and Zodiac. Also, as much as I respect Norton, I know that he also has a reputation for being difficult to work with, since he didn't do any promos for TIH even though he did work on the script, and I'm sure this is the primary reason why Marvel decided to cut ties with him. This is all in the past, and I for one will support Raffalo in the Avengers. Continuity must give away to reality in this case.

With 4 years passing between the last time Hulk was on screen thats bound the happen. Comparing the CGI hulks from the other two films the Hulk from TIH looks a lot more detailed than in Ang Lee's Hulk.

Couldnt disagree more with the last statement, IMO the TIH is already looking dated yet the one from Hulk still looks superb, either way, continuity is ****ed with the character now anyway so changing his design wouldnt bother me, hell Marvel should just re-cast the whole movie!

I think Ang's Hulk looks better. Both in design and quality of the CGI.

But anyway...

I'm not a massive fan of Hulk, because to me, he's more a plot device than actual character. And Banner annoys me.

Having said that i must say i was pretty disappointed with Norton's performance. He's one of my favourite actors and i know he could of done better.

But... Mark Ruffalo is also one of my favourite actors. I look forward to seeing him in Avengers.

Just catching up with this news...

While I'm pleased all to hell we have confirmation Hulk will be in Avengers it's saddening to see Norton go, and Feige has not covered himself in glory in the manner he chose to announce Norton's departure either.

That being said I'm willing to give the new guy a chance. Ruffalo is indeed a fine actor and I'm sure will do a good job.

The only issue I have with him (not a 'deal breaker' just my personal preference) is the same I had with Eric Bana. He doesn't really look the part (Norton has been the closest Banner yet in terms of appearance) But like I said, that's just personal preference.

I wonder if this means a new Hulk movie down the road. I would think that Ruffalo wouldn't come on baord for a small part in one movie. Makes ya wonder.

I'd guess his contract has the option for seperate Hulk movies, but not actual confirmation those movies will be made.

You'd think that he'd get at least one guaranteed. But then again this is the Hulk we're talking about.

I asked this question a couple of pages back: how does changing the actor that plays Bruce screw with continuity? The story is what matters and TIH exists in the Marvel universe as they have created it. Now I would agree that if they change the Hulk design this "continuity" will be signifcantly damaged. And I am a huge fan of the current design.

I don't know about that. My gf watched Ang's Hulk for the first time two nights ago and has a great eye for detail with art and CGI. We had both agreed that in The Hulk he just didn't look like he belonged or was actually in those shots with the environment around him, not to mention he looked way too plastic/rubbery.

The Incredible Hulk CGI is not perfect of course but aside from a shot or two(like when he jumps through the glass at the College and lands on the grass)it looks a bit better and the mixing with him in the background is more believable.

I cannot agree with anyone who thinks the Hulk from Ang's film looks better and I enjoyed both films so it's not some bias from me. Watching Ang's Hulk a few nights ago was the first time in a long time for me and I really don't know which Hulk film I like more, they're both good in their own way.

I think the overall design in TIH was better, but ILM did a good job on Hulk with his skin and lighting but the design in Hulk wasn't that great.

How was the reaction at the Con to the Ruffalo news???

I know RDJ made everyone applaud, but was there any booing,
or did people seem genuinely happy?
