The "I Hate Claire Bennett" Thread

Of course, how dare the writers acknowledge the reality of same sex relationships. It's almost as bad as how they let Black and Asian people appear!

Don't they know that all programs should exclusively be populated by white straight people?:whatever:

Most. Unnecessary. Post. EVER. You are the only one who got a homophobic message out of my post, in which it's not suppose to be because it isn't. Go back to the drawing board. :whatever:

Then please do explain what you meant by calling the relationship unnecessary

Because the relationship is forced. If Claire was gay then who cares, play on it. But with the commercials and the forced story line, this was a ploy to boost ratings(which failed by the way)trying to reach a certain demographic(horny guys).

Before you shoot your pistol, find out why you are shooting it.

I agree with Docker2.0 the lesbian storyline was simply added to get viewers and add little to the show or the characters.

Thank you Chamber sir! I know a lot of people who felt the relationship was only made to boost ratings, including gays.

If this was indeed the case I must say it was a very poor showing. I very much doubt that the aformentioned horny guys would suddenly become devout followers of a program because it once had two women kiss each other for all of five seconds.

However ultimately such things do not concern me. I wish to see greater diversity, in television, film, comics indeed all forms of media. Whether those responsible for said diversity are dedicated to the cause or just doing it for money is irrelevant to me

I would have been happier if Heroes had chosen to pair two men together, as male homosexual relationships are not as represented in the media as those between women. However as you suggest, it's entirely possible the writers wished to try vainly to capitalise on "Hot girl on girl action" to entice the fanboys

In any case, I am merely pleased that Heroes has at least featured a positive gay couple. I really do not care what the behind the scenes reasons for this move were. I don't feel they matter

so as far as Television is concerned, you think diversity > quality... because that's what the whole lesbian thing lacks, or most of Claire's character lacks, quality

I find most television programs to be of rather poor quality personally, so to answer the first segment of your post yes I do consider diversity more important than quality.

As to the second portion of your post, I disagree about Claire's character. In Volume 2 and Volume 3 I would agree with you. She was immensely irritating and I would have been firmly in the hate camp with yourself. But I personally feel that she has improved somewhat and I found her to be one of the characters I liked most in Volume 4 and Volume 5.

She has cut down on the "Why can't I be normal?" whining and there have been fewer "Why did you lie to me!?/Everything I do I do to protect this family" arguments between her and Noah, something which became tedious by the time of season 2

What about the "Lesbian thing" by which I assume you mean the plotline between her and Gretchen, do you feel lacked quality? Just curious as I felt it was one of the few relationships on the show that had any chemistry to it and did not feel forced or poorly thought out. The other being Hiro and Charlie.

I dislike the character because it seems they write her in circles....
1) Claire wants to do something
2)Dad says no
3)Guilt trip dad cause he kept secrets
4)go do what dad said no about
5)Realize you should have listened to dad
6)Ask dad for help
7)Yay we like each other again

In the interests of fairness I should point out the writers write ALL the regular cast that way.

Peter: Is emo about wanting to make a difference with his powers.

Mohinder: Gets tricked by an evil organisation into helping them. Realises at the last minute he's been an idiot. Lather rinse repeat.

Angela: Lies to her family to further her own ends. Comes back to bite her. Does the exact same thing over and over again anyway

Noah Bennett: Is creepily over protective of Claire. Lies to everyone. Learns an important lesson about how lying to his family is wrong. Lies to his family some more the next day

Sylar: Powers. OM NOM NOM NOM.

Nathan: Acts like an a**hole. Has a change of heart and turns good. Acts like an a**hole again.

Hiro: Does something stupid with his time travel powers that puts him in a terrible situation. Spends the rest of the season trying to fix it.

I could go on but I'm losing the will to live. To make a long story short the writers only know how to tell one kind of story for every character. Their character arcs don't progress, they go into reruns.

yeah I guess you are right...just hers irritates me the most...maybe thats why the show is floundering

Couldn't agree with you more Roach. Claire could save the world with the power of a billion suns but it's just something about her that annoys the crap out of me. :argh:

she is self righteous and I hate that in teenagers that dont know anything about the world

Its like they are trying to make her likable but its failing. I'm all for girl/girl action but this just seems so unnecessary.

Yeup.

If they were going to put her w/ another babe, let it be the third Ali Larter triplet...please o please.

:funny: Is it possible to troll a 'I hate so and so' thread. I dig Claire, she's cute, plus her foot broke off one time and she didn't trip. That kind of level headedness is attractive.

'Claire' hate I think is just a symtom of the overall underwhelming writing of the show in general. Now you wanna talk HATE where is the Chloe 'Smallville' hate thread...there I'm with ya...that ****** *****! :argh::wall:

I stopped watching Smallville before she started being a pain

 You been savin' a bunch on car insurance then, I didn't start watchin it til the past 2 or 3 seasons. If Welling weren't a producer she'd probably be first name on the show. When she smiles it upsets me.

I stopped watching because there really isnt an direction on the show....the show was how he became Superman...well he is Superman now...they just dont want him to fly or put him in the super suit

I know right. They do get into the DCU tho-I like that, so I'm down til the wheels fall off I guess

Well, and this is just my opinion, the show's problems are these.

In the first place they are torn between giving the fans exactly what they want and giving the fans exactly what they do not want. They kept Sylar alive solely due to fan demand. This has lead to them finding increasingly contrived ways to keep him around. Then in Season Three they killed off the only two characters of Season two that ANYONE liked: Adam and Elle. And they kept Maya around so that she could be a weepy, annoying stereotype for a few more episodes.

In the second the show is drowning under awful stereotypes. Knox is a black man who gets his powers BY FRIGHTENING PEOPLE. Predominantly white people. Hiro's father is a asian man with what can only be described as super-math powers. Flint is a dumb southern redneck. And the female characters fall into two categories. Sex object or victim.

It's funny you can see those stereotypes but can't see that the Claire lesbo thing is obviously a ploy.

Lesbo. Such a charming turn of phrase.

Because of course, any time two women are together in the media it's nothing but fan service for the male viewers?

What about it was obviously a ploy? The characters kissed. Once. And the relatinship was handled better than any other on the show.Though that is perhaps rather faint praise.

And as I have said, I really could not care less whether it was a plot or not. The behind the scenes reasons for why they added more diversity to the cast do not interest me.

Hurrah! Claire just killed the show. Thanks a mill.....now I can watch something else on Monday nights like...............like................................

Or call himself Superman...

Or not be able to not wear a mask as Superman...

Or have any kind of Secret Identity...

Smallville is another show that IMO passed what made it potentially cool seasons ago...

I blame Claire for the cancellation after season 1 her story arcs were terrible.
