Daredevil The Inevitable Costume Thread

Did anyone else get a renewed faith that we'd see a faithful adaptation of the classic red costume after seeing that Black Panther concept art?
Yeah definitely. If they got BP so spot-on, I can't wait to see how Daredevil looks.

I think Melvin Potter would be a great means to bring in the red costume. Daredevil saves him/defends him in court, and he gives him a costume upgrade out of gratitude.

Had not heard of him before. But after a quick bit of research, think that this could be a great idea.

Im ok with the movie version

But the poster version of the suit would be alot better

The difference is in the thickness of the material. the poster version seem more snug and less bulky
I thought the DD movie was pretty good myself. I never did understand why so many hated it. I thought Ben did a fine job.

Cause shiney oily looking red leather looks like crap. Look like upholstery. And dont get me started on the skullcap/mask thingy.

Anyone that says the Affleck suit looks good is suffering from lack of imagination. I'm sorry but that's the truth.

One thing I've been considering. Let's work on the assumption that something akin to the classic red suit will be in the show, and will appear for a substantial part of the season. Even so, it seems like for the first few episodes at least he'll be wearing the black proto-suit. As such, do you think the red suit might be kept a secret until the show debuts?

I'm not really a fan of leather with this. I want something that suggests flexibility and agility, which is hard to do with tight leather.

That's what I never liked with Elektra's costume. I prefer the comic one with the silky fabric and flowing sashes, like a rhythmic gymnast.

Yeah, I'm hoping for something sleeker akin to Spider-Man. He needs protection but it should be minimal as he's the man without fear after all.

Elektra's protection should be minimal as well, because she's the woman without knickers. :o

I think the Affleck suit looks good and I'm certainly not suffering from lack of imagination - riddle me this.

No, the suit is the last thing that should be kept secret.

I agree, and certainly want to see it as soon as possible! I'm just wondering what Marvel's thought process in marketing it will be...

I don't see why the suit shouldn't be kept a secret. Why does it need to be shown before it appears on the show? So we can nitpick and criticize everything about it?

IMO, it would be refreshing to see a superhero suit in action for the first time in context, before it ever appeared online months or weeks prior. It would be exciting. They should tease it in episode promos or darkly lit promo pics, and let the full reveal take place on the show itself.

No PR department uses that kind of logic when releasing promo material...

A picture with the real suit will inevitably hit the web, sooner or later.

No, it's not. It's only your opinion, nothing more.

Yeah, I liked the movie costume too. The eyes were awesome.

Not a fan of the movie itself but I've never understood the hate it gets. And Affleck was decent in it. I didn't think he was great, but he wasn't terrible either. Most of the flaws were in the story, the bad special effects, and the direction.

I've always found Daredevil's comic book costume to be kind of basic and dull... I actually PREFER the movie costume to it, to be honest.

I didn't think the Daredevil movie was terrible when I last saw it. To me, it was a decent, mid-range superhero movie, nothing great, but not a disaster either. But I've seen opinion on it sour more and more over the years, so maybe it's aged badly. I'll need to watch it again to be sure.

As for the costume in the movie, I liked the mask okay, but I didn't like the red leather. It came from that era of superhero cinema where execs were like, "Skintight spandex is too camp to have our hero wear in the movie, so we'll give them SKINTIGHT LEATHER instead." Daredevil actually has one of my favourite comics costumes. It's plain, but it's dynamic. And given his acrobatic nature it makes sense plotwise for his costume to be lightweight, form-fitting fabric.

I never understood why people claimed that the DD poster suit was different in the film, he just never zipped the collar in the movie. Either way I want a costume thats nothing like the movie version. Not only do I not like that suit but I think its best to distance themselves from the film.

You honestly think bondage Daredevil looks good and it's not just the fact you've all never seen him cinematically portrayed properly before? Lack of imagination, that's all it is. Unless you're into S&M and feel it's an important part of the character for whatever reason.

Then Spider-man must be a ****ing gimp for wearing that monstrosity of a fetish suit, huh?.. :whatever: It's a superhero suit, and superheroes wear ridiculously looking outfits.

It may be true that this is the only version of the suit we've had in live-action adaptation (not counting the one from Trial of the Incredible Hulk) so we can't really compare it to anything, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be.

I do wish to see a different, more functional suit and a different design (for the mask as well), and I am almost certain the one they'll use in the show will be MUCH better than the Affleck one, but still - the suit was the last problem I had with the Daredevil movie.

The one in the poster doesn't have a zipper.

You know what I might have liked more than the Daredevil film? The "making of" documentary that was included in the DVD. I've watched that a few times, and it's kinda fascinating. You can't help but like Mark Steven Johnson from watching that, and seeing all the studio crap and interference he had to put up with ("Does he have to dress like a devil?"), and just how much love and passion he had for the whole thing. You can tell he's a huge fan of the character, that this is essentially his childhood dream come true, and you sooooo wish that with all the love he poured into it that the end product was a great movie rather than just an okay one.

And Ben Affleck, too, you gotta respect the guy when you see how much he just got his ass kicked. Watching him do that tortuous head/whole body casting at the beginning, then him going through the fight training. They have the experts in talking about how he was not a natural learner (Jennifer Garner, on the other hand, took to it like a duck to water and was easily the best out of anyone, apparently), but he worked his ass off to get it right. There's this one sequence that shows him doing the same wirework stunt over and over and over and over, and he keeps on missing the mark, or slipping off, or going swinging and ramming into a wall. There's so much stuff in that, it shows how up against it everyone was in getting this film made.

And, to bring it back on-topic, there's a lot of interesting stuff that goes into the thought process behind making the costume, and some glimpses of other, more radically different interpretations that they did tests for.
