That is one of the most inane comments I have ever heard. And I can tell you as someone who has been exiled from his country ever since the revolution to be proud of where we come from does not mean we agree with anything the current government (which the US, France and Great Britain helped put in place) does.
This is funny, i'm not making fun or degrading, it's just when I hear of Persians, this is what I think of.

It had me laughing quite hard.I AM PERSIAN
O, I am neither a terrorist nor a wife beater, I don't live in a tent and in the desert and camels are not our ways of transportation.
I speak Farsi, not Arabic.
Iran is pronounced "EERAUN" and not "I - ran" (it's not track & field)
News flash: Iran and Iraq are two different countries; Middle East is a region and NOT a continent.
Belly dancers are NOT strippers (there is no sex in the Champaign room);
Anyway, belly dancing is an Arabic dance, it never came from Iran.
Each time you play a game of chess to improve your intellect, keep in mind that it was Persians who gave you your game.
Iranian women are just as outspoken (if not more) and liberal as the European (western) women.
Iran is the first country on earth to have a lion (male) and a sun
(female) as its symbol; and the colors red, white, and green for a flag.
A beautiful country run by the wrong people, but still is the best part of
Middle East
Allow me to introduce myself:
I'M A PERSIAN. MY LAND IS IRAN!
Post this if you're proud to be a "PERSIAN"; to all Persians and more?
I just thought this was quite interesting and may give a few a better understanding.

To bring some seriousness back into this thread, an honest question. I thought people hated being called Persians like asians hate being called oriental.
You must be calling the wrong Asians Oriental then. Because I prefer it. The only Asians that are Oriental are the Japanese, Koreans, and Chinese.
That is pretty funny. It had me laughing quite hard.
I've heard that it's not "pc" also and have been corrected before. Although, I don't know if I've ever actually been corrected by an asian, usually it's by an annoying white guy/girl.You must be calling the wrong Asians Oriental then. Because I prefer it. The only Asians that are Oriental are the Japanese, Koreans, and Chinese.
I thought this was because they didn't want to deal with teh idiots that would blindly hate them for being Iranian so they say Persian, which the hating idiots don't connect Iran.I actually thought that many Iranians living in the US preferred to be called "Persians".

I've been to Iran. Tehran for a wedding. There were lots of cats and kabob stands.
The first thing I thought of when I got off the plane was The Iron Sheik though I dont even think they have Sheik's in Iran?
