Do you think Iron Man overall BO will push the Avengers franchise in front of Harry Potter and claim the no 1 spot?

No. But the Marvel Cinematic Universe is projected to take the #1 spot from Potter with Avengers 2.

Holy cow....

Its at $948,993,000.

Domestic: $284,893,000 30.0%+ Foreign: $664,100,000 70.0%

Another 50 million plus and its 1 billion.

Simply incredible.

6 Years ago Ironman was b-tier at best. Then after civil war, he was probably the most hated character among comic book fans.

Fast forward 6 years, he is marvel's 2nd most popular character (after spidey.....but I reckon, he might take over that position eventually).

At this rate, it might beat the avenger's foreign takings of $888,400,000 :woot:

Yep. I keep saying it, $1.4b OS for A2. It might do even more than THAT.

If Avengers does that much...I get goosebumps thinking of how much Episode 7 will make that summer. Oh Disney...you evil empire you....

Guess you have RDJ to thank largely for that, I think it's going to be REAL telling to see if a non Downey film will hit a billion let alone the numbers that IM3 is making.

Yeah I imagine Disney will give Downey a lot to come back at least to Avengers 3.

But wow, worldwide, Iron Man 3's final worldwide take is going to basically be comparable to Avenger.

Let's just put this in perspective. The Avengers' overseas box office take was $888 million. Iron Man 3 is already at $664 million overseas.

It's going to be crazy. Despite all these solo films, Avengers 2 will be the 1st actual sequel to Avengers and sequel time is when overseas really gets explosive.

To be fair to bond prior to skyfall its most profitable movies came out during the 60's. Inflated i think thunderball is at $500 m domestically alone.

It isnt even that fun to discuss these movies anymore. Everything has to be the greatest movie ever made, its 'meh', or its the worst movie ever made. Every movie is nitpicked to death and every franchise has some large group of rival trolls crapping on everything/concern trolling.
They're like any other minority of psychorigid people that can not accept change. Just for that, I'm more than happy that IM3 makes more than a billion, it deserves it more than other movies for sure.

It's true but it does set up another type of fun in a way. Watching the trolls crash and burn on other movie sites is entertainment that springs off the hatred. Sites like IMDB feature their own form of "psychorigid" trolls that are easy to frustrate by simply staying positive. I'd prefer to simply discuss the movie (likes AND dislikes) the way sane individuals used to do but by posting thoughts only in positive threads it seems to greatly frustrate the trolls over there. That and the box office numbers are reward enough at least at that site.

In more open sites like this one, it's best to just gage where the criticism comes from. If it's legitimate fan concern or general movie fan complaints then it's interesting to engage in the chatter. If it's rival trolls crusading against a film they wanted to hate in the first place, it's best to just ignore them completely. It's not always easy to spot who is who.

With the success of RDJ with Marvel, it's probably safe to say he can ask for any amount, short of ridiculous, and get paid. If his films are banking over a billion, he will never leave. Getting paid $50 million and more, who can walk away from that. I just hope Favreau comes back and directs him one more time.

Chris Nolan did. He got paid like what? $80 million for Dark Knight Rises :D .

Also Favreau is directing Downey in Chef.

It's just unreal how well Iron Man 3 is doing. This is great news, hopefully Thor keeps it going this fall.

Iron Man has long been my favorite superhero, and I just love seeing how successful the character has become.

Looks great!

Man if only Sony and marvel make a deal to include the new spidey flicks In the marvel cinematic universe it would definitely put the mcu franchise in the #1 spot

Disney got Avengers 2, Episode 7, and Finding Dory lining up in 2015. If they don't break all the BO records that year something must be wrong.

Same here. He was one of the superheroes I collected monthly back when I was buying comics. It's surreal to see how popular he has gotten. I'd never have imagine his movies can make more than a billion WW in just one film. He is now an A-list character thanks to RDJ and Marvel Studios.

It's gonna break it without Spider-Man anyway.

Growing up, I loved the Avengers and all the other kids at school thought they were lame and loved the X-Men. Now the Avengers and Iron Man are way bigger than the X-Men and Wolverine have ever been.
