Iron Man 3 The Iron Man 3 Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 1

Growing up, I loved the Avengers and all the other kids at school thought they were lame and loved the X-Men. Now the Avengers and Iron Man are way bigger than the X-Men and Wolverine have ever been.

Things are weird like that, if you had told me ten years ago that Iron Man and Superman were at the top of summer blockbuster hype pile and a Hugh Jackman headed Wolverine film would be near the bottom, I'd have laughed you all the way out the building for being ludicrous.

Speaking of 2003, let's get that ball rolling getting Daredevil to the top.

Disney got Avengers 2, Episode 7, and Finding Dory lining up in 2015. If they don't break all the BO records that year something must be wrong.
$$$$$$$$ :word:

I can just say that growing up, having Iron Man be my favorite Superhero, and other than the comics and the 1966 TV show, having really no other media to display him in, it's been a thrill seeing him go from an obscure character, to near cultural icon status.

There's no doubt that Iron Man is now up there with Spider-man, as far as Marvel's list of flagship characters.

Definitely. He's a globally well known name now and he really wasn't known at all in the UK before (from my experience). I'd have expected Iron man to be very much a B character making about $150m domestic but it shows the rewards when a film company gets it right 1st time. The likes of Green Lantern could/should have been sharing this kind of glory if WB/DC had had the same respect for their character.

RDJ is a cash cow there is no way he's going to give up Iron Man anytime soon. He'll be back for IM4 i'm sure of it.

If he can get a similar deal to Avengers I can't see why he would ever stop. :woot:

Because you can't keep taking the same character to a higher level as an actor. Eventually you get burned out, and there is nothing else you can put into it. I don't think RDJ can take the character to new, unspeakable heights as it stands right now. If he gets too comical, his take will become a joke and the public will start rolling their eyes as the humor fades into borderline camp, which it was at times (see IM2). If he gets too serious, then Stark is taking himself too seriously. It also doesn't fit the business model for Disney. They won't touch Demon in a Bottle. We won't ever get playboy Stark again. They won't touch those darker, thematic elements, not even to what we got with Bruce Wayne in TDKT. So if you are constantly trying to find this middle ground and grey sort of area, you eventually overstep your bounds by upping the ante. I can't see what else they can do with solo IM movies. He gave up the gig. He wants to move on with Pepper. He will consult on the Avengers and probably be back in the suit at some point, but IM3 started to close the books. I think A2 will be it as far as full featured IM/Stark, and RDJ may continue with cameos or supporting roles in the future unless they recast.

I don't expect Iron Man 4 to be too soon but I think he'll be involved in Avenger films beyond 2. He'll always be able to add something unique in a team environment, will probably find it fun, will be appreciated by the audience and probably earn a lot of money for not that much work.

MLSkinner, the mount Everest of maturity.

If MOS doesn't beat Green Lantern; I will literally cry. Great what
IM-3 is doing (keep going) but I hope MOS does just as well. The
red caped guy (Oh! I mean red caped DC guy) deserves his day in
the sun.
for Stan and Jack and John and Joe: Make mine Marvel!!!!:yay::yay::yay:

There was also a 90s cartoon and the odd straight-to-DVD animated film, but yeah having experienced both now it is far more fun being a fan of a popular character than an obscure one.

English is my first language and I got it at the first read so maybe it's YOUR English skills that need work, haha

I'm not good with overall projections and what not when it comes to Box Office, but what is the amount hat IM3 is expected to finish around? 1.1 B? 1.2?

likely 1.2 billion. It should finish just behind Harry Potter: DHpt2 as far as overall WW gross.

Do you guys think $30million is a realistic number for this weekend. If I did the numbers right this should be a 10% larger drop than Iron Man 2.

It's just unreal how well Iron Man 3 is doing. This is great news, hopefully Thor keeps it going this fall.

Same here:thor:

Iron Man has long been my favorite superhero, and I just love seeing how successful the character has become.

If Thor:TDW does atleast 800 million I'll be feeling the same way about my favorite superhero.

Yeah, the STID factor should be pretty huge this weekend. But 25-30 million is quite possible, IMO.

I wonder where GG will end up, since it still has literally no competition for its target demographic. That said, I heard it sucked?

$30m + should be gettable from $72.5 even if Star Trek dominates. Will be very disappointed with anything less.

I want to be careful about overstating Trek's performance, because I got burned on that the last Trek movie. I was sure it would have an Iron Man type opening and it didn't.

I would expect Trek to have a 100M opening if it can keep the same audience, with inflation and 3D boost. I've seen people predicting ST at 135 range, and while I'd love to see that happen, I'm not going to go that far. I'm going to say 90-100, maybe 110M if everything lines up correctly.

Star Trek has never had a huge fan base (sorry Trekkies), not like Star Wars, not like Batman, Spider-man, or now Iron Man does. If they can prove me wrong, I will be the happiest person on the planet for them to join those ranks.

For some reason Star Trek has just had no international appeal, and it's success has been limited to the U.S. Other than Star Trek 2 and Star Trek First Contact, there really have been no outstanding Trek films, until Abram's films. Most of the films appear very dated.

IM3 should be able to garner 30M, and I would not be surprised to see an under 50% drop.

And POTC5. Disney breaking all the records that year.

IM3 breaking into the top 20 all time worldwide at some point today.

Haven't seen them yet but should be soon. Only needs $2.6m to overtake Lion King worldwide today though. Will finish 5th overall if it gets $1.2B.

The BoT forums are saying 3-4.6M but those numbers are not official. Not sure if they came from Nikki Finke or RTH. I'm guessing toward 4M or higher because both IM1 and 2 were around the 3.7M range for the same Monday.
