Iron Man 3 The Iron Man 3 Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 1

No doubt. Well, Thor 2 should be a good test. Hemsworth and Hiddleston are stars now, making the cast pretty stellar. Should be a spectacular film. Will be interesting to see how that goes.

Although a figure like $600 million worldwide seems like a lowball estimate at this point, which would probably have made people LoL when speaking of a Thor movie a couple of years ago. So, whatever.

Thor has Hemsworth and Hiddleston, and Cap has half of the Avengers cast returning. That will definitely help those films.

Since The Avengers helped Iron Man, Thor, Loki, Captain America, Nick Fury, and Hulk to get more fans, I now predict that Iron Man 3 will do better than the Avengers.

won't happen. i think a lot of the avengers money came from die hard fans seeing the movie multiple times.

iron man 3 is awesome imo, but you can absorb all the cool moments in one viewing more or less.

avengers on the other hand, had so much spectacle that i personally saw it 3 times before thinking i could handle the wait until the blu-ray.

if im3 had made more than 200 m opening weekend in america, then i'd agree with your prediction, but yeah.

IM3 actually has an outside chance to challenge Avenger's overseas gross but domestically it will fall at least 150 million short.

I think Thor will do solid business overseas. Big actors like Hopkins and Portman. Should work well with the European and Australian crowd. Asia and elsewhere, not certain. So that will definitely improve by at least 100 million. Domestically, I don't see the same amount of growth. It will come down to WoM and reception. I can see as high as 250 million. Not going any higher than that. I think I'd cap it at 700 million.

I am thinking it will do worst than Avengers and Iron Man 2 since it has a new director and everything.

Since The Avengers helped Iron Man, Thor, Loki, Captain America, Nick Fury, and Hulk to get more fans, I now predict that Iron Man 3 will do better than the Avengers.
It's gone from worse than IM2 to better than Avengers overnight! You must have had a box office revelation last night! :woot::woot:

By tomorrow night it should have overtaken 3 Twilight films and Hunger games worldwide. :woot:

It's 58th all time worldwide (unadjusted) after just 1 US weekend.

I'm seeing it again in IMAX tomorrow...

IM3 will be well past a billion before Star Trek even hits theaters, that is some insane ****...

I knew Iron Man 3 wouldn't top The Avengers in box office numbers, but really ... It's RARE for a movie to be as successful as The Avengers.

Iron Man 3 is kicking butt in the box office right now though, and I'm thrilled about it. I think the movie totally deserves it. :)

is it wrong that the score is one of the reasons I HAVE to see it again? it's stuck in my head right now

I've noticed the Star Trek advertising has pumped up tremendously. I thought it was a huge mistake for Paramount not to attach the trailer to IM3, not sure why they didn't, but I bet Paramount is worried about getting lost in the mix, and are trying to pump up the awareness.

ST:ITD will no doubt open no, 1 but I think there's a real risk that it could open lower than 2009's 75M opening. I hope that doesn't happen, because I really enjoyed the 2009 film, but that's the risk you take when you wait 4 years between sequels.

They did because I got the trailer, it just depends if you were lucky enough. Just like not every screening got MOS trailer, which I didn't :cmad:

The Star Trek trailer aired before my IM3 showing.

Looks like I was wrong about the actuals going up from the estimates. Still an astonishing opening weekend. 400mil is in the bag, I'm thinking 430-465mil total.

There was a trailer for Star Trek when I saw Iron Man 3.

I got 8 trailers at an Imax showing, including Star Trek.

Star Trek at my screening too.

I got to see the MoS trailer in IMAX 3D... Pleasant surprise.

I also thought that waiting 4 years between the two movies was a huge mistake on Paramount's part, and now with IM3 having the second biggest opening of all time, I'm sure their execs are regretting about opening the Star Trek sequel a mere 2 weeks after IM3 as well.
