It'll make right around 750-800 million. It won't make a billion and I don't think it'll even come close it. Unlike The Avengers last year or even Iron Man 1's great run this actually has big competition in the weeks following its release. The Avengers and Iron Man 1 had absolutely no competition for a while following their releases.

BS, Iron Man 1 had to compete against Chronicles of Narnia and Indiana Jones. Speed Racer was a huge flop, much bigger than anyone predicted.

A billion is really not a lot of money anymore, especially for a thriving franchise.

I can't really get a read, on Great Gatsby, but I'm betting flop. But it will be no 1 for two weeks regardless, and I think it will have a 150 plus opening.

I think IM3 will open to at least 160 million on its opening weekend. Then at least 70 million on its 2nd weekend. No clue about weekdays but that will put it at least 230 million. So add what? Another 20 million from 2 weeks worth of weekdays and thats 250 million by the time STID opens, yes?

Not really good at predicting numbers but it really puts Avengers' success into perspective.

My current worldwide prediction is around $900 million. A billion is a rather difficult spot to attain but it is one that can happen mainly due to The Avengers' staggering gross.

EXCLUSIVE: The movie starts rolling out in major markets internationally first two weeks ahead of its domestic release on May 3rd. Iron Man 3 just came on tracking this morning and is looking huge: $125+ million opening which would match and probably exceed the blockbuster take of Iron Man 2 for a non-holiday 3-day weekend. I’ve learned that total awareness numbers are in the 90s while definite interest is at 67 which is higher than even The Avengers, which went on to make the highest North American opening of all time with $207M. Iron Man 3 also has incredibly strong numbers with women and Hispanics across the board. Marketing for the Robert Downey Jr threequel began early and its teaser trailer debut received 35 million global streams in just 24 hours.

This is great news IMO. Numbers coming out this early usually underpredict the numbers (Avengers was tracking for 150 mill). I epect this to open between 145-160 mill.

It is very encouraging that interest in Iron Man 3 is even higher than it was for The Avengers. That definitely shows that there is an "Avengers Effect" on interest in Marvel films.


Tracking for the biggest blockbusters is usually low, so IM3 will undoubtedly exceed projections. The Hunger Games was tracked for $100 million at this point before it was released, which was over $50 million off the mark. Should that hold true for IM3, $175 million+ isn't out of question.

I'm predicting 800 mill. If however critic reviews and WOM are great (85+ on RT, 70+ on Metacritic, A Cinemascore) ala Skyfall, MI 4 and Avengers, this will hit a billion imo.

$160m opening week would be incredible. Threatening TDK territory.
