Civil War The Iron Man Thread (Cap 3 Edition)

Well I know that. What I mean is a real fight or two between CAPTAIN AMERICA and IRONMAN solely.

Wanna know what I'M tired of??? The same damn climax every movie: the heroes team up whether or not there was disagreement prior, they dispose of vast multitudes of faceless mooks, and then they go after the villain for a fight that is literally 2 minutes long. We had that in both Avengers movies already among other MCU films, why go for that concept again?

Whereas an entirely hero vs hero plot is original, for the MCU at least. It would be new, and very badass

Yeah, and makes the heroes look like trigger-happy unreasonable idiots. "Hey, we're so inept/impulsive that we cannot solve our disagreements without punching each other, and causes lots of collateral damage in the process." Yeah that doesn't really sound appealing, and NONE of the comic book arcs have been able to make it work:

CW-Garbage.
AVX-Garbage.
Original Sin-Garbage.
World War Hulk-Meh.
Trinity War-Meh.
Etc.

Anyone seen the leaked caps of the two teams fighting? Can't wait to see the trailer!

Theyre gonna have to stop doing those huge city leveling battles at the end of every MCU movie. That is so stale. I want battles but not only at the end of the movies. They need to come up with other ideas.

How many times have cities been leveled in MCU films?

Many times, that's a common trope in not just Superhero films but even action films in general cities and building get leveled.

As I recall:

TIH broke Harlem.
Thor I wrecked a small town in the southwest.
Avengers ruined a good chunk of Manhattan.
AoU destroyed several cities.
Ant-Man blew up a building.
CapTWS crashed a helicarrier into an office building and two others into a river.
ThorTDW tore up a small portion of real estate.
IronMan2 destroyed a technological expo.
IronMan3 wrecked a shipyard (? oil rig? construction site?)

Not a comprehensive list, but the climactic destruction is not all about leveling a city. Superhero stories don't end without a big fight and collateral damage.

Team Ant-Man were nice enough to clean up after themselves :cwink:

Cap: You leave me with no choice Tony we must battle.

Iron Man: Okay, but try to keep the property damage to a minimum, the people really got on us when we destroyed a building but saved their lives last time.

:funny:

Tony: Gramps, We're doing the registration act so we dont have to level anymore cities in these movies. Its become too cliche.

Cap: Well I like the explosions and having mass casualities in every film. So lets go. Ugh! *throws shield at gas tank* BOOOOOOM

I keep seeing on multiple sites that people are tired of the big hero vs villain battle at the end(much criticism directed towards The Winter Soldier for instance) but..no one ever suggests how these films should end instead:huh::huh:

Rock Paper Scissors :o

Eddy, uh, how bout a huge battle between both teams??? That's original AF. I know that is essentially the concept of the plot, but imagine the possibilities for a climax!

Also like to point out that you could still have Zemo working behind the scenes, but I just don't want the heroes realizing their differences and coming back together AGAIN at the end of the movie just to fight Zemo and whatever minions he has. We have seen that enough already, and with an antagonist who probably doesn't have very many physical advantages (Loki was a super-powered alien who wielded a powerful scepter that could brainwash people and shoot blasts; Ultron was an extremely powerful/durable robot who could manifest multiple forms, enter the internet, take multiple shots from the heroes without becoming badly crippled, fire powerful blasts from his fingers, and terraform the environment via Chitauri tech. These are two villains that had a lot going for them. But Zemo? Seems more like a Red Skull clone)

I have been preaching this for a long damn time lol, but sadly it probably will not workout this way

Id like to see fights where its about the physical action rather than just buildings being blown up. Like have these guys use their athletic/combat skills to thrill the viewer rather than a huge explosion filled spectacle.

For example: remember TWS fight in the middle of the movie? That was AWESOME. It was like Bourne Identity type stuff but with super heroes. More fun to me than the Hellicarriers falling from the sky.

Definitely Agree with you. TWS showcased great action without buildings being blown up except for the Hellicarriers and SHIELD HQ the fights were gritty and intense. I would love it if it the action was more focused on the hand to hand/power combinations while keeping it at a smaller battlefield something simple like a field or just one area of a facility

I mean, these are still superhero movies. The hero usually has to take on the villain at the end. It's just how it is. I suppose people are getting tired because of how many CBM movies we are getting. And with the DCEU movies on the horizon, filmmakers will have to get creative.

Personally I don't mind. A good film is a good film, even if it's not the most original.

Its just EVERY movie has the same three act structure which is kinda weird after awhile. You see one after another with the same types of things happening. If anything, thats what makes these kinds of movies sorta stale for me. The main content is usually fine though, its just the same old blow out endings that make me yawn.

I would recommend maybe watching other types of movies, then.

Yes, like a palate cleanser.

All the talk about superhero movie fatigue? Partly its because some people (regular folk, media watchers, what-have-you) classify each one as more of the same or they look at the trend like the real estate market before 2008 -- as a bubble primed to burst. (Frankly, I think some of them are rubbing their hands raw with anticipation.)

I think superhero movies are like any other genre. Yes, they can be formulaic. Storytelling in general relies on formulas/tropes/structures. But as long as there is creativity and market-driven competition, there will always be the hope of a new twist along with the comfort of the familiar.

Me? I thank every superhero movie for not being a vampire movie or a bad rom-com.

I'll be disappointed if a movie called Civil War has a final battle of the opposing teams sitting in a Starbucks and decided to settle their score over a game of Chess. :o
