The Jared Leto is The Joker(?) Thread

I can't wait until the actual extended cut comes out so we can judge the new scenes and not a couple of trailer lines.

Same. We've only seen a few seconds more than before and people are misconstruing it as "emo" or calling it boring.

Let's just wait 'til we actually get the full extended cut before jumping the gun.

Well, except with the emo remark. Full version or not, that's just 100% inaccurate.

Don't waste your time, Greens. We're being inundated with people who, for some odd reason, inexplicably want Jared Leto's Joker to suck & will pick apart absolutely anything he does, even when it's perfectly in line with what the Clown Prince of Crime would do.

Broken records.

no one " wants " Leto's Joker to suck.

He just ... does.

" You left me in a black hole of raaage and con-FUSION "

Yeah, still comes off like an emo-ass *****. I guess that's to be expected when the actor is literally a lead singer of an emo rock band, though.

While the line would seem that way, it seems to me that he delivers it in the joking manner. You know, like the Joker should.

If he said it with serious tone, I'd agree with you.

He's obviously exaggerating by using figure of speech. I do not see what the big deal is.

There is no big deal. Just a bunch of people complaining unnecessarily & repeating themselves endlessly.

Agreed.

Again, if he said the line seriously like he meant it, it would probably come off as cringeworthy or emo, or whatever one wants to call it. But he didn't.

There's no reason to believe he was not being serious. Joker often says things he means in a humorous way because as you said he's the Joker, e.g. he delivers threats in humorous joking ways but that doesn't mean he isn't being serious about saying what he'll do. Or when he tells Batman in a humorous way that he is obsessed with him to the point that Batman completes him;

Heck 95% of his monologues in The Killing Joke about madness were peppered with humor. I can't remember a time when Joker didn't say things he means in a humorous way.

Wrong. There is no big deal because a bad emo style line is the least of the character's many problems. Just because people mock something for its crapiness doesn't mean its a big deal.

As for unnecessarily complaining repeatedly, that is real funny coming from someone who constantly complains about the complaining. Talk about unnecessary, not to mention hilariously ironic. Won't even get started on the deluded accusations of fans wanting Letoker to suck. That one took the cake.

If you want to wrap yourself in cotton wool and make believe that fans complaints and criticisms about Letoker are unnecessary and they actually want this Joker to suck then fine, but spare us your hypocritical moaning and digs about it. You don't get whining and digs from us thrown at you for liking it.

I dont know if its a small majority of fans,. but most of the people who saw the movie here in Greece from the conversations i heard after the movie,. either didnt like his Joker,. or felt they needed to see more. Me personally,. i didnt like it. He didnt come off to me as crazy,. i honestly just saw him "acting crazy" if that makes any sense.

Exactly.

I just don't see how it's a bad emo line. Considering the context where he's building up to the electroshock therapy in a deliberately over-dramatic way, it fits.

There's a hundred other ways Joker could have said Harley left him angry and confused in a dramatic way without saying it in such emo style. It stands out as emo because that kind of black hole of rage and despair lingo is exactly the sort of wording emos frequently use.

Just to clarify again; expressing distaste for the line being said in this manner doesn't mean it's a big deal. Not every gripe is a major one.

There's nothing emo about the line or its delivery.

I don't think there is ever going to be a big consensus. The people here who like the Joker by Leto or want to like it will continue to do so. The number of people it didn't work for, the same.

On a fundamental level, I didn't like Leto's take on the Joker at all. I can recognize what he was trying to do. It just didn't work for me. We'll see where they go with it in the future.

But at the end of the day, imagining Joker with all that ink is just hard for me to buy into.

I never want to see this Joker again. :funny:

It was almost borderline parody, and I've liked Leto in other roles, but this was just awful.

But at the end of the day, imagining Joker with all that ink is just hard for me to buy into.

Maybe Alan Dean Foster will explain Joker's thought process in getting tattooed in a novelisation.

Letos Joker was no more emo than Heaths I'd say. I guess there's always going to be an element of that in the character as a tragic clown.

Heath going on about his scars could easily be classified as emo.. but it's not. Just because something happens to be part of the emo lexicon (back in the 2000's) doesn't mean there's a connection.

That's because it's not. Covered in tattoos, jewelry, and spouting lines about black holes of depression, that's emo.

Come on, you're really reaching here. How is this Joker's lifestyle emo? He enjoys a pretty high standard of living, goes around in flashy purple cars, wears flashy suits, laughs his ass off all the time. Tattoos are emo? That's new.

Meanwhile, Heath's Joker probably smelled like something that ran off Luther's boot and went around forcefully explaining his scars to people because ANARCHY!

See how easily a character can be misconstrued?

When I say something along the lines of smelling bad is emo then you can accuse me of that.

He spends the movie in a pit of depression looking for his missing gf, he wears a tattoo on his forehead, which according to the director is a message telling everyone his body is damaged, and I don't know what rock you're living under where you don't know emos are often covered in tattoos.

Meanwhile, Heath's Joker probably smelled like something that ran off Luther's boot and goes around forcefully explaining his scars to people.

Since when is smelling bad an emo thing? Are all homeless people emo then? You accuse me of reaching.

Joker mind screwing with his would be victims about his physical deformity is not emo. Whining about the black hole of depression some girl he liked sent him into, that's emo.

See how easily a character can be misconstrued?

Not in this case. He's being judged exactly for what he is.

I have multiple tattoos so that's probably one of the dumbest things you've ever posted. One of.
