The Jared Leto is The Joker(?) Thread

Can they loose the overdone tattoos?
Those damaged his looks too much.

One thing i can see is EVERYONE getting behind Batfleck sooooo much when he's kicking the crap out of Leto's Joker. If a scene like the interrogation room from TDK happens between these two, i can just hear the audience CHEERING as Batman lays into Joker. It might be enough to get the Batfleck haters on his side lol.

If they elect to not completely scrap Leto's abomination, I would not mind Batfleck beating The Juggaloker to death

Not like it would be the first person he's killed, no big deal to me. In fact he'd be doing a great service for us all.

Was anybody cheering when Baleman was beating the hell out of Joker? I thought the whole point was that he was losing composure and compromising his integrity.

I think the point is that Heath Lesser's Joker was so unlikable that the only reason people would like to see him come back is for Batfleck to beat his face in (again)

I was ready to jump off a cliff with the "I've got some grape soda on ice and a bearskin rug waiting" line.

Ceasar... Jack... Heath... hell, not even Mark Hamill, with all their Joker magic pulled together could have made that line work - or sound any less cringey.

Jared got booted with the WORST Joker lines, so thanks for that, Ayer.

That's the reason I wanted to see him in the first place.

We need a scene like this :

That goes for the entire cast. Let's not forget Ayer directed Viola Davis to describe Harley Quinn as being 'crazier and more fearless" than the Joker. Right before freaking out because she's afraid of water 'cause she "can't swim" (even though New 52 Harley is seen swimming regularly). Oh and let's not forget Enchantress (a 6000 year old individual) saying "you don't have the balls" to Flagg. :o

The message is clear: don't ever let David Ayer near another comic book movie.

This iteration was incredibly disappointing, but I think half the fault can be placed upon David Ayer for letting Leto basically do whatever he wanted. I think we could get a good performance out of Leto with a more focused vision from a more qualified director.

Leto's Joker can still be redeemed.

And please, for the love of God, give Leto a more traditional outfit this time around.

I'm going to be slightly disappointed if we don't see Joker in The Batman. They really set up the Jason story in BvS, I want them to show what happened.

What, like a flashback sequence like we got in Under the Red Hood? That could possibly work...it'd be a way to work the Joker in a flashback and possibly give him a classic look. Though if it was in the past, we'd still know where his look ended up in Suicide Squad.

Definitely a contributing factor. However Leto's performance will still forgettable.

I still think it's stupid we didn't get a Robin flashback in Suicide Squad. I would've reworked that entire storyline. Enchantress was a mistake. Joker should have been the primary villain. The whole movie would've been better if they adapted "Batman: Assault on Arkham" word for word

But yeah a flashback like that is an absolute must for the DCEU. It's too iconic to pass up

Well, maybe not so much word for word since we've seen how The Killing Joke worked out when a DC film tries a literal adaptation of something and it doesn't always land right.

I'm actually really hoping for a flashback that would detail those events. Robin's death, written by Affleck, is something I think Leto could really shine with. And it would definitely set the tone going forward.

And by the by, I have to notice it shows how moronic Ayer was in putting this together to say that Joker got his teeth smashed out for killing Robin, goes to Arkham & turns Harleen to Harley and then he puts that she was an accomplice in Robin's murder.

How is that possible when they didn't even know each other yet?

Damn, man, Ayer was wasted as ****.

Yeah that inconsistency can't be ignored. SS could've accomplished so much in building up the history of the DCEU. It was a misfire and we just have to get past it. At least we can take comfort in knowing that Ayer isn't going to do another DC movie.. Right? :(

I wish I could take comfort in the fact that Snyder wasn't doing another DC movie, but sadly I can't.

At first I didn't like the Snyder movies but over time, I've come to think of them as masterpieces... BvS is the most misunderstood superhero movie ever.

I get why people don't like his movies, but I really appreciate what he's going for. The ambition is definitely there, and he's definitely made an effort to make these films as epic as possible, and I really appreciate that.

Is anybody making these films bloody competent? :hehe:

I get Ayer was rushed... but that's no excuse for those type of mistakes going into the actual shooting... and nobody even in the bloody film pointed out those flaws.

The only part I thought he played brilliantly were the Asylum scenes, particularly the part where he asked Harley for a machine gun, and that was it. That felt very Joker-like. The rest of his performance was inconsistent. It's like others have said, he played a guy who didn't know how to be crazy, rather than playing someone genuinely insane.

I refuse to believe that Leto can't be salvaged in the role, however. His delivery of lines - especially, "He's so inTENSE!" - made me hear Jim Carrey, and that really, REALLY shouldn't of happened. But I do think he can be saved.

And it was a forgettable performance... mostly because we want to repress it from our memories :hehe:

Imo, his delivery on the bridge was great too, and came off very Joker-like. I'd even say the same for the Chemical Wedding scene given the other takes I've seen. It just seems like, for some inexplicable reason, Ayer decided to choose the most animated take available instead of the strongest & most coherent.

I can't even picture Affleck's Batman taking on this Joker. Doesn't even seem right.

Same. Like, if Joker was never in SS and Affleck made his own version, it certainly wouldn't be what we got.
