He could always just use Joker Venom/Toxin. Administer it through syringes or other methods. Doesn't have to be Gas.

It's perfectly reasonable and realistic for ANYONE with a triple digit IQ and an imagination to become "good with chemicals."

Not EVERYTHING has to be connected to the first movie.

The Scarecrow and the Joker have been in cahoots, but the Batman has foiled their plot and the Scarecrow is injured. The Joker is in a fit of rage, blaming the Scarecrow for their failure, and Crane manages to gas him. The Joker cries out in fear as the toxin takes over, turning to a corner, seemingly cowering in fear. The Scarecrow's eyes show a hint of victory and he turns to leave, but he stops as a chuckle slips from the Joker's mouth. The chuckle builds as the Joker slowly rises back up to his full height, only this time, the madness in his eyes has increased ten fold, and the smile on his face is as wide as ever. He moves over to Crane, who has already pulled off his mask in horror, and has now begun to retreat. Both move slowly, as if in a dream. Crane trips and falls, but continues to retreat, crawling towards nothing in particular. His elbow hits cold steel, and he knows he has nowhere left to hide. The Joker stops and frowns momentarily. "Well now, you don't look well at all! This stuff is guaranteed to make you smile!" His frown vanishes, replaced with a devlish smile. He reaches down and picks up Crane's toxin. "Here, try some of this," he says as he sprays Crane down with fear gas. Crane's face has slowly gone into a wide grin, but behind his eyes, there is nothing but terror. Even so, he begins to laugh horribly, a sick, painful laugh that is completely unwanted, but unable to be managed. As the Joker walks away, he says, "Havent you ever been told not to mix medecines?" I like. Very cool, and very evil . Kudos to you!

As for the OP, it actually seems to fit in well with the final scene on the rooftop with Bats and Gordon, and recovering from the effects of the gas. I like even more the idea that he was already bonkers when the gas was released, and the gas just didn't affect him (he O.D'ed on some hallucinogen, that made the world look like a joke... see where this could lead?).

Still, relating it back to BB gives, in my opinion, a definite sense of continuity.

Interesting idea, but no. The Joker is insane because he's the Joker. Allude to a tragic past that caused him to snap but don't blame his insanity on something so common as fear gas. Don't even say it *worsened* his condition, it's still giving too much wrong emphasis. And if it were true there'd be multiple Jokers created in the Narrows.


Better idea is....the Joker was the only Asylum inmate unaffected by the gas during the riots. That's how he escaped the police crackdown in the Narrows, and how he also knows that Batman isn't a demon. He's has no fear.

I think you've got the right idea, man. The Joker is a lunatic amongst lunatics. The "tragic past" thing shouldn't be overstated, that's just cliched, but the fear gas isn't enough to produce the most insane villain ever. Plenty of people are affected by the fear gas. Some people are speculating that the guy mentioned in the page 1 article of The Gotham Times (beats his kids, etc.) becomes the Joker - bull****. First of all, we're not entirely sure when that happens in relation to the end of Batman Begins, when the Joker apparently already exists - but it's probably after. And anyway, a fireman? Goes crazy from fear toxin and becomes the Joker? I don't think so...

But at this point, we shouldn't be speculating too much. It's still seven months away, we haven't even had a trailer with footage yet...we just don't know what the f*** is going to happen in this movie. In fact, I'm guessing I'll walk out of the cinema after watching it and still not know what the f*** happened, because I'll be so overwhelmed by finally seeing it and it'll totally blow us all away. It's just going to be one of those movies. It'll leave me dazed, I'm sure.

While the Joker being a victim of the fear toxin is an interesting way to link TDK to "Begins," I say no. Not only because it's a cheap and easy way to explain his condition, but also because it's best not to tamper with his mysterious origins. I agree, and it's already been posted, that the Joker should just come out of nowhere - he simply pops into the scene.

Also, he should be "above" the fear toxin's effects. If anyone remembers the Knightfall storyline in the comics, there's a scene where Scarecrow sprays Joker with fear gas. Joker fakes being afraid, then beats the crap out of Scarecrow, letting him know during the beatdown that there's no deep-seated fear he has hidden inside. Joker has a lot of mystique, and I'd love for TDK to emulate that scene - let Crane spray Joker, only for Joker to be unfazed and laugh in reaction.

I'm a fan of Joker carving the smiles into peoples' face, emulating his scar smile... but he'd killthem afterwards ^^
Also, I want him to use poisons, ala Batman #1.

And to answer the post, the articles in the newspaper HEAVILY point toward psycosis and insanity being a side effect of the fear gas; so, yeah, definately!

And sglass03, I think that he'll be pushed so far over the deep-end that the fear toxin no longer works on him.

in the gotham times they talked about how the chemicals in the water are making people go insane, i think it could be assumed that this affected Joker, but i dont think we need a monologue from Joker to Batman explaining his tragic past. I dont think we will get a secure origin story, like it should be, i would hate for him to have a definite past. one of the big things i didnt like about Jack's Joker, that and the fact that he killed Bruce's parents.

You Know,That reminds me of one of the novels.Forgive me for not remembering which one it was,but I distinctly remember The Joker getting sprayed by Cranes Fear Toxin,and Joker looks at him,and just smiles,showing that it had no effect on him at all.Sorry,just reminded me of that.

In the beginning of the Dark Knight, I'm hoping there would be a sort of gap-filler for Begins and DK--an origin story for the Joker. I know how a lot of people here at SHH don't want a flashback of the Joker's past, but if Nolan made a Batman origin story, I think he'd make one for his archnemesis as well.

I think that we might get something either with the Anime DVD, or the viral marketing. The newspaper is filling in the gaps post-Batman Begins about some of the minor characters and some of the incidents.

It's possible we may get some sort of another "publication" detailing the Joker? Another issue of the Times or a magazine of some sort??

That would be interesting indeed to learn more of Scarecrow/Joker link in the anime tie-in DVD! But thinking about it, Joker will be quite scary with the fear gas effect, but I think he will be scarier in natural mode than in fear gas!!!!! Meaning he will be an incredible character and a challenge to the incredible characters who are Batman, Alfred, Harvey Dent and Lt. Gordon!

Nolan is not ditching the idea. If you read the Gotham Times then you will see that the Fear Gas incident from the end of Batman Begins is still a massive problem for the people of Gotham, and many people are still terrified of what the lasting effects of the gas may be.

That was amazing. I don't want TDK or "real" movies to be like that, but that is great. It's perfect for the story.

In response to the thread: I think it's great that a whole lot of people have gone insane due to the Fear Gas, but I don't want it to say if Joker was cause by the gas or not. Maybe it was only a part of Joker being the Joker. I'm hoping that it does show a Knightfall-like scene where he laughs off the Fear Gas though. That'd be dominant.
