Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

I applaud the guy who puts Cameron Monaghan on pics like these. Not a lot of Batman fans would.

Doesn't change the fact that Jordan's performance in Black Panther wasn't Oscar (nomination) worthy. Martin Freeman's wasn't, as well, so relax.
I don't disagree about Jordan. But you're being dismissive of a very real issue as a means to make your point.

The award for best actor, best actress, best supporting actor, and best supporting actress have been awarded a combined 349 times. Of those 349 winners, only 14 have been black. If you cant recognize how disproportionate that is, then you're being willfully ignorant to the reality of the hurdles black actors have to navigate which white actors do not.

How many of those 349 winners were from decades past though? Despite what some say, things are not as bad as they once were. We still have a ways to go for better equality but some people exaggerate when it comes to "hurdles" today in the entertainment industry.

I'm not. I'm just saying that there's no point in bringing it up when we're talking about Jordan. Look for a topic where it's appropriate and we're talking about a black actor who was truly robbed of an Oscar.

Finally got back from the movie. Props to WB for making this movie. Its the least studio film I've seen in long while. Not sure where to start but I'll start with my gripes just because all my positives are things y'all already heard which are: Great performance, great score, great cinematography.

The pacing seemed little off or fast to me. People kept saying that this was slow burn but it really wasn't imo. Sometimes it would feel certain shots should've lingered on further. As a guy who read the script, I noticed a lot of cut material and things that were just different. So I kinda go back and forth whether all the changes were necessary. As far as violence and the controversial elements go, everyone has painted this movie as some ****ed up , macabre dangerous movie and its really not lol.

Anyways I can answer any questions if anyones interested.

Yes, Orb. I do have a question. Having seen the movie, what have they cut and changed from the draft you've read?

I liked it... I think. It's a lot to take in and I would agree that it's a film you see once and might not have a big desire to see it again.

There's no real reason why it was called Joker, at least in my opinion. I knew going in that it would sorta be that way, but still.

What the hell does that even mean

No, I absolutely loved it. It's the best DC movie since BB.

DC has had some ups and downs for me, but this one really knocked it out of the park. I haven't been this jazzed leaving a CBM since BB. I'm shocked by how much it worked for me.

There was only one part that I hated, and it was a music choice Todd Phillips made, and it really messed up that scene, but other than that, the movie is f'n brilliant. Loved it!

Alright so:

Zazie Beetz's character was completely rewritten. Arthur mistakenly thinks Sophie likes him but Sophie only acts kind to him out of pity. They have a whole conversation at the restaurant about the city and Thomas Wayne. In the end Arthur cusses out Sophie after finding her sleeping with another guy. Once becoming Joker , he leaves flowers at her door (which you can see in the trailers). Sophie watched Joker on TV and is terrified by what he does.
-certain scenes got switched over around in the structure (this was improved imo)
- Arthur has faint facial scars throughout the film, part of his childhood story where he cut his face.
- Certain scenes like Randall confronting Arthur right after the scene at the locker room was cut. This is where he tells people have started wearing those clown masks everywhere
-Arthur tries to get Thomas' attention outside Wayne Enterprise with a letter (set pics available so they indeed shot that scene)
-Arthur has a cat he talks to in the script. In the end when he puts on the make up he lets the cat go free and we find out the cat wasn't real. A symbolic way of showing Arthur letting go of his innocence before becoming Joker
-The two detectives visit Arthur at his mother's funeral, questioning about the murder and paying respect to his mother. (you can see this scene in the trailer and set pics)
-A lot of dialogue was cut down but there some remnants left in the film that called back to those cut dialogue. An example being when Joker says "They don't expect us to go werewolf!". Earlier in the script, he has a conversation with his mother about her declining mental health and calls her a werewolf.
-there is no clown crowd at the end, once the cop car flips over, Joker gets out on his own, and craves a smile on his face with the piece of broken glass (ala Ledger), we know they shot this scene as there set pics.
-At the end, Arthur is bald and has a scarred smile. He shows his journal to the doctor but it is empty.

Thought Joker was pretty good.
It wears it's influences on it's sleeve. It's very much Taxi Driver with a splash of King of Comedy. While those are very good movies to copy from, it kinda could've used a bit of it's own "flair"
But Phoenix was fantastic, cinematography was gorgeous. This year has had some great shots, I mean so does everywhere but still. The score was actually the first one in a long time where I actually noticed how good it was.
But yeah it was cool. Nothing crazy, but good. They almost had a perfect ending shot of the movie, but they screwed it up the cowards.

I don't care about the RT score much, but I'm very surprised it's going this low

I certainly wasn't expecting the RT score to be this low. I find it almost shocking actually. Without reading too much in depth in order to avoid spoilers, what is the problem critics are having with it?

Many of them find the movie problematic or don't like the nihilism the movie has as message. Some of them just really think the movie is too miserable and bleak.

What's funny tho, is that this movie has a lot of 5/5. Maybe 40 or 60. And a LOT of 4.5/5

When in the history of the academy awards there has been a single Black woman to win a best actress Oscar, I don't think anyone can claim the hurdles are exaggerated. But go on and feel good about yourself for recognizing there are still "a ways to go" while in the very same sentence minimizing the struggle Black actors have already endured and continue having to endure.

I don't want to be rude here but, maybe you two can discuss this in another thread?

Halle Berry for Monster's Ball in 2001.

You can call it minimizing but things are in fact not as bad as they once were. I think the real struggle in Hollywood is with Asians. Way more of them don't get leading roles or big director gigs but they're not in the spotlight at the moment for the "woke" types.

I'm dropping it.
