Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

With this also being one of the most profitbale movies in history, there will be major major changes with CBMs going forward if this wins BP.

It won't however.

But hopefully it opens the door for more of these one-off character study type films, at least with villains. Hell, if it puts that Gareth Evans Deathstroke film back on the table, I'd love that too.

I wake up 6 hours later and Greta Gerwig is still trending? The outrage seems more pointed at Phillips than anything.

lead actor & score are booked, huge chance for cinematography ,gonna be hard to beat 1917,that film look flawless too

I expect Phoenix to win best actor at the Oscar and even those that hated or didn't care for Joker movie will begrudgingly accept that Phoenix's performance in the movie was great if he wins.

But if Joker wins Best Picture or Phillips win Best Director then film Twitter will have a massive meltdown. They will claim that misogyny was reason the Little Women didn't win for Best picture. They already accusing the Academy Awards of sexism because Greta Gerwig didn't get nominated for best Director.

So Hildur is favourite to be the first woman to win best score (or very rare) and we have an Asian/Korean film in BP and an Asian international director in the best director category but let's outrage about Greta who was nominated 2 years ago and a few other snubs based on gender and color.

They should seriously investigate the voting behaviour of all races and gender in the voter demo and see if it backs up their claims, and if there's discrepancy maybe look at changing up the voter demo? like, more Asians in there please, mainstream media/social media just don't care about us mostly e.g. #oscarsowhite hey let's make fun of Asians.?

Like how Chris Rock made jokes about how white the Oscars were, and then made racist jokes about Asians?

Because that totally makes you look like you actually give a damn about equal representation or diversity....

and 11 noms is incredible, best actor and score win and a few tech wins accompanied by the key category noms already would be amazing

Ya I flipped at that actually, it's like diversity is black and white, latino/asians/indians can just be there to make up the numbers so you can parade about how progressive you are

and I don't think there is any homosexual nominees is there? no headlines about it or no importance put on it, time to outrage again =P

Not unless you count Elton John for Best Original Song. Taron didn't even make the cut for playing a gay man.

According to Twitter, I guess I should be boycotting or something.

Phoenix better watch out, Leto is coming after him with Morbius. 11? Morbius will have 12 NOMINATIONS!

:o

Joker getting 11 nominations makes me feel more skeptical about the prospects of sequel-izing this movie. There's no getting around the fact that it's been received as a prestige film. A sequel risks both cheapening this film, and the more awards recognition Joker gets, it just increases the chances that a sequel would end up coming up short (or being perceived that way).

I'm open to the idea of seeing a totally different Joker origin story in another Phillips/Joaquin movie, but I just don't care to see any more of Arthur Fleck. And I can't shake the thought that simply walking away would probably be the best move for preserving this film's legacy.

I can definitely see where you are coming from tbh. Didn't Philips say that'd explore alternate stories in a sequel if possible or something? Id imagine itd be a different type of origin or something each time. Either way, I think a sequel is inevitable but there is most certainly a risk there. I view this film as the movie version of a "The Killing Joke" type of story for the joker.

That's actually worth a snub headline but nah.

WB should convince them to forfeit a few categories so they can make a sequel then

=P

In my opinion, they’ve got 3 routes they could go:

1. “The Clown Prince” - Joker rises up the ranks of Gotham’s criminal underworld. Perhaps Joker is released from Arkham and we see things from the POV of Johnny Frost.

2. “Mad Love” - The animated Mad Love storyline would provide an excellent foundation for a movie. I’d love to see that universe’s Harley Quinn.

3. “Arkham Asylum” - “Joker” was to “Taxi Driver” what this movie would be to “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”.
