Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

You never disappoint my man. This is a great shot.

Omg do I love this

the Joker shouldn't have an origin and he is a force of nature absolutely, BUT this is an origin story in the same way Killing Joke is an origin story. This is one of the many ways Joker could have become what he is and this just adds to that. That's one of the reasons i think this film is gonna work so well
I tend not to get bogged down anymore on the shoulds and shouldn'ts of adaptations. I just want smart and entertaining interpretations of the characters I love. I mean this film will not change the history of the character, only enhance it should all go well. There's so many variations of the Joker on paper and film so this is just another one.

I couldn't care less about box office and how the general audience receives it because I do believe this is a one and done type deal and that's fine with me.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but the thing with Joker and his mother reminds me a lot of the Penguin/mother dynamic in Gotham.

Guys, it's an Elseworlds film. Just let it be that. The DCEU is clearly going into a more traditional direction, so let the films outside of that universe do their own thing. Abiding by the comics defeats the point.
Indeed

I do wish they had done something different with the hair at least its Ledger like imo. But the more I think about the more I really can’t wait to see what else they got going on in this. It’s good for such a smaller more intimate film to be released as that is how cbms continue to thrive. Hell my brother, who’s no comic reader, said he wanted to see something like this for Harley Quinn back when he first saw Suicide Squad. I’m sure he’s gonna love this.

I agree. I take this as a one off as I did when the Killing Joke first came to my local comic shelf.

Holy **** that was....wow

He has the mannerisms the laugh the mentality the suit this could be the best joker on screen yet

So why can’t I shake the fact I hate the make up. I just wish he had the classic look and it would be perfect

Storyline wise it’s an unique take on joker and I’m very interested just still not sure about it being a solo entry even with the connection to Gotham and Arkham

Though the guy on the new talking about a mask, I’m pretty sure it’s not joker he’s talking about

I think this will be like the joker graphic novel where they hint at bats or he shows up right at the very end

This will be a one and done. No sequel likely to happen. But I am excited about the implications of Joker if it does well. Meaning we will see more standalone, low budget solo movies that can afford to take risks. I’m dying for a movie about The Question.

i want Luthor film in the same vein as Joker

This, this, and this! Completely agreed. All i want is a damn good film, tbh, and I think we are gonna get just that.

The movie looks like it could be pretty good.

I think this treatment (on the big screen at least) can work with only so many characters. Joker is one.

Whatever about Joker appearing in a film without Batman as a foil, it would want to be a very very special film to focus on Luthor without Superman.

While it's too early to tell what their intentions might be, I really hope DC commits to breaking away from the cinematic universe approach and they decide to carve their own path. If feels like they are and I just want them to commit to it more so.

Comic books are kind of split two ways...between the really involved, interconnected continuity aspect of serialized fiction and the more sporadic, mosaic-like approach of isolated graphic novels, mini-series, one shots and single issue sorts of things.

And I think therein resides where Marvel and DC's intentions on film can find an equilibrium and harmony with one another.

If Marvel is the ongoing continuity and spectacle of comics brought to life...DC can find some real potential in embracing the mindset of creator-driven, contained stories. The Elseworlds stuff, the multiverse stuff...they could really lay into all of that and find their confidence and their footing in a way that's different from Marvel and yet equal to Marvel.

If Marvel is zigging the way it's zigging, and it's working for them, then DC should go for broke and ZAG.

That would be awesome.

I hope they do. I think they will.

Imagine it. Imagine if we never really needed to resort to introducing or having origin stories for Superman and Batman again and instead, the priorities of movies were to just tell compelling stories...different kinds of stories, different reflections and permutations of Batman or Superman or whoever.

If they just let audiences dive into them.

That'd be amazing!

They are not moving away from shared universe but they will be making standalone, DC elseworlds movies.

If this works, there's really no reason WB can't have a DC cinematic universe and make some smaller, character driven films.
