"The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached?

Mike Tyson can play one of young 80's Joker's henchmen.

I see how this Elseworld line would be tempting for a movie studio.

Instead of an Affleck or Garfield situation, you can make a one-off movie with an established actor or use it as a farm system to introduce a young actor without having to worry about a trilogy.

Plus higher caliber directors or not forcing a Josh Trank situation on a property with lots of money on the line.

So, they're pretty much doing their version of Elseworlds.

This to me shows that WB have either never really cared about having a cohesive movie universe or are slowly abandoning the one they currently have. Elseworlds stories makes no sense on film because the audience is not going to to care for the same characters portrayed by different people concurrently. The audience can't invest in a character if there's multiple versions of it.

Flashpoint was the first indication that they're slowly backing away from the DCEU, and this is the second.

I say make it like Francesco Francavilla's Batman 1972.

Jesus Christ...

In a perfect world, they take a note from Azzarello's Joker one shot, but this is coming from a terrible place. I have a feeling this is their solution to a new Batman and Joker, but usually solutions are good ideas.

Scorsese is involved. Can't be mad at it

EDIT: Just read Scorsese is just producing. Todd Phillips directing. Never mind.

I'd say Affleck's odds of being in Reeves' film have just plummet also on the back of this news.

I thought it seemed clear from the article that the DCEU is still happening and these Elseworld movies are just smaller stand alone movies that don't effect the continuity of the DCEU. But if they do a big Elseworlds movie, I hope its the New Frontier.

Nothing about this is appealing to me. DCEU just keeps throwing movies at a wall and seeing what sticks. No plan, just money grabs.

So what movie is getting delayed to make room for this? Superman? Flash? GL?

I think the writing's been on the wall for that one ever since Reeves confirmed he had ideas for a Batman trilogy. I don't see Affleck signing on for three more films. However, this news makes me think Reeves may be going back in time with his Batman film/s instead of sticking with the contemporary timeline.

But you know what? **** it. I'm a little excited for this. I love The Joker, and anything that could get the taste of Leto's **** portrayal out of my mouth is welcomed with open arms.

Yep, there's no heart in this series. You can claim all you want Marvels films are formulaic, vanilla, light, whatever, but you can't say they don't have the desire to do what's right for their entire universe. The only WB film that has the same level of heart to it is WW.

I'm... intrigued. That's all I can say for now.

There's really not much else to say.

Seeing as how there are pretty much no details, all the whining about this is ridiculous.

Of all the villains who warrant a solo film, The Joker is right there at the top.

And Elseworlds, if that's what this is, would absolutely set the DCEU apart from other superhero universes. Could be an Earth 2 scenario, could be some kind of reboot, there are all kinds of possibilities.

I kinda feel like this whole thing has just a really sour taste in my mouth for the DC universe in general, not just on film. We really need a third competitor in the superhero film universe.

I think a second competitor needs to step up first at least quality wise.

Fox kinda sorta counts. Maybe.

Right, but branching out and doing things outside of the DCEU isn't a good look particularly when they have close to twenty DCEU films in development. As it's been noted by me and countless others, they're just throwing **** at the wall to see what sticks. I've said this for quite some time and it appears that I'm just going to keep saying it.

That's a downer. Even though I'm not a fan of the idea of a Joker solo, Scorsese directing would certainly get my attention.

FOX is the redheaded step father (only reason I dont say child is because it's older) which is weird because I think in my and many people's eyes they've released some of the best SH movies in recent memory (Deadpool and Logan)

THR said WB is creating another DC label. Separate from their mainline DCEU where they can make movies like this one and perhaps Red Son

Works in animation but will sound like a cluster**** to casuals
