Django Unchained.

You need to have someone who can pull off that combination of " absolutely despicable/disgusting " and " entertaining/hilarious " .

that movie should've ended when
Leo got killed

The Joker's action's are what make him despicable, not his personality. I don't agree with you on that at all. I think you need an actor who can be charmingly deranged but can also instill fear. I don't think Leo can do that convincingly at all.

In Django he was just an unlikable prick and ya, he owns that.

tbh Leo can be great Two Face but Joker? i don't see it.

Because he's one of the best film actors working today? Certainly head and shoulders over Leto. Or maybe you've only seen Titanic? If so, watch him in Shutter Island, Django, Revenant, Wolf Wall Street... the list goes on.

It'd be a dream for me if Leo was cast opposite Affleck in a soft rebooted The Batman. One continuity, and Leto's awful juggalo Joker done away with.

I think he's definitely the most overrated actor working today who has more of a knack for picking good films to be apart of rather than pulling off consistently great performances.
Shutter Island just solidified that no male actor can cry like he can on screen. He might be second only to Hugh Jackman.
Django and Wolf only proves that he excels at playing pricks and I still can't believe he won the Oscar for the Revenant. He overacted the crap out of this movie and came off unconvincing in this role. I still believe he got that award out of pity. It was the wrong role for him to get that undeserving win in my opinion. You listed the wrong movies to prove your point in my eyes.

Your second comment just sounds like an absolute nightmare.

but hey, The Dark Knight happened so who knows?

Getting an actor of Leo's caliber to helm a superhero film is certainly interesting in and of itself, but.... I can't say I'm excited to see Leo as the Joker.

it's sad i will never see Daniel Day-Lewis or Willem Dafoe as Joker but it is what it is.

Got to give DiCaprio a bit more credit. He's an awesome actor and I think I would have had a harder time imagining Heath (also already a proven actor by that time) as Joker than Leo. Of course he doesn't look anything like or resemble Joker in any way but he's one of the very best actors around nowadays.

Oh, it'll never happen. No way he's going to step into the **** show that WB are putting on at the moment.

He definitely isn't, and I think it's telling that WB is entertaining the idea.

Guys... you already have one academy award winner playing the Joker. What are we doing here folks?

If they wanted to give Leto another shot in an actual coherent movie where he didn't look like a juggalo, I'd be interested. The guy is a good actor and has the perfect bone structure to do it.

:whatever:

DeCaprio has more than proven himself as a quality actor.

He'd likely do an excellent job with this role, especially if it was tailored to his strengths a bit.

I wouldn't shed any tears if we said bye-bye to Leto and his tattooed, blinged-up Joker.

He accepted the role of course after seeing what the material was, but don't you think he could do a lot better if he were given a part like Heath was?

A knack for picking good films, yes. I have a similar talent. I'm handpicking exclusively leading main character roles from Nolan, Scorsese and co for myself. Just waiting for all those job offers to come through the door, any moment now!

Hell no to Leo as Joker. He's great and all, but There's quite a few options out there.

Give me Gaspard Ulliel!

...actually, I'd imagine if there is any truth to the rumour that Leo is linked to playing a version of The Joker, I'd say one of the first calls he'd be making would be to Nolan. Who better to talk to about it than a man you've worked with, and who created the best on screen version of the character? ****, if there's any truth to Scorcese's involvement, he'd probably do the same thing too. They have a lot of mutual respect for one another.

...this spitballing is all just part of my idiotic and nonsensical wishful thinking that at some stage Nolan will come back in flying a golden spitfire, and sort all of this ****ing mess out.

Why would you want Nolan to waste his time working on more comic book movies? He already left his mark on the genre.

Yes but not a consistent one. He rarely disappears into a role unless it suits him and if they have to tailor the Joker to play to Dicaprio's strengths, that's just like saying he doesn't have the ability to do it on his own.

Heath brought something to the role and got lost in it completely. Dicaprio could never do this and the closest he's come is in Gilbert Grape, Blood Diamond and Body of Lies.

Geez, whoever would have foreseen Leto not being happy at the idea of having to share The Joker.......

Very few people have the cartoonish proportions of the comic illustrations. Me, I couldn't care less if the actor isn't anorexic with a super-long chin and pointy nose. Maybe it's due to growing up with Nicholson's Joker that I don't have certain expectations about the actor's appearance.

Yeah, I value the ability of the actor (and Leo is up there with the best) over having coincidental Joker facial proportions. One can be fixed while the other can't. But I wouldn't be too quick to drop Leto just yet (although they need to give him the material he and the character deserves).

Not really complaining, but it's legit nuts that ever since Ledger the studio is dead set on casting dreamboat guys to play a hideous creepy man, hehe.
