The Kick-Ass Thread - Part 1

On one hand, his name being Frank D'Amico and not John Genovese didn't exactly ruin things, but why not just call him that?

Because at the time they were writing the script for the movie the villain in the comic didn't have a name, so they picked a random one.

Why did Kick-Ass have to get the girl?

So that the movie can end on a happy and uplifting note and be considered an overall enjoyable experience? That's kind of hard to do when your "hero" gets his ass kicked by some random kid and ends up jerking off to a picture of his dream girl giving that same guy a BJ.

Yeah, I know. I was asking why they did that.

It's ok to have the dude get stabbed, be in a back alley sex scene and have the girl drop the C-bomb, but apparantly it's not ok for him to not get the girl.

Yeah, call me Winona Ryder because I am not buying that.

I don't see how it mattered either way, really.

Yeah, I know. I was asking why they did that.

Because you got heroes like Batman and Spidey who could arguebly be eternal virgins (this is a joke) so Matthew Vaughn decided to have over the top sex scene to show how wild it is for Kick-Ass unlike all other movie heroes who while doing all her work, never really get *the* girl.

it's an arc. He starts as a kid in wet suit trying to fight crime and failing miserably at it and end up as a real hero, saving the day and getting the girl. He starts low and ends high.

It's a pretty simple concept really.

Yeah, but it worked fine as it was.

Who did they change it for? Girls?

Yeah, but it worked fine as it was.

What works in the comic doesn't always work in the movie and the other way around. The comic was far meaner to its characters and the ending was a perfect example of that.

Ending such a rollercoaster ride of a movie with a complete downer would hardly classify as "working". Who did they change it for? Normal people. People who wanted the hero they rooted for the entire movie to not end up jerking off and crying like a little girl. Yeah, the concept probably seems ludicrous to you but for normal people it makes sense.

^I personally loved the way they did it in the movie, much preferred how they did it in comic which seemed much to extreme.

Some mixed signals to say the least:

JANE GOLDMAN DENIES RUMORS ABOUT WRITING KICK-ASS 2, SAYS SHE AND VAUGHN WILL DO A MOVIE AFTER X-MEN, UNLIKELY THAT IT WILL BE KICK-ASS 2

MARK MILLAR SAYS THEY ARE DOING SEQUEL VERY SOON BECAUSE OF CHLOE MORETZ'S AGE AND IS REGULARLY TALKING TO VAUGHN ABOUT DOING IT AFTER X-MEN
http://www.digitalspy.com/comics/news/a301031/millar-kick-ass-2-to-start-soon.html

Now, they both cannot be right. I put more credence in what Jane Goldman, the potential screenwriter, says than Mark Millar. However, if they do make a sequel what Millar says makes sense. For at least the second film, they have to move pretty quickly before the actors get too old.

If this doesn't happen I will be severely disappointed. I am far more excited about seeing KA2 than any other comic book movie, least of all another X-Men movie. Even a sequel to The Dark Knight is...still a sequel to TDK which will be hard to top (as well as the seventh to ninth theatrical Batman movie, depending on how you look at it). With KA there are countless possibilities for how Vaughn could go, which makes it very fresh and exciting. Plus it is almost a given his movie would be better than whatever Mark Millar writes (if he ever gets around to finishing the second issue).

Very disappointing.

Mark Millar is full of crap. I like the guy, but he talks out of his ass more than Ace Ventura.

LOL. So true.

The fact of the matter is this: the fate of the sequel is in Vaughn's hands and he's way too busy with first class at the moment. Once that will be out of the way we'll know for sure.

He did say the chances of doing a sequel were 50:50 and it depended on how well it would do on DVD/blu-ray (where it ended up KICKING ASS) but for now all we got is speculation and neither Goldman nor Millar know for sure since probably Vaughn himself doesn't know for sure as he didn't have time to think about it.

I loved Kick-Ass and I do hope they'll do the sequel next before chloe moretz grows too old.

Is there something wrong with me if after watching Hit Girl kill like 10 guys, my reaction was "Aaaawwwww... :O"?

Loved the film and I also loved the comic and didn't mind the changes.
Even though I loved the twist from the comic and Big Daddy’s motive was very unique in the book. As a huge comic book fan I had an awesome time with this film especially all the in jokes and satire. A perfect entertaining film in my eyes. The action was insane, it was politically incorrect and the soundtrack was fantastic what's not to love? Kick Ass is already one of my favourite films and easily one of the ten best comic books movies ever produced.

Bring on the sequel.

Re-watched it over the weekend and still love it as much as my first viewing. The movies got a perfect mixture of heart, comedy, violence, and etc for me.

If they make a second one great, if not I'm ok with leaving it as a stand alone. Also caught Let Me In and Chloe owned the role too.

I like it as a standalone right now... but I see how they can do a lot with a second movie. I just hope they do it well & commit if they do it.

Same.

The writing has been on the wall, and now it’s pretty much confirmed. Kick-Ass 2 isn’t happening.

The news of the promised sequel’s dissolution comes from Jane Goldman who adapted the Mark Millar comic for the first film. Talking to Absolute Radio she says, “I don't think it's going to happen. At the moment it's not in the works. We're all doing different things at the moment. We would love to do it again, but we've all been pulled in different directions.”

This has been coming for awhile. Back in January we learned that they hadn’t even started work on Kick-Ass 2, and that director Matthew Vaughn was doing something else first. Now it seems it’s not so much that he’s doing something else first, as he’s probably not doing Kick-Ass 2 at all.

During the course of the interview, Goldman tries to leave some room for hope. She insists that they just want to make sure the story is right before they do anything with it, but if you pay attention to movie news with regularity, then you know that’s the sort of thing someone says when they don’t plan on doing something but don’t want to piss off its fans. Cross Kick-Ass 2 off your checklist.

No big shock.. or disappointment.

kick-ass 1 was awesome. if we get a sequel cool...but no big daddy...the whole big daddy dying scene made the first movie

Picked up issue 2 today. I gotta say despite the long wait it was worth it. They covered a lot more than the first issue, and it didn't really feel rushed. JRJR's work is excellent as always.

No big shock, but a true disappointment. I really saw a nice developing story for Kick-Ass 2 with Chris pulling them out of retirement, Dave being unmasked, etc. It also set up for a "10 Years Later...." type of threequel.

Too bad. Looks like we're stuck with Mark Millar's vision of a sequel. *Sigh*

P.S. If Vaughn gave up KA2 to make "The Golden Age," then that sucks. I doubt anybody wants to see Red with superheroes as opposed to Hit-Girl's triumphant return. Oh well.

I'm not surprised either, but still a little disappointed. It seemed like there was a lot of story/character potential there.
