Sony Interactive Entertainment’s E3 2018 showcase will take place on Monday, June 11 at 6:00 p.m. PT, SIE Worldwide Studios chairman Shawn Layden confirmed on the latest PlayStation Blogcast. It will be live streamed on services such as Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook.

This year’s showcase will feature “deep dives” into four upcoming titles from Sony Interactive Entertainment: Death Stranding by Kojima Productions, Ghost of Tsushima by Sucker Punch Productions, Marvel’s Spider-Man by Insomniac Games, and The Last of Us Part II by Naughty Dog.

“The last two or three years, if you were a careful observor, you’ll see that we continue to try to refresh and remake and reignite what we do at what used to be called the press conference for E3,” Layden said on the PlayStation Blogcast. “We want to make sure that it’s fresh and that it reflects the kind of stories we’re telling and the new entertainment we have to give to our fans—not just at the event, but worldwide through the live stream.

“So today I would just like to talk about helping people understand where we’re going with the E3 event this year, and I’ll just come right out and say it. E3 this year will feature exclusive looks and deep dives on four upcoming titles—four of our big titles… We have great content. We have fantastic updates. I think everyone will be thrilled to see it. And we’re taking kind of a different angle on how we’re bringing it out.
“And just as a reminder, those titles are going to be Death Stranding from Kojima Productions—we’ve got a complete new report for everybody around what’s happening with that title. A year ago we introduced the new Sucker Punch title, Ghost of Tsushima, so we’re going to go a deep dive into where the team is at on that—it’s going to be fabulous. From Sucker Punch and their great successes with the inFAMOUS franchise, for them to take on Ghost and all the ambition around that, you will not be disappointed when you see it.

“Of course, there’s our partnership with Insomniac Games and their title Marvel’s Spider-Man. You’ll have seen some of that coverage recently, but we’re going to have a new drop for everybody at E3, at the media event, and you’ll be blown away, it’s going to be awesome… The fab four of the event that we’re going to be having is of course going to be the sequel to The Last of Us from Naughty Dog, we’ll have a full new scope of treatment on that, show you the progress of the game, give people a better understanding of where we’re going with Part II. We’re really excited about it, it’s going to be a very strong centerpiece to all of those four titles we were just talking about.”

Asked if that is all we are going to see, Layden replied, “No, there will be others. We’ll have some announcements with our third-party publishing partners, we’ll have some news things to talk about there, as well as you know, our continued support for independent development—we’ll throw some highlight of that. But as chairman of Worldwide Studios, please forgive me if I take this mic moment so I can generate even greater excitement to look forward to E3.”

I think we’re finally going to get some good in depth stuff about this at E3 on Monday. It’s been what two years since they announced this, hopefully some story details, gameplay footage.

Love the new gameplay trailer. I don't play a whole lot of games, but this is by far the one I am most excited about.

Beautiful cinematic, and beautiful and brutal gmeplay. Looking amazing.

It just looks so good. Like everything good from TLoU and UC4/Lost Legacy put together. :woot:

Pretty much. I feel like UC4 was that mix of Uncharted 2/TLOU. And now this looks like it’s taking it even further. I still need to get on Lost Legacy.

This game looks intense, and the direction is pitch perfect. The gameplay had a more organic sense, compared to the first title. Me likey

So that intro was like from an alternative timeline where Ellie has a normal life? did I get that right?

Nah, I think it's supposed to take place in the shelter Tommy lives in. The other guy who approached her mentioned her "old man" which I'm pretty sure in that context is supposed to be Joel.

TLOU was the best game of the previous generation, and I’m pretty convinced that the sequel will be the same for this gen.

Hollywood could learn a great deal from Naughty Dog about storytelling. You only need to see how influential TLOU has been on the movie industry (Logan, for one example) to see just how damn good the narrative and characterisations in that game are.

It’s the best post apocalyptic story of the last twenty years in my opinion, and I can’t wait to play the new game.

Not going to give it awards before I experience the actual thing. Presentation-wise it looks absolutely incredible. Naturalism, fluidity of action is stunning. It smokes everything we saw before. Some bits of the latest trailer felt staged, like, for example, the trio of the Seraphites dramatically lining up in front of the building before entering.

Actually the second trailer gave me hope the game will be more than Ellie fan service. Because she was nowhere to be seen. The first game was more than Ellie and Joel, despite both having exquisite (especially for games) character development. The third one was pretty much what public wanted - Ellie action. But I personally want a good story in the first place, regardless of how much Ellie or Joel is there. Or if there are clickers or not.

I think that narratively, continuing with Ellie as the lead was the juiciest direction. I don't see anything cheap of fan-servicy about placing the spotlight on her. And the fact that we've barely seen Joel for now shows that Naughty Dog has the restraint to not make it about fan service. Or maybe not "restraint", more like they are just interested in what makes a good story

They turned The Last of Us into Ellie and Joel saga, so there's no turning back (not like they had a choice after the following that game received). I didn't feel that their story needs a continuation. The ending was perfect. But there are many films or games, when I wished they never got a sequel.

Still, given what we have, I'm optimistic about Part II.

I'm of the same line of thinking. It didn't need a sequel and I had my closure with its ending.
I'd rather have had ND doing a new IP, but they insisted on TLOU. Oh well, it looks great, will certainly be a good game and I'll be playing it once it comes out.

How did they turn The Last of Us into a Joel and Ellie saga when thats how it started? Its not like the universe and franchise existed before them. With that said, I definitely think they could have done a sequel without either one. I wish they had
