The Last of Us The Last Of Us 2

Some people will miss a fantastic game and story. Gut feeling.

Or maybe they just pretend they won't buy it.

I read the spoilers myself as well. Im trying to keep an open mind for the game itself because everybody is judging based on bullet points, but I do think the choices made in the game are extreme and points to something I always thought, which is the first game didnt need a sequel. I knew it would be difficult to make one that would live up to what the first game did. As hyped as I've been for Last of Us 2, it's not something I needed. Still much more looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077.

Or maybe they have the right to prepare for disappointment if it comes. Perhaps it might, and I do emphasize that word heavily, work within the full context of the game, but don't act like people can't have legitimate and constructive criticisms regarding these spoilers and deeming everyone a "hater" because of it.

Right now it doesn't look like preparation for possible disappointment. Only Gothamsknight showed levelheaded approach. Everyone else seem to knee-jerk hard on isolated plot points, that lack context. It's their right, sure, but to me it looks ridiculous... How fickle people can be without much reason.

from what I understand, there are actual leaks of cutscenes from the game that seem to support the "bullet-point" leaks. so I think that is lending more credence to the leaks, which is freaking more people out.

with that being said, it's always possible that the leaks (both written and video) will work better in context of the actual game.

and as I've said, I have no real interest or bias towards this game. but I can certainly understand how people who loved the story and characters in the 1st game would feel after hearing about these leaks.

I would certainly feel the same way if this happened to a property that I really cared about.

Troy Baker said a few weeks back for people to have an open mind. In other words, they knew ahead of time what they were doing was going to be divisive and create backlash. The problem is that's much easier to handle if no-one knows about it before hand. But this is now costing them sales.

I think this requires more than an open mind. This plot theyve chosen for LOU2 just sounds "nasty". The sort of thing that turns my stomach. The sort of thing I just dont feel comfortable experiencing. This is rare for me. I can think of only maybe two things in fictional stories in the past decade that have put me off like this.

Nasty is a good way to describe it. it strikes me as the same kind of fan subversion that ruined TLJ.

it's subversion for the sake of being "bold" and well, subversive. It could even be worse than what they did to TLJ, because here it seems they are literally forcing the players to accept the subversion in order to play the game. again, if the leaks are true.

however, what happened to TLJ bothers me more because I care about the SW property, whereas I'm neutral on TLOU. I only care about this TLOU2 situation because I know this is a major PS4 exclusive and one of the most anticipated titles this year.

not sure how hotly anticipated it is now, though........haha.

As I said earlier, I do not understand this mean spiritedness coming out of the entertainment industry. If I was creating a franchise in any medium, I would want people to love it. I would want them to love the characters and the world, be happy for them in times of joy, and in tears through moments of sadness. If I drag the characters through hell I'd want to eventually have the light come through at the end. People don't want misery.

So the game won't have likable characters, moments of joy and light come through at the end? Are we sure?

Would people flip so much if TLOU1 leaks had a few isolated scenes of the darkest/saddest moments?

Druckmann posted this in his instagram (damn, all that hate and trolling probably got through him):

You know full well there's a difference between a game no-one has seen before and a sequel of something beloved. Of course the response would be different.

People can't grasp the idea that there's more to the game than some isolated fragments?

To me it looks like people want to be angry about something just because. We all can agree Game of Thrones later seasons are trash. But we watched them and can have an informed opinion. But here? It's like a twilight zone.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but it's not peoples job to give a story the benefit of the doubt. The responsibility is on the creator to create something that draws people in. If the story was leaked and it was well received hype for the game would increase tenfold. Besides, the real issue isn't the story or the leak, it's why it was leaked in the first place.

That's not how you're supposed to experience the story. No story will look fine or interesting if you only know some of the major plot twists.

And now you're shifting the subject. It's actually not the game itself, but working conditions in ND. It just looks like you're trashing the game just to get to the developer. Not because the game or it's story is poorly done.

I'm sorry, but it's not the audiences job to automatically give the benefit of the doubt to an artist with or without leaks. And I'm not shifting anything. There's two issues that are at play here, the story which was clearly known long before would not please people, and the conditions in which it was created in. How much of those two issues overlap is anyone's guess.

I don't know what's the job of audiences, but I was probably mistaken expecting rational thinking.

In general, I'm wary of leaks. because on the internet, anyone can post anything and claim it's true. And in many cases, the leaks do turn out to be complete rubbish.

however, when multiple leaks start saying the same thing, or when other evidence starts to emerge that back up the leaks, then I start taking the leaks more seriously. I have been burned many times in the past when I've tried to give something (that I was massively hyped for) the benefit of the doubt, despite the mounting leaks. Then, the leaks proved correct and my worst fears were confirmed.

so, if you want to keep an open mind and still give the product a chance, that's fine. You are taking the glass-half-full approach.

however, if others want to lower their expectations and excitement for the product, or even decide to skip it and save their money, that's also reasonable. I don't blame them.

Know whats bothering me much more than the leaks? The fact that all these sites and youtubers are taking it as a political issue "against men".

It always sort of skews into the territory of "gender wars", representation, yada-yada. Overshadows the initial issues (imo, misguided, in this case) that people have with the leaks or the game. Right now all trolling posts are about how ugly the muscular woman is, while when the trailer 2 arrived with her rescued by the Asian siblings, nobody really cared. People were speculating she's Ellie's mom, lol. Certain people took over and now it's trans jokes or something else disgusting.

I'm keeping an open mind. It's a game that was made by people who made the first game (some of them left the studio, but whatever). I believe they deserve fair judgement when the game is out. Unlike Dark Fate or nu Star Wars, it has a chance to do it right when it comes to representation, homosexuality and other heavy topics. There's great ambition.

I will start by saying, I never played the first game. So these leaks don't effect me the same way I am sure you guys are effected. But, I also think context and seeing things for yourself is important in judging any form of art. Games, movies, whatever. Anything can sound good or bad on paper. But by that same token, I understand the opposite point of view.

That's my take anyway. I don't like when hyped things like this are spoiled for people. Sucks for the fans to have this happen.

just curious, but did the first game feature branching storyline paths or different endings based on your choices during the game?

if so, that's the type of context I could think of that could justify these leaks. maybe what was leaked was merely one possible storyline path or ending based on the player's choice.

The first game didn't feature any branching or alternative endings.

I'm not bothered about the leaks. As someone who only played the game last year and didn't think it was the greatest game ever - it was incredibly atmospheric though. I don't think I'm going to be disappointed. I thought the first game ended abruptly, like when I reached the end, I was like, thats it? So my eXpectations for this game is not really that high. Like I'll play it but it can wait.

Wow, any even hopeful/neutral opinions on the game are instantly jumped by troll kids, that patrol YT comment section.
