Horror 'The Last of Us' HBO Series

Honestly, I don't think it's that far-fetched that they were trying to lay out a cushion. But that is a solid comparison. I also think even the game feels very insecure around Abby in the second half, scared you're not going to like her, and this sort of evoked that to me though in a different way.
For me this was the clear reason why especially since it appears that scene is coming up fairly soon. I also feel the writers may be a bit more overt with Abby's regrets about her actions than in the game too for the same reason.

Catherine O'Hara keeps losing husbands left and right haha. I am curious about what the hell happened between Eugene and Joel.
We're likely to see it in a flashback since Joe Pantoliano is confirmed to be playing him. I'm guessing there was no real bad blood between the two otherwise Gail would have shown a lot more hostility towards Joel. They were probably on patrol together when Eugene got infected and Joel had no other choice but to kill him.
If I were to wager a guess (some minor game spoilers):
I think it's like you say, Driz, he got infected. However, it seemed like Joel and Ellie are in the same clothes as the "you promised" scene in photos that seem like they may be around it. Given Eugene used to be a Firefly at least in the game version, I'm thinking that might also be replacing the way she found out the truth in the game. Eugene putting something together before he has to be killed because of his infection, which leads to the fight. Maybe why they threw in the bit about people not being entirely sure what Joel's name is.

Good start of the season, but Bella Ramsey as Ellie just isn't it.

Not only she looks nothing like Ellie from the games, but she doesn't even get her mannerisms either. If anything, she comes off as an annoying angry boy.

I adore both games and have played them numerous times. The show nails every other aspect from them, except Ellie's casting.

Which is a shame, because this could've been a 10/10 video game adaptation.

P.S Isabela as Dina is great.
So just like the very tomboy coded Ellie.

As for the introducing of Abby and her motivations a bit early, I’m waiting to see how it plays out before I make any judgments. I have a feeling that when we look back on the entire season once it’s finished, the decision for its placement at the very opening will become clear and make sense.

Now those of you who've never played the games know the pain. :csad:

It still hit me harder in the game because of the shock of it all but Ellie being conscious at the end and hugging Joel's dead body twisted the knife that much more.

Wow, I wasn't expecting this scene to be this early. I thought they'd pull a twist and change things up.

I appreciate the extra time given to Ellie's reaction, even the ride back showing how distraught she is. Seems like the writers know we're waiting a week and wanted to give us more to marinate on rather than the hard cut in the game and basically right back into the action.

My god what an episode this was......

The first half with the infected horde assaulting the town was pretty EPIC and terrifying all at the same time but I also wasn't expecting them to kill off Joel this early.

Granted, I remember it being a lot more graphic in the game at least from the playthrough I saw all those years ago but Kaitlyn Dever's acting really sold the scene for me and Bella Ramsey's performance/reaction was just as heartbreaking IMO.

This show just won't be the same without Pedro but that man went out like a boss till they very end and I'm thankful he was able to leave such an impact in this role.

Well…they did it.

Keeping short.

Sold. Kaitlyn is Abby. Emmy.

Infected. Jackson. Attack. Damn.

R.I.P. Joel.

Ellie conscious. More emotionally devestated.

Ashley Johnson singing. Hurts even more. Heart shattered. Completely sobbing.

Well done, show. F**k you, show.

Can’t type more. Hurts too much. Need to process.

Excuse me. Need pillow. Crying again.

😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

The first two episodes have been great and the new cast really delivers. Like some others I thought they may alter things a bit to delay certain things but they went there right away and they made it hit hard. My expectations are now even higher that this season will make this story work better than it did in the game, as for me the ending fell flat because the gameplay before really clashed with the climax of the ending (at least how I play).

Oh man just watched it. I initially didn't like the decision to have Dina with Joel instead of Tommy but it works in the show and also gives Dina more motivation to want to hunt Abby and her crew down with Ellie. Tommy is Joel's brother he has all of the motivation he needs.. So it works in the show.

Kaitlyn might not be physically imposing like game Abby, but she killed it here, literally.. I hope the fans of the show are kinder to her than the fans of the game were to Laura Bailey.

I am really curious to see what the rest of this season covers in terms of Abby's story. But I am also really interested to see how Ellie's journey is adapted too. This season is fantastic so far.
