Horror 'The Last of Us' HBO Series

Super curious about the latter because it looks like maybe Ellie gets caught up in it? I mean I've been wrong with a million guesses, but the teaser sure makes it look like she ends up getting swept up in the assault and caught while looking for a boat. Curious if they have her meet Isaac or if he's off somewhere else in that footage.
Yeah, I'm not too sure what's going on there either. I suppose it's a more budget-conscious way of Ellie getting to Abby via boat compared to her traversing through the flooded areas of the city in the game.

Plenty of budget conscious to be seen. Bit of a shame since I think it's such a cool angle for the environment, but ultimately whatever. I assume the Seraphites aren't on an island here as a result, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how it's all laid out with what seems to be crossing over with Isaac's attack, being grabbed, all that.

Oh I hate that the budget is constantly where my mind goes but this is still the Zaslav regime, after all.

I'm guessing they're replacing the Seraphites/Wolves fight Ellie got into during the Flooded City section with a cheaper version.
That's most likely what's happening.

I think it's a fair place to go. Show's not cheap and that's even with cutting back on a lot of locations, action sequences, and more.

Judging by the preview for next week, we really needed to spend more time with Jesse considering he is very likely to die. There is a shot of him and Ellie running in the theatre.

The other thing I keep forgetting is they omitted some big sequences in the game in favor of the infected assault on Jackson in episode 2. Which, as big as it was was still probably logistically easier to pull off than the Hillcrest portion of the game.

I think that's the nuance with adaptations. The Jackson Siege made for good TV by making the town more alive or part of the world. I think the WLF Home Base/Stadium feels more wholly realized than Jackson in the game, which itself feels like any ol' town to put your boots down for awhile. That might have more to do with being on WLF's turf during the overarching conflict. Giving Jackson and the population more attention upfront in the show elevates its...stature and importance? This is a living breathing society that Joel and Ellie have dug in roots. There's fear, fight, and regret for Jackson in Joel's eyes when he's caught in Abby's snare. We also have Gail as a result, which has yielded a ton of heavy lifting in making some sense of the sprawling narrative of the game so it's doesn't feel like a fetchquest.

I don't know how much you narratively get by even doing Hillcrest, which makes for great gameplay, but doesn't do so much to advance the story. It's also been a few years since I played Ellie's section, so I hope it's not just recency bias. If anything this season, I'm not want for more action. I want more exploration that they seem so keen on doing.

Sidebar: It's interesting how Ellie's and Abby's narratives are so similar, if only inverse, at their beginnings in Part II (adoptee/orphan transplants taking us through their day exploring their home before we're thrust into their mission exploring the futility/unintended consequences of revenge).

Ok. Are we going to see the two most important characters in Abby’s arch in episode 7 or are they going to save them for season 3. Judging by the trailer I think we will get one of them. I believe they will save the other one for season 3.
If we see either of them, I'll eat a pair of socks.

I think Abby is only showing up for the last scene in the theater as the cliffhanger. Yara's already gone by then and we technically don't see Lev in Ellie's POV during that part at the end of Day 3 anyway, even though we know he's there with her.

Interesting you think Season 3 will be from Abby’s point of view directly after she kills Joel like the video game. That would mean we would get very little of Elle in season 3. I wouldn’t have a problem with that and judging by the trailer it might happen that way. Don’t spoil their names I don’t want the moderator to blur your response out.

I'm thinking that season 3 will be all Abby with very little Ellie. If they're going for four seasons we definitely won't see the epilogue in season 3. Originally I speculated that they might run both storylines at the same time in the show both to preserve some of the twists and so that Ellie isn't absent in the show for an extended period of time but I think Kaitlyn Dever is perfectly capable of carrying the show for a season.

I just saw the trailer for the season finale and it fits your theory to a tee. Although it does look like we will get the Owen, Mel, and Abby scout scene when they all seem to get along. The plot thickens.

Four years between Ellie's story beats?

I think whats left from the game is enough for a 10 episode run of season 3.

Doing a third season (season 4 overall) for the 2nd game set
in Santa Barbara and the farm where Dina/Ellie/the baby live
is just too much for me. They can easily dedicate a single 1 hour episode for those. I have expectations for the season 2 finale and I'm thinking they split the 2nd game for 2 seasons pretty good. There's no need for season 4 to adapt the last 2 hours of the 2nd game.

I agree since they were able to cover Ellie's Seattle portion in half that amount but if they're gunning for four seasons I'm assuming there's more world building that they want to cover that wasn't seen in the game that could both expand upon Abby's backstory as well as adding more to the epilogue section.

I have to assume if they're even hoping for more episodes that they want to do like a Tommy episode and like Isaac or the prophet or what have you. Abby's section is shorter than Ellie's, so it'd be weird for it alone to take up more screentime. Shame there wasn't more time this season to make the Seattle material feel less rushed. I'm hoping the more straight forward emotions of Abby's section might lead to a stronger season next time, though I wouldn't be surprised if they keep softening the edges.

Maybe they'll dedicate an episode to Lev and Yara's life on the island.

Maybe. The ways they've diverted from the game in their big POV switch episodes though seems to focus on characters dead and who won't get a big focus in the present time, so I'm inclined to believe a POV switch episode might go to Isaac, the prophet, or even something like the Martyr's Gate event. Think that last one could be really interesting.
