Horror 'The Last of Us' HBO Series

I'm worried after season 2. Abby's section needs to be a spot on translation.
I am as well. I didn’t like how they changed Elle’s story. They are going to have to nail Abby’s story. They have a good actress for Abby let’s not change her redemption. Unfortunately for season 2 compared to season 1 the game story was better then the show.

Some YouTube guy posted information on season 3. Looks promising. More Isaac, more about the WLF vs Sarraphites, a complete in-depth look at Abby, and more side stories. Filming begins at the beginning of 2026. Release in. 2027. Elle will be in season 3.

That's for the best. Go focus on making Part III the best game possible.

The studio is not working on Part III in any meaningful way as far as we know right now. It's all Intergalatic.

Somehow I don't think this decision will affect season 3 much.

Exactly. Perhaps that what he's moving towards now. I figure the major responsibilities for Intergalactic may mostly be finished.

I think Mazin was responsible for Ellie's poor characterisation in Season 2. I don't like him being solely responsible for season 3, which needs to be a banger after season 2 disappointed.

Well considering the best material from last season was when the writers of the game were involved, I'm actually pretty worried.
By that I meant even if Druckmann were involved in S3 there'd still be plenty of Mazin sloppiness anyway.

Who knows, maybe Mazin will have a better hold on writing Abby because he clearly had problems with having Ellie make the hard choices like she did in the game.

In any case, this seems like a sign that the show should wrap up the Part II adaptation with season 3.

If the budget allows it, they can cover Abby's three days in Seattle along with the Farm/California epilogue in 10 episodes. This is more so because a fourth season focusing on an expanded epilogue without Druckmann's involvement sounds like a terrible idea. If Druckmann was only sitting out for the third season and coming back once Intergalactic is done it'd be one thing but his statement makes it seem like he's walking away from the show entirely.

Yeah, with 2 out, I'm thinking HBO had..."concerns".

I hate to just baselessly speculate, because we have no inside information to draw any conclusions from, but to me it seems like Druckman and Gross would rather put their energy into projects that they have more creative control over than a show where they're basically work for hire. Druckman might've had more influence than Gross, but at the end of the day this is Mazin's show, and they're nothing more than players in his sandbox.

I won't speak for them as to their feelings on certain changes made in the adaptation process, but there were clearly issues in making Ellie's timeline fit in just seven episodes. With session three at least eighteen months away, and likely another eighteen until the story of Part II is completed, working on the show might end up feeling like a distraction that's not worth the mental real estate, when that time could be spent more productively on personal projects. Whether that's a potential Part III or something else, I don't blame them for leaving. It does, however, leave me less confident in the show.

I thought season one did a respectable job of adapting the game, but it's clear that the fragmented storytelling of Part II was too much of a challenge for the realities of TV production, and mistakes were made in deciding how to best allocate their limited time and budget. Did we really need the Jackson battle if it meant sacrificing Hillcrest and more time developing Jesse as a character? I can only hope that the relatively straightforward nature of Abby's section will lend itself more easily to the small screen.

The first game was better than the second game, so its not surprising that it has proven to be easier to adapt.

I actually think the second game is superior to the first in every aspect, and one of the best videogames ever made. But what I will give the first game is that it's much easier to adapt. It's a simple road trip story set in the post apocalyptic world about a grumpy old man still mourning the loss of his daughter, bonding with a young girl who becomes his surrogate daughter. It's a simple story and much easier to adapt than the second game which sees pretty much every character broken down to their worst human traits and where the 'good' guys are showing their bad sides and our 'villains' are showing their redeemable sides.

And this is exactly the reason why I think season three will fare much better than season two. That part of the story they’re adapting is much more in the vein of what the first game did and is a lot more straightforward. Also, Kaitlyn Dever taking the spotlight and lead role this time around is going to help a ton.

It will be interesting to see. For me the game did a great job of making me root less for Ellie as she did more and more things I found 'over the line' and by the time the switch happened I was on board with seeing the different perspective. What's interesting with the show is that they really turned down the bad things Ellie does yet a majority of the complaints about S2 seem to be people turning on Ellie, despite the fact her character in the show hasn't really done much bad stuff. So it will be interesting to see how people get on board with the perspective change.
