Horror 'The Last of Us' HBO Series

Uncharted was unfortunately pushed by Holland and probably only got made because of him.
I like Holland but I don’t see the point of pushing for the role of a character you’re a fan of when you’re nothing like them! I wouldn’t want someone to cast me as Thor just because I love the character! It damages the character’s potential too - Nate Drake is not a household name beyond video games now but he might have been had the Uncharted film been treated like the Indiana Jones films. Imagine Holland instead of Harrison Ford there! Being a good actor doesn’t mean you’re a good fit for a given project, and in Marky Mark’s case he is a bad actor on top of being totally miscast as Sully!

Glad I’m not the only one who thinks Wahlberg sucks. After I suffered through The Happening and one of those Bayformers movies, I honestly never wanted to see him in anything again.

Solid premiere episode! The first 30-40 minutes was very well done, it was even better than the game’s emotional gut punch opening

Loved what I saw from Pedro as Joel and looking forward to see more of Ellie going forward

Plus, any series that tops off their episode with Depeche Mode gets an automatic point added to my rating system

11/10

I like Holland too and if I'm being honest he actually pulled off a younger Nate well enough. I'd have just preferred Nate to be in his early-mid 30's at the youngest, closer to the games. But Wahlberg...that was just an all-around baffling choice.

All the goodwill he had from The Departed was squandered away almost immediately. Not unlike Channing Tatum, I've only really enjoyed his comedies like The Other Guys or Ted but he wasn't the reason why I enjoyed them. He was actually funnier in The Happening. :o

Anyway, I downloaded the first episode of the TLOU podcast. Looking forward to listening to that on the drive home from work today.

I did not realize the actress playing Sarah was Thandiwe Newton’s daughter. She looks so much like her to me now that I feel dumb lol.
Thandiwe Newton would play Sarah's mom in my headcanon as she's basically a mystery character in both the game and the show (for now, at least).

It's stunning to me that Bella Ramsey being cast as Ellie was ever an issue to anything. Like legit anyone who's actually truly played the game and watched at least one Lady Mormont clip would've objectively seen Bella is great for the role. And damn is she ever. The only person who could've done the role perfectly and possibly better was Elliot Page and they hated that their likeness was used in the game.

It was as near perfect an adaptation as you can get. There were some changes but they were minor and only added to the story. It's too bad Sarah won't be in it anymore although I guess flashbacks are a possibility.

The only thing I would have said they could do better is air the second episode so we see more of the infected, particularly the Clickers.

I never really saw Page in Ellie any of the times I played TLOU. I take it that this was more obvious in the original PS3 game which is the only version of TLOU I haven't played and Ellie's character model was tweaked to more resemble Ashley Johnson for the Remastered PS4 version and beyond. Weirdly, I think Ellie looks a lot like Emma Watson on the cover of Part 1.

I’ve been watching some reactions to the first episode on YouTube, and the use of Depeche Mode at the end of that episode got me thinking. What other songs do you think they’ll use, or you would like to hear, in future episodes, and even in future seasons, and in what situations or particular scenes would they be in?

I can already think of one.

I can totally hear this being used
at the end of the episode in a future season when Ellie decides to leave Dinah to continue her quest for revenge on Abby. If you’re familiar with the story and her character at that point, you know the lyrics and the tone of the song just fit way too well.

I would love that if they did flashbacks to Sarah’s mom and played by Newton.

Yeah. I'm a big fan of Wonder Woman, but if I were a successful A-list actress, there's not a chance in hell I'd ever push to PLAY Wonder Woman, and trust me, you all would be grateful for that. :funny:

I really liked the first episode. Pedro Pascal is perfect as Joel.

I don't think they changed her character model for the PS4 remaster. It looks same to me. Ellie looked a bit like Ellen Page in some promo pics and the first trailer but they probably changed it after the backlash. I don't think she looks like her in the final game at all.

I'm late on this, but so far this is about as fantastic as it possibly could have been. Still glad they chose Craig Mazin for adapting Last Of Us because there was no better person to do this if you've seen Chernobyl.

When Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey's castings were first announced, I wasn't much too keen on the casting. But after the release of the trailers and now the first episode, happy to say those concerns were put to rest. Pedro Pascal just embodies Joel and I love how much he's trying to emulate Troy Baker's inflections from the game, and Bella Ramsey has got Ellie's attitude down from what little we've seen of her so far. The resemblance thing wasn't something that bothered me much.

Also, that original prologue is chilling and made me once again appreciate how terrific Craig Mazin is at creating a feeling of forebodding dread.

Considering all signs point to Ellie's voice in the game playing Ellie's mother Anna in the show:

Bella Ramsey has the perfect image as her daughter:

Mhm. I think there's a leaked screenshot out there of her character giving birth to Ellie too.

Just started the 2nd half of part II. They could honestly get 3 seasons out of the 2nd game.
