Horror 'The Last of Us' HBO Series

I'm really curious to see what the numbers will look like for episode 5 when it's up against the Super Bowl. Not even Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead in their prime would dare face off against the big game. TWD in particular would wait to come back from its midseason break until the week after the Super Bowl usually. Plus although neither are as big as the Super Bowl it'll also be facing off against the Grammys and Oscars before the end of the season. Times certainly have changed thanks to streaming.

So even though I'm not a total diehard fan of TLOU, but I'm in the camp that it's so strange seeing how much Bella Ramsey doesn't look like Ellie. While I'm not a diehard fan, I do feel actors that look like the person their playing should be considered a bit. It adds more to the adaption aspect.

I was surprised to learn she's actually 19 years old. I think even if the character ages, she's still going to look like she's 14, which will be weird.

I don't think it's a problem at all. If you had never played the game, (like most viewers probably) that thought would never even cross your mind.

I'm sure you'll get used to it after a couple of episodes. It's probably just more noticeable because the game is so cinematic.

Bella Ramsey still very much embodies Ellie's personality so far, so her not bearing that much of a resemblance is not an issue for me. Nailing the character is the most important aspect with casting. Also extending this point of view to Nico Parker's Sarah who doesn't resemble game Sarah at all, but got the personality down still and it worked really well.

Another amazing episode. The Clickers were PERFECT! Love the stuff they're adding with tendrils as well. Wasn't a fan of them replacing spores at first but it works so far and spores could still make an appearance

Definitely. My only concern with Bella at the moment is her being convincing as Ellie from the 2nd game in later seasons. But she is so good here it's only a mild concern at this stage.

We've seen from GOT that Bella can pull off badass, I think (hope) season 2 should be ok
But I also think the non-gaming-internet is going to freak the hell out if a certain someone is offed early in season 2 like the game
Hell, gamers will probably freak too, have a little PTSD flashback

Audiences these days have become so conditioned to major characters dying from shows like Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead to blockbusters like Star Wars and the MCU that I don't think it'll be as blindsiding to those who don't know the story as, say, the Red Wedding was in GOT. Hell, if anything people were more surprised when there isn't enough death like the latest season of Stranger Things. Especially with a world like the one TLOU is set in, I think subconsciously people who don't know the story have to have a sense of feeling that no one is safe. Especially since most of the characters we're about to be introduced to in the show are all basically goners save for Tommy's group. But it's still going to be rough watching Pedro Pascal get his head bashed in on an HBO show for the second time.

Oh yeah, it's 110% going to be rough for viewers who haven't played the games to watch
Pedro Pascal's Joel get savagely beaten to death. The reactions from it are gonna be an emotional gutpunch.

I'm about 4 hours into TLOU Part II...exploring Seattle's QZ. They better not change a goddamn thing unless it's to elevate the story beat as they've expertly done so far.

TLOU Part II needs to be two seasons, there's no way they can cram all that story into one season.

And they have the perfect way to end on season 2 with
switching perspectives to Abby after she gets to the theater

I could see them shifting events around to have that moment take place at the very end of the second season, and they could frontload a lot of the flashbacks with Abby and Ellie and expand on stuff, like they’re already doing with this season, through pretty much all of the second season. Really build to it and allow us to spend time with these characters before the inevitable hammer falls. Then, Season 3 could be Eliie going on the journey with Dinah to find Abby to get her revenge. Could be a great way to rhyme each season. One person gets their revenge at the end of one season, and the other gives it up by the end of another.

I think one of the issues people had with Part II, aside from the whole Abby controversy, was how the events were were distributed in the game. We get a lot of the present day stuff with Ellie, leading up to Abby encountering them at the theater, and then we pretty much follow her, a character a lot of us either had hatred for or didn’t like very much to begin with, linearly for pretty much the majority of the rest of the game.

If you moved all her flashback stuff towards the beginning, those who haven’t played the game are left wondering who this person is. Because she hasn’t killed Joel yet, they don’t have this built-up bias or hold this grudge against her as a character, and are more receptive to getting to know her. We get to see her journey, from when she’s spending time with her father, and her finding her father dead, to when she achieves her revenge. That way, when it happens, new viewers will be like, “Ooooooh, that’s why she is the way she is and wants to do what she wants to do!”

Then again, this first season has been playing around with time with the flashbacks at the beginning of each episode so far, so who knows how it’s going to play out.

They absolutely have to include that moment with Ellie and Dinah going into the music shop, Ellie finding that little corner with the acoustic guitar and she plays that acoustic version of “Take on Me” for Dinah.

It’s such a small moment in the game you could so easily miss and never experience, but I would love it if they included it in the show. Such a great, quiet and tender moment of respite early on before s**t hits the fan.

Also, I’ve seen videos of Bella Ramsey singing and playing guitar, so I know she could absolutely pull that scene off.

During the press tour, Mazin talked about the remaining story being more than one season.
He even alluded to doing a story about the Seraphite Prophet.

But I'd like to see them flesh out Isaac, his relationship with Abby, and the WLF. Bring back Jeffrey Wright!

Part II had so much going on in it that I completely forgot that Wright was in the game.

This episode was fantastic. Anna Torv really made the most of her role, wow. And I’m loving Pedro and Bella.

And I have to say, while I generally find the zombie genre stale and boring, this show finally made zombies scary again. The clickers are straight up horrifying.

True on Bella she was bad ass on GoT. But even at 19 she still looks like a child, so that was my only worry.

Honestly I think they could get 3 seasons out of the 2nd game. Season 2 is the flashbacks between Joel and Ellie from in between the games. Penultimate episode Ellie learns what happened with the Firefly's, final episode THAT moment happens.

Season 3 is then Ellie's journey after, with season 4 being Abby's story.

Try playing TLOU the first time and the Clickers are even more imposing.

I don't think ofvthem as Zombies, really. More like aliens because they look so different. It helps to keep it fresh. :)

Yeah, ever since that episode of Hannibal where this serial killer turned a bunch of (mostly) dead people into garden beds for fungi, the concept of fungus growing on people has always freaked me the hell out. That dude with the fungus growing out of his eye made me want to lose my lunch lol.

Same. They look so otherworldly and the look combined with the noises makes them scarier.
