Horror 'The Last of Us' HBO Series

The game finale was definitely controversial in its own right. I see no reason for the television adaptation to alter it with the exception of tying a little deeper into Part II with a few key characters.

This. I hope they stick to it as much as possible. Though I do think we get a glimpse of Abby as well.

I guess that mainly depends on if they dared to cast such an important character so early, as it would be a big casting process for what's basically just a cameo at this point, but they should at the very least mention her and make the transition between the stories smoother.

I think they might just show a younger version of the character. Part 2 takes place 4/5 years later remember. So they could always re-cast an older actress as the grown up version.

I guess that could be possible, but since I don't expect them to swap out Bella as Ellie as time passes I also haven't thought that they would treat Abby differently since she's older than Ellie. Of course they can change whatever they want in the show compared to the games.

How many seasons total could you all see this going to?

Without milking it too much, 2, 3 seasons.
Oh right. I think some were suggesting multiple additional seasons to cover the second game and then another 2 or 3 for the third. I guess there's a strong chance TLOU3 is the final game, but not sure what happens if the show really does blow up a lot more next season.

Since there are quite a few flashbacks in the second game where we see Abby around this time, it's possible they may just save showing her entirely until next season.

It all depends on how long the third game is and if it ends up being the last game in the series, which is likely. If it's a similar length to Part II, which is around 20-25 hours, then I could see the show ending after 5 seasons. Maybe 6 if Part III ends up being a longer game.

Will we see the scene when Marlene talks to Abby’s father about Elle? It’s in the second game but would be a great Easter egg like the quick look at Dina in episode 6.

If they can keep up or build on the quality so far I would be very happy to get that much material. Not ready to give this up any time soon. Feels like the hype for TLOU3 is going to be a lot higher than it already would have been.

On a different note, it's so awesome Troy and Ashley got roles in the show.
Plus Merle Dandridge (Marlene in the game and show) and Jeffrey Pierce (game Tommy) having roles in the show was awesome too.

If we don't see it here they could have it in season 2. I'm not expecting it only because the length of the finale is supposedly about 43 minutes so I don't think they'd spend too much time on plot points that can be revealed at a later time.

Yeah it's great Merle and Jeffrey have been in the show too. I love that they're actually respecting the game but making changes to it where they see fit.

If I was going to have a criticism so far. It would be the lack of infected. I don't feel we're getting any in the finale either.

It's a valid criticism. I often find myself not even noticing when infected don't show up in an episode and to me that's a testament to how good the show is.

I just picked up the remastered version of the game for PS5. I just finished Bill’s town and I just got ambushed in Pittsburgh. If you played this version of the game I could see people being disappointed in the lack of infected. I for one like the the fact that you get to know the characters, heroes and villains. I will say this I would have loved to have seen Bellla’s interaction with Bill.

I don’t see that as a problem at all. I would much prefer this less is more approach to something like Walking Dead where every episode was obligated to have a perfunctory moment of zombie gore that became stale and often distracting. The characters and the drama should be at the forefront, always.

On the other hand, I read an unironic thread on the TLOU HBO subreddit last week claiming that they should just exclude the infected entirely in the future and peeps in the comment section agreeing, so extremely stupid opinions exist on both sides. :funny:

I mean, if you excise the infected altogether you lose the existential threat of the cordycep outbreak that is the bedrock of the entire story. So yeah you couldn’t do that either haha.

Yeah, you need the infected there but I gotta admit
in the story of Part II, the infected do kind of take a backseat to all the horrible **** the humans in the game do to each other. The Rat King is the most notable infected moment in the game.

What? And miss out on the fabulous make up and CGI they gave us? No thanks, lol.,

I think the infected take on zombies is cool but while they are necessary I never felt they were among the best parts of the games. They don't bring much drama and even in gameplay I enjoyed the fights with humans more.

So with that being the case I'm happy that the show focuses mostly on the human side. That's what makes TLOU great.

True. Though from what I recall, I think it's mostly from blind viewers who watch the show solely for the Joel and Ellie relationship (also Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey fans) that likely aren't fans of horror.

I prefer having infected at least obviously in the background even if they aren’t the focus. Otherwise it could be just a regular apocalypse show post nukes/asteroid collision with no undead element and no ongoing threat of future bites/infections. Focus on humans for sure, but keep the reminder constant of the background of what caused it all and what keeps things risky and stops civilisation evolving again.

This, too. I like there to be more than human threats.

I'd like just one small version of something I do as many times as I can in the game, which is to draw the infected to fight the humans as I pick them off.
