    Happy Thanksgiving, Guest!

Horror 'The Last of Us' HBO Series

Have to say that this episode cleared my doubts on the length because it was paced perfectly and thankfully didn't feel rushed. Pedro and Bella better get those Emmy wins.

The way that one shot lingered on Abby's dad's corpse... downright foreboding. You know right then and there that it's Joel's death sentence.

Oh nice! I was wondering if they were going to give her a different role to play in season 2, so this was a nice surprise. Also kind of ironic when you think about it.

I would say it sounded less like villain music and more like this character is going down a dark path in order to not lose another daughter and there will be massive consequences. It struck me as more melancholy and tragic if anything, especially if you know what happens going forward.

I know what happens and I know it's a morally grey situation but that's still some villain ass music. :o

What i'm really saying is... I can't wait for what's to come.

I thought the finale was good but could have been better. Felt it was kinda rushed and should have been a 2 parter

I really did not like Joel in the hospital but that was spot on how the game was too. Which was the point of that scene. We're meant to see Joel will go through for Ellie.

Man, I really loved this finale and now we have the agonizing wait for Season 2. In all seriousness though I didn't feel like anything was rushed in this episode which was probably the most surprising thing about it considering how short it was which worried me quite a bit at first, but it actually flowed perfectly IMO.

Also, I think I have finally come to the conclusion that I definitely enjoy the more human/emotional elements of this show more than the stuff with the infected. Now, don't get me wrong I enjoy that stuff too but my favorite episodes this season have all been the more character driven episodes like episodes 3 and 6.

I hope we don't lose that element going forward either even though I can fully understand the complaints about the lack of infected, but for me personally I'm definitely here for the character drama.

Oh, and it hasn't been stated enough just how great Pedro and Bella's acting has been throughout this whole show and especially this episode, but both of them deserve so much Emmy recognition right now.

Hopefully, this show gets the attention it deserves come awards season.
Great post!! I believe they made the decision to limit the infected because it would have turned of the general audience. They would have seen the creatures as another mindless zombie show. I remember playing the original game in 2014 and thought wow what a story. HBO pulled it off!!! The greatest video game adaptation of the best video game story. I think the second game was a better story and we have not seen anything yet when it comes to introducing the infected or character. My only complaint when it it comes to the creatures is I would have loved to see Stalkers. I think they are best creatures from the game. Hopefully they introduce certain characters with the backstory first and not as flashbacks.

It was a good episode, but it also felt abrupt. I thought there might be more of a hint as to what might happen next season.
I here you but they don’t want to ruin the second season for the general audience. Hopefully you get to talk to people who are not familiar with the game. They love the show and it would ruin their experience to have to many Easter eggs for season two. They left the camera on the surgeon for a while. We gamers know what that means…….

There have been a ton of great emotional moments between the 2 of them in the show but that was the best of the lot, and fitting it comes in the finale. Can expect an emotional roller coaster next season too when they handle all the characters so well.

Excellent finale to an excellent season!

Once again, I really don’t have much to say. Aside from the opening and a few other changes, this was pretty much like the game. Pedro Pascal was an absolute machine in that hospital sequence. And Ashley Johnson was great in the opening few minutes, though it was a little weird hearing Ellie’s voice come from someone who wasn’t Ellie.

-“It wasn’t time that did it.” :waa:

-They kept the giraffe moment!

Also, it’s a seemingly small change, but they added a little bit to Ellie’s dialogue response to Joel after the giraffe encounter. In the original game, it ends after “ It can’t be for nothing.” Here, they added a couple extra sections of dialogue That that I found very interesting in light of the second game. She says, “We’ll go wherever you want.”, “I’ll follow you anywhere you go.” and
“There’s no halfway with this. We finish what we started.”

The first and second line, down to the shot composition and the actors’ expressions, almost exactly mirrors the encounter and conversation they have after Ellie discovers the truth about what Joel did (“I’ll go back. But we’re done.”). Both also mark him making very crucial decisions that will change his life forever. The first, with him making a choice that puts him in a situation where he has to do horrible things to save the one he loves, the second where making the choice to tell her puts a rift between them. The first one he gains her, and in the second he loses her.

But, the second and third line together definitely foreshadow the dark path she’ll go down in the second and third season. In a way, she will follow him everywhere he goes and finish what they started, by taking on his anger, sadness and rage and pursuing a path of vengeance and violence.

It’s also no accident that the position of his corpse and the shot composition is most definitely the same as the shot of Joel when he dies, just mirrored. Almost like what happens to both Abby and Ellie and what choices they make in the second game are meant to be mirrors of each other.

Can’t wait for the second season to come in the next couple of years!

Didn't even think about that, that's awesome.

There really isn't much else happening in the final part of the game that we don't see in the episode with the notable exception of Joel and Ellie going through an abandoned tunnel that's full of infected. They get caught in a current, Ellie nearly drowns and they get captured by the Fireflies. When I saw the runtime for the finale, I automatically assumed they cut that part out since it isn't essential to the story and also likely for budget reasons.

Still gave me shivers of joy, knowing he wasn't going to stand down.

I just want to say, watching this finale just further reinforced me wanting to have a daughter in the future.

Also, Joel telling Ellie the story about how he almost gave up on life and killed himself and Ellie telling him that she’s glad he didn’t definitely hits very close to home and hit me emotionally for me, considering my past and current circumstances.

There was only one line that easily beat out "It wasn’t time that did it".

"I’m not saying you’re not girly"-"I’m not". :D

I know you have had a lot of difficult circumstances so it's great to hear that this show had a powerful and positive impact for you, that you can take into your own life. All the best for the future mate.

As someone who hasn't played the game, that finale did not land at all for me. Left a sour mark on the season too.
