Horror 'The Last of Us' HBO Series

Yeah, the recast manifesting was (thankfully) never an option. Plus, Bella's currently around the same age Ellie was in Part II, and it's too early to know when they'll start production so she'll likely be even older by then.

On another note, I wouldn't be opposed to be season 2 opening up with
younger Abby in the hospital finding her father dead, and then keeping her absent for a few episodes until she's reintroduced shredded as hell. Because on one hand, it leaves blind viewers with the anxious anticipation of what she will do once she reappears again, and it's a good way to reinforce the fact that Joel's actions will have major consequences and an easy way to get the audience to understand why she feels such hatred toward him. Then either mid-season or as the season 2 finale, they finally have her encounter Joel and, well, the rest is history.

See I disagree. I think it's better it's opens like the game so we don't know who
Abby is looking for and why
.

I am a big Superman fan and I am anticipating when Gunn cast’s his Man of Steel but not going to lie, the casting of Abby is my most anticipated casting of any movie or show for the next few years. Will it be another HBO actress from Euphoria, House of Dragons, Game of Thrones or will they go outside the family. I would take a look at young Rhaenyra and young Alicent. Both excellent actresses that could handle the roll. Most importantly they both have acting chops to make the character tough, lovable, and controversial. I am betting HBO wants team Abby vs team Elle fight with the audience to boost the ratings and get social media talking.

Agreed, they can do a whole season with the flashbacks from the 2nd game all the way up to Joel’s encounter. We should see plenty of infected as well.

Good calls on those 2. They both have what it takes IMO.

Yeah I see YouTubers want body builders playing Abby. The video game character Abby needed that look to fight infected and look cool. This Abby needs to be able to compel the audience to be on her side and have the acting chops to keep up with Bella and Pedro.

Yeah, it’s not going to work at all if they can’t keep up with Bella in particular. Absolutely need a good actor for this role, more so than any particular physique.

Not to complain about the the 2nd game because I loved it but I would rather have seen Abby with a Laura Croft look. More athletic then muscular. Maybe make Abby a martial arts expert.:coolguy:

So I got delayed watching it, got to check out the finale last night, and I think it's interesting the different experiences I and my gf had:

-I played the game. I thought the show did a good job recreating it, although it did feel a tad rushed; I'd have liked this to have been an hour and a half at least, to feel like the epic, exhausting showdown it was in the game. I also thought it was somewhat darker than the game in tone, the way Joel stalked through like a mass shooter was pretty disturbing (although I didn't see anybody begging for their lives, maybe I missed that). I missed all the makeshift weapons too. When I played the game I'm pretty sure I only killed like two people with guns, the rest was molotovs and bats and s***. But the ending hit the right way for me emotionally, and overall I liked it. Plus the giraffes scene was perfect, and the convo about Ellie being what healed Joel was very touching

-My gf never played the game, but she's loved every moment of the season thus far. She hated the finale. Thought it was way too short and abrupt, didn't think the fireflies were given enough development, didn't like the way it played out (not in a "disagreeing with Joel's choice" way, but more in a "that's it?" way) and just thought it felt like a very small episode. She was also in the "so there's no more clickers?" boat and would've liked some more zombie action. Her big draw has been Pedro all season, so I'm getting the feeling she's not gonna love next season either, but we'll see

I like visual variety so I’m fine with her game look as it’s not exactly a common look. That said I’m not that attached to it that I mind if they change it up. I usually prefer the athletic look too.

Interesting. Also in here the only example we’ve had of someone not liking it is someone who hasn’t played the game. Hopefully that isn’t too common amongst non-game players.

I don't disagree, it's just a suggestion. I don't think we should expect the show's structure to be the exact same as Part II in terms of flashblack placement and
Abby's introduction though. That's one of the things I feel the show could improve on from the game since it's a different medium.

They should leave Abby as she is in the game. There are not nearly enough women of her build represented. In fact it is almost unheard of in the industry.

I would be ok with it if they find the right actress that can hang with Bella and Pedro. How about a Demi Moore GI Jane type. They did bulk up Natalie Portman for Thor Love and Thunder. She looked like a live action Abby. Casting will be interesting and controversial.

Putting this on a spoiler bracket just to be safe:

I am so sorry for whoever gets casted as her due to inevitable backlash. Regardless of how one might feel about the character, people who lack the common sense to separate an actor from their performances need to get a grip.

Even back when I didn't really like Abby, I felt the lash outs towards Laura Bailey were disgusting for that very reason.

I don’t know if it will be like the game. People who did not play the game disagree with Joel’s decision to save Elle. Some were turned off that he killed so many people to save her. I think fans like that will back Abby.

Those are not the responses I've been seeing at all. At the very least it's 50/50, but to claim that every single blind viewer who's watched the finale disagrees with Joel's actions is objectively wrong. You're also severely underestimating how blind viewers have come to care for the character if you think
Abby killing him won't be seen as controversial and divisive to them as it was to us back in 2019.

I just don’t think the backlash will be as bad as the video game. Gamers are a different kinda fans. I remember the backlash. Some of my favorite YouTube game reviewers refused to play the game. I think people were more upset that you had to play with a certain character. That character actually had the best story in my opinion. Brutal what they went through as well as horrifying. I am telling you the divide will lead to big ratings if they pick the right actress.

One small touch I loved early in the episode was the guitar talk. Unless Bella can already play, I hope she’s taking lessons for added authenticity later. :cwink:

Eh, it aint that hard
Plus Ellie only has a couple years to learn from a lapsed guitar player like Joel
She's never going to be shredding Van Halen solos or anything

:D The infected would probably let her live and watch/listen in respectful silence if she did that.
