Good the big moment won’t happen until the end of season 2. They can take there time and put the flashbacks in real-time. Hope they really flesh out the new characters and make the general audience care for certain characters unlike the game.
 
It was a pretty stripped down version of the end but I think it worked very well, hitting all the important beats and both Pedro and Bella selling everything really well with their acting. Overall the season has been great and I think I prefer it to the game just because the human acting just has sold the emotional parts even better.

Difficult question for all of you but because we live in a society that likes lists, I have to ask how would you rank the episodes? Full disclosure, I thought every single episode was great and there wasn't a bad one in the bunch, this is just my personal preference after watching them all again this weekend leading up to the finale.

The Last of Us: Season 1

1. Episode 3: Long Long Time
2. Episode 5: Endure and Survive
3. Episode 8: When We Are in Need
4. Episode 9: Look for the Light
5. Episode 1: When You're Lost in the Darkness
6. Episode 6: Kin
7. Episode 4: Please Hold to My Hand
8. Episode 7: Left Behind
9. Episode 2: Infected

It feels strange putting episode 3 at the top because Joel and Ellie aren't the focus but it still left such an impact that I'm still thinking about that particular episode well over a month after it aired. Episode 5 to me encompassed everything great about the game in one episode both in terms of action and emotional weight.
 
I've never played the game. A close friend (who sadly passed a few years ago, he would've loved this show) showed me it when it first came out, hence only some vague memory. So I'd no ideas about the characters or the story going into this.

From that perspective this is a truly great TV-show. And this last episode just went by quickly as hell (had to check the runtime afterwards lol). It will be a long wait until season 2..
 
Considering they’ve gotten actors from the games to portray certain, prominent, crucial roles in the show, how cool would it be if they got Nolan North to play Abby’s dad? I feel he has a similar kind of bearing and energy that would be great for that character. Also, he wouldn’t have to commit to being around for too long, but just long enough to have an impact on screen.

Speaking of which, I am wondering how they are going to cast Abby in the show. With Ellie, it’s not really much of an issue, because there’s not really that much significant difference between child Ellie and older Ellie. But, with how physically different, in terms of musculature and height, Abby is between her younger self and older self, I almost feel like you have to cast two different actresses for that part.

That’s not to mention the time jump at the end of the game, where Abby is all physically wasted and noticeably emaciated from her captivity. Unless they film that section as its own separate season, which I don’t think would be good for the shows momentum, I feel like that’s one of the few times where CGI would have to be implemented to showcase that.
 
Should never have doubted. Excellent finale. The bar has officially been set for video game adaptations. My criticism about the lack of infected still stands. But everything else about this show is sublime.

Cannot wait for season 2 and 3.

Concerning the dialing down of the infected in the show, I think one reason why they did it, aside from having a first season budget, and one way they could justify it
is by using Joel’s decision at the end of this season to show in season 2 and beyond the worsening of the world years later through the Infected growing in numbers and evolving to the point of being harder to kill and get rid of.

Those are damned impressive numbers in this Age of Too Much Content. I'll be curious to see if this or HoD draws more viewers for their respective 2nd seasons. HoD's overall S1 numbers were slightly higher, but this one's showing a steeper increase from episode-to-episode, so it'll be interesting to see which show brings the most people back after their hiatuses. Either way, HBO keeps winning, despite Zaslav's greatest efforts. :o

Just finished the finale and it was a pretty faithful adaptation of the last part of the game with slight differences just like the rest of the series. Overall just like the entire first season it was a beautiful but tragic ending and I like that they didn’t really change the ending of the game really that much. Looking forward to what Neil and Craig and cast and crew do with The Last of Us Part 2 but I have so much trust that they will nail it after this fantastic first season.

It’s very challenging material in season 2 but as you say we have every reason to have faith after how well they’ve handled season 1.

HotD was great but (and this might be recency bias from me) it feels like TLOU has gained a ton of momentum over the last few weeks and finished the season with even more hype for the second season than HotD had. And that’s from non-game viewers with no idea of what’s to come lol. This thing really could explode further depending how well received or not certain game 2 events are.
 
Yeah, the recast manifesting was (thankfully) never an option. Plus, Bella's currently around the same age Ellie was in Part II, and it's too early to know when they'll start production so she'll likely be even older by then.

On another note, I wouldn't be opposed to be season 2 opening up with
younger Abby in the hospital finding her father dead, and then keeping her absent for a few episodes until she's reintroduced shredded as hell. Because on one hand, it leaves blind viewers with the anxious anticipation of what she will do once she reappears again, and it's a good way to reinforce the fact that Joel's actions will have major consequences and an easy way to get the audience to understand why she feels such hatred toward him. Then either mid-season or as the season 2 finale, they finally have her encounter Joel and, well, the rest is history.

Hopefully. I just want to see more of them. They absolutely need to introduce spores as well, especially for Ellie's encounter with
