The Last of Us

I think I remember reading that naughty decided to to purposely make it so that enemy AI characters don't respond at all to the npcs, if that wasn't the case they would probably be getting seen all the time.
And yea my first playthru clocked in at just over 18 hours, long game indeed but none of it felt like filler material

The game would be much, much harder if the NPC's could alert enemies and the game is already pretty hard so that didn't bother me very much. It did break the immersion a few times but I have to chalk it up to limitations of the technology.

The break of immersion is the biggest issue for me with the AI. I guess this would be one of the games where I wouldn't mind to have something like a Kinect, or just a simple mic, so I can give the AI voice commands like stay or go.

The AI during the Clicker sections is dreadful. NPCs stomping round past zombies is so dumb :(

haha that's funny. And it's true...but it's also a good thing. I mean, would you really want your entire game to depend on the AI?

Yeah, see this is the thing. It's either what it is right now, or Ellie getting you found every 5 seconds. It's the lesser of two evils, but I do feel like Naughty Dog could have found a better middle-ground.

I just wish they would have programmed the AI to never walk in the line of sight of enemy NPCs. You know, just keep up the illusion that your AI partner is vulnerable.

Think I'm about 60% of the way through it now, some of the Clickers and the bigger ones are an utter pain.
The largest one just seems to absorb all the bullets I have, and running away doesn't help as they normally block my path.

Other than a few minor gameplay hiccups the actual game itself is fantastic, love the look and feel of the world, the way the characters interact.

God, I hate Clickers. A pain to take down with the bow, because their heads keep spasm around the entire time.

Yea head shots seem to be the only good way to take them down, but they bobble about so much that by the time you get a good shot they've got too close and insta-kill me or someone else jumps me.

I wish games didn't have to make you clear an area to progress I'd like to sneak past or just run my a$$ off to a checkpoint/hideout.

13 hours in and I don't think Ive ever really used the bow. With the clickers, if possible, Ive found it best to just try and stealth around them. I just passed a section later in the game when there were just a bunch of them and I didn't even bother trying to kill them as it would easily have put me in a position to be overwhelmed

The best way to take them down, is to study their path and then shoot them when they stand still. But they just stand still for a seconds or two, so you need to aim fast. Or lure them all to one spot with a bottle and then Molotov their asses. :cmad:

Molotovs work well on the bloaters. The clickers go down with two arrows but, don't go into hunting mode after the first hit. Hope that helps.

The only way to really fix it would be to make the NPCs at least a little playable. It would alsobmake the game insanely difficult if you had to keep track of three people in stealth mode. It's hard enough just to keep Joel from getting spotted.

Heh, I have a very interesting bug right now. I snuck down a flight of stairs, bow in hand, when Ellie suddenly said "To your left." I look around and see nothing. Then I look behind me and there's a conga line forming on the stairs. There are a bunch of hunters who have trouble getting down the stairs. Occasionally one hunter will manage to get down, look for me, and then go back up the stairs. And that process just keeps repeating itself.

It would be good if, say, during Clicker sections where you don't use Ellie, she finds a crawlspace to navigate.

Now you need them to completely redesign all of the areas of the game involving enemies.

Well I... kinda... meant if they'd done that from the start, not made it first then redesigned it

Still, it's a layer of complexity that accomplishes the same thing as the set up they went with.

See, Naughty Dog basically turned an escort mission into a game without making it play like one long escort mission. By having the NPCs get caught by the AI, you make the game a 20 hour escort mission with all of the headaches that come with them. And most of us hate escort missions.

FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU................!!!!

F**k you console. Just f**k you! I killed like a dozen Hunters who were all stupid enough to enter the building through the same 2 windows, one at a time. All I had to do was to sneak around the table each time and strangle/shiv them. Then when the next unlucky schmuck decided to jump through the window, the console decided my kill steak is getting out of hand and it just froze on me.

Wow I didn't know Nolan North was in this game I can't believe who he plays I couldn't even tell it was him.

Who does he play? Dont tell me if its a character that comes in after the early stages of Bill Town because that's where I am right now.

And Oh My God this game is amazing, I cannot wait to see what Naughty Dog will do with the PS4.

just got this game today..not played it yet but loved all the uncharteds so looking forward to giving it a go...trying to get through batman arkham city at the present,a free gift from ps plus!

You don't encounter him until there's snow on the ground.

I don't know if this is just another case of the media stirring things up for the sake of a story, but apparently Ellen Page is not happy with Ellie's character model.

Ellen Page Doesn't Appreciate the Use of Her Likeness in The Last of Us
"I am actually acting in a video game called Beyond Two Souls, so it was not appreciated."

Remember how The Last of Us' Ellie once bore a more-than-striking resemblence to Canadian actress Ellen Page? And remember how Naughty Dog subsequently redesigned her to better resemble her voice actress, Ashley Johnson? But arguably, Ellie still carries certain... Ellen-Page-ish qualites?

In a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything, Page admitted she did not "appreciate" her likeness being "ripped off" by Naughty Dog, principally due to her legitimate involvement with Quantic Dream's Beyond: Two Souls, another Sony exclusive.

The below question was posed to Page during her recent AMA:
"This has almost certainly been made clear to you several times, but are you aware how much you look like Ellie from “The Last of Us,” a video game which came out about a week ago. She even sounds like you. So much so that almost everyone assumed it was you playing the role.

Which leads me to my questions:
How did you like playing the role of a video game character when doing “Beyond: Two Souls?” Do you prefer live action? Have you seen any footage of “The Last of Us” and would you have taken the role as Ellie if approached?"

To which Page replied:
"I guess I should be flattered that they ripped off my likeness, but I am actually acting in a video game called Beyond Two Souls, so it was not appreciated."

What do you think? Both share a certain endearing spiritedness (and brown hair and short stature) but does Ellie still remind you so blatantly of Page? Let us know in the comment section.

Ellie doesnt even look like Ellen Page anymore. Im guessing she hasnt seen any shots of the game since last year? This article seems several months too late.

Anyways just beat the game and Wow. Definetly one of the best game, Ive played this gen. Everything about it was absolutely top notch and kudos to Naughty Dog.

Final game time: 17:48; just show of 18 hours. Now that was a good long game. Usually game times are exagerated but this one most definetly was not

Im surprised [blackout]both Ellie and Joel made it out of the game alive. The game had me fooled after he fell on that spike bc when you first play as Ellie, I thought he was dead and she was surviving on her own. Later at the end, I thought Joel got to her too late and wasnt sure if he was just carrying a dead body and didnt realize it[/blackout]

I REALLY hope theres a sequel to this. I love this world and would love to see it explored again.
