All these statements are true. (Except that fighting games don't have 'main characters' per se). Additionally, Ryu is usually in the opening cinematics and Akuma, the 'final boss' of SF is his storyline. Ryu is, for all intents and purposes, the lead character in street fighter. I get that.
I don't believe that translates into much street recognizability because his costume is so generic. Anime movies would be irrelevant in such matters.
Everything appears cool with your post except for that comment about the anime movie? Why should it be ignored? It did better than the live action movie? So why should it be ignored when it has already proven that it can do better than it's live action counter part?
