The Legend of Zelda. The Movie?

It'll definitely happen in our lifetime. I'd say no longer than twenty years.

Possibly, but not for quite a few years. Nintendo seems to be really protective of it's properties right now. Don't blame them after the Mario Bros. movie.

But that was a good 15 years ago.

Zelda has a chance to be epic and in tune with the LOTR saga.

I'd honestly be shocked if we didn't get at least one big-budget Zelda movie.

I see one happening in the next 7 to 10 years to be honest.

it has so much potential imagine the Zorra's like this infact get del toro on this lol

I think it'll be more of a question of "will there be great video game movies within our lifetime"?

I hope so. I think when there's a generational change in Hollywood we'll start to get some good video game movies. It's sort of like how when people who weren't familar with comic books made movies they were generally terrible but in the last decade some fans have directed some great comic book films and now they're box office gold!

However, the Legend of Zelda would have to wait it's turn for a Bioshock, Assassin's Creed or another sort of video game to break the curse first before it has it's turn.

I do want someone to break the curse before a Zelda movie is made.

I'd watch a Zelda movie, as long as Uwe Boll doesn't direct it

Yes, and it will probably be terrible.*

It's really easy to say "Oh, [my favorite game] would make such a great movie!!" but when you think about it, and I'm talking about real, honest thought about the reality of how it would be translated vs. how you think it should be translated, hopefully you'll realize that neither option would make a particularly great film.

*Having said that: Personally, I think Zelda is one of those games that could possibly make a great movie, but I feel like for a "good" Zelda movie to happen A LOT would have to be lost in translation. So much so, that it would probably be unrecognizable as "Zelda". So you kind of have to wonder, what's the point? [BLACKOUT]Other than banking on a recognizable brand of course.[/BLACKOUT] ;)

What makes you say that? It's a pure fantasy tale about a guy saving a princess with monsters strewn about. I really don't think you would have to change much to make it into a good to great film.

Zelda has everything to be a Lord of the Rings caliber film if handeled correctly

True.

Why has nothing happened about it then?

i guess the same reason why we still haven't gotten anything on a Metal Gear and Halo movie. it's just in the backburner and it's a franchise that does not want to end up like the most recent slew of game to movie adaption

Hmm not sure.

It all depends on Nintendo really.

You can bet though that when the day comes that they announce some partnership with Universal/Warner Bros & Legendary Pics/Sony/20th Century Fox/Columbia etc (any one of those studios) to adapt some of their properties.

Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, Metroid lovers will probably faint. I'm willing to bet though that these three Nintendo properties would be among the first that they'd try to adapt.

I still dont think it will happen for maybe another 30-40 years.

i really doubt that Pokemon will get the live action treatment; at least i hope it doesn't get made.

Metroid would make for a pretty badass sci-fi/action film

I also have that feeling. Nintendo isn't in some sort of situation where they are hungry for money and on the verge of bankruptcy.

In fact they are doing better than ever and with the Nintendo 3DS coming out soon I doubt they'll be in need to ****e themselves out to Hollywood.

If anything they'll probably go for the graceful way and make their own film subsidiary to work with some repeatable studio and directors when the company sees fit (which doesn't seem to be any time soon).

Again there's no reason why Nintendo needs to make a movie it just wouldn't be a logical decision in terms of where they are as a company.

It would take a serious change within Nintendo executive management to change their views on adapting their properties. That my friends won't be happening any time soon due to the seniority politics that come into play for Japanese publishers/developers.

Pokemon is one of their most lucrative franchises, I'd bet my left arm that it'd be one of the first properties to rear its pretty little head if Nintendo became seriously invested into adapting their games into movies once again.

Although video game movies have been cursed, I'd love to see it happen, especially based on Ocarina of Time. If done right it has the potential to be EPIC.
