The Libertarian Thread

I'm saying that when one tries to present something new and different, something that may be the truth, to other people so conditioned by what they see on the Wall (essentially television, movie screens, magazines, newspapers, etc.) that the chances are that those who you try to convince will think you're crazy and will taunt you because of what you believe as opposed to what those in power want them to believe.

Also, it's funny, I have to address this separately. You know who else I hear this same exact thing from? TheSumofGod. You know who TheSumofGod is? If you don't, TSOG was a post who believes that the Bush Administration orchestrated 9/11 using high tech never before seen holographic technology.

Who said I was trying to do that?

I'm saying that when one tries to present something new and different, something that may be the truth, to other people so conditioned by what they see on the Wall (essentially television, movie screens, magazines, newspapers, etc.) that the chances are that those who you try to convince will think you're crazy and will taunt you because of what you believe as opposed to what those in power want them to believe.

And I wasn't addressing that to you. I was addressing the immature people who just like to crap on Ron Paul for no reason other than that they think he's crazy.

Why? It's goes back to what I just said.

First Plato, now Pink Floyd....you sir are a true philosopher and beacon of enlightenment.

My personal feeling is that if a book was written and proclaimed to be the most important of our age, I would think its not something that would be written by a politician...be it Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, or Strom Thurmond.

His ideas, not yours. You're so brainwashed it's not even funny. You can't even come up with one original thought on your own, you need Ron Paul to let you know what the most important book of our age is and can't do anything but add ignorant retorts using someone else's ideas and thoughts. Let me know when you actually free yourself from that cave and start coming up with your own ideas on things.

It's one of those things that pisses me off about Paul supporters and people who grasp at someone's beliefs. It's like they have no clue what the **** was going on until some dickbag gets in your face and you have that "OMG, I believe in everything he says! He's my hero!" Hero worship is so not the direction we need to go in to create some actual change in this country.

First of all, I'm sorry that I did not come up with the Allegory of the Cave before Plato did. If I had only been born a few millenia earlier. Secondly, I'm not brainwashed. I see things for what they are. The mass-media is a tool of brainwashing that those in power use to convince to the masses their agenda, which typically is not to the benefit of the masses. I also realize that in trying times like these, where we have a $9 trillion defecit, we are invading countries for no other reason other than for business interests and imperial agendas, we are losing our civil liberties, and our government is no longer recognizable, it is important that we return to our Constitution. That is what Ron Paul proposes. Nothing more, nothing less. I do not see why people despise Ron Paul so much when all he wishes to do is to return to the values this country was built upon. I suppose it's much easier to make Ron Paul look crazy as opposed to our Founding Fathers and the Constitution.

I do, in fact come up with original thoughts of my own. You do not know me, so save your judgment for someone you've actually met. And Ron Paul did not let me know that his book was the most important of our age. I let myself know that. I read it, and deduced from it, that if people read this book, and wish to return to the Constitutional values the book calls for, then perhaps this book can be the spark of a real change. It may not necessarily be the most important, but it certainly has the potential.

And yes, it is quite the "ignorant retort" to quote Plato. Almost as ignorant as posting a mocking link to a children's book on Amazon.com. Let's not discuss ignorance.

I like to think I have freed myself from the cave. The very fact that I recognize most things as being ******** in the mass media reasserts that notion at least to me.

And yes, shame on me for grasping on to someone else's beliefs. I support Ron Paul only because he supports the Constitution and a return to it. Shame on me. And Ron Paul is by no means my hero. My heroes are much more personal to me than a man I do not know. I simply agree with what he says. I'm sorry if all you took out of this post was "hero-worship". I would gladly discuss Ron Paul's ideas and how they reflect the ideas of our Founding Fathers, but no, instead, I've been forced to defend myself and Ron Paul for the entirety of this thread. It's showing me more and more that the Hype is not the place for this type of discussion, since no one here wishes to see what's really going on in the world. Go to the library and pick up the book and at least read a couple pages before you attack me. You have no basis.

Also, it's funny, I have to address this separately. You know who else I hear this same exact thing from? TheSumofGod. You know who TheSumofGod is? If you don't, TSOG was a post who believes that the Bush Administration orchestrated 9/11 using high tech never before seen holographic technology.

Yes, I know who TSOG is, and I thought the arguments he produced were wrong. However, I did not attack him. And also, I would say that my argument is a lot less extreme than TSOG's.

I stopped reading your post at the "don't know me, don't judge me" part, because I almost choked on my spit from the hypocrisy of that statement.

While The Wall by Pink Floyd is an excellent album and movie, the Wall I was refering to was the Wall in the Allegory of the Cave on which shadows would be cast from the back of the cave for all the prisoner's to see. Since they are imprisoned in the cave for life, the percieve the symbols put on the wall by their unseen masters on the balcony as truth. Much like how we believe what we see on TV.

Godman believes that too... he had one hell of a thread in the politics forum...

Hey chief, all I did was reference a piece of philosophy, and now you're all upset. Remember, this started with your childish linking.

Chances are, they're the same person.

No, you judged me as part of the ignorant masses that mock people like Ron Paul who will be bring peace to the galaxy or what not.

And yes, my link was childish, and it's what we like to call a joke. Maybe Ron Paul should write a book about having a sense of humor. Lets call it the most important book of Dark Vigilante's social life.

What can you expect from a Paul supporter? It's one of the main reasons IMO why he will never be a viable candidate or vehicle for change. It's amazing how arrogant and pompous a lot of Paul supporters are. For the record, I may be generalizing but those are my thoughts based on my experiences with Paul supporters.

It's amazing how pompous a lot of Clinton supporters are. It's amazing how arrogant a lot of Obama supporters are. It's amazing how pompous and arrogant McCain supporters are. It's amazing how pompous and arrogant some Christians are. It's amazing how pompous and arrogant any believer in anything is. Welcome to reality.

I would also like to reassert that my response was based on you're linking to a children's book. I'm not the only arrogant and pompous one here.

You referenced a piece of philosophy in an attempt to make your point seem more valid and discredit those of us who don't agree with you. Bear in mind, I could care less about Ron Paul, his position, or his book. Ron Paul, IMO, is selling something, just like any other politician....it might not be the **** sandwich we are offered by others, but it still smells funny...

A good friend of mine became a Paultard last year. He was literally a hardcore liberal one day, he went to a Ron Paul rally that evening, and the next day he was a libertarian. He even went so far as to change his political views on his Facebook page (that's how you tell it's serious). Mind you, he didn't really believe in the libertarian philosophy, nor did he believe in the "true Republicanism" which many claim Paul preaches. He really only supported Paul because he wanted to legalize marijuana and get the United States out of Iraq.

I told my friend he should support Dennis Kucinich, since he believed in that stuff too... he digressed, and basically implied that Ron Paul was the "it" candidate at the moment... he eventually abandoned the Paultard get up and started supporting Edwards before he dropped out of the race (I think he's not supporting anyone now)... but it makes me laugh that many people blindly aligned themselves with Ron Paul because it was the 'cool' thing to do...

You must've missed the part where I said I might be generalizing and those views are based on my own experiences. How did you get through Ron Paul's book without a basic grasp on reading comprehension. It's implied that I believe that Paul supporters when it comes to politics are the worst of the bunch, and I know I'm not alone in this train of thought.

I judged you as ignorant because you mock someone who wants stands for our Constitution. No matter what is said about the Constitution or our Founding Fathers or what America once use to be all about, all everyone wants to do is bash Ron Paul. It just proves to me how effective the media really is in distracting and morphing public opinion. Hence the "ignorant masses" reference. If the shoe fits...

And I have a sense of humor, but I save it for funny things.

I supported Kucinich because I wanted to see more of Elizabeth Kucinich.....yea baby

You know what, this is silly. Theres no point in arguing with you since I instigated some sort of emotional response that makes you impervious to logic. Obviously all the kids in school use to cram you in the locker like all the rest of the "ignorant masses" when you were a little boy. Sorry to make you relive that.

Actually quite the opposite....from what I have seen the media has basically ignored Ron Paul because everyone knew, from the get go, that he had no chance at the White House....I had never even heard of Ron Paul until I started posting on here last May...

I especially hate the notion of them adding little catchphrases like "Revolution" and "New Era" when it comes to Ron Paul. Yeah, go live through a real Revolution and see how awesome it is. Ron Paul wouldn't know the first thing about revolution if it came and bit him in his Doctorate.

Interesting, considering, that in a number in contests, Paul beat heavily covered candidates by a lot. Yet still, those who got less of the vote than he did got more coverage. What does that tell you?

Can I ask you a question that will not bring about some sort of insult or demeaning answer?

Why do you hate Ron Paul?

I'm glad your showing your true colors. What happened to "you don't know me, so don't judge me". You should really practice what you preach.

And for the record, I was the tallest kid in my class through high school and those lockers for all I know only existed in tv shows because all we got were like 1 foot by 1 foot cubby hole type things. Another example of you not being able to materialize an original thought.

It's obvious you don't like him very much.

And you got nasty first buddy, so please, save the BS "true colors" crap. You showed yours a few pages back.

By posting a joke link?

And it's not whether I like him or not, it's that I don't care about him, at all. It has a lot more to do with his supporters and their irrational worship of his ideas and thoughts.
