It drives me crazy as well, the last 12 months have been the worst with the hardcore MCU fans who have had a go at me in a few threads for daring to air my complaints with the MCU movies.

I have been branded a DC fanboy and a troll in a few threads as well. Its why I did my sig because I got fed up explaining that if anything I am more of a Marvel fan, but I like good comic book movies no matter what character its based on. For me MOS was the best CBM this year, and I still think TDK is the best CBM ever, yet I am not a hardcore Batman fan at all.

I definitely think it's fair to compare Superhero films and that doesn't make anyone a DC or Marvel fanboy or girl. I agree with you that MOS was the best comicbook movie of 2013 and I thought Wolverine and Iron Man 3 were good films so that's not a knock on them at all. Thor: The Dark World was okay.

And that's great because your objective and you critique the film on the quality not whether its one company or another.

See I loved the Avengers and when that and Rises came out it got into a fight between hardcored Avengers and hardcore Batman fans aka Marvel vs DC. I was just like its really OK to like both movies. The arguments are laughable at times. Avengers is too fun, Dark Knight isn't fun enough. Can't people just accept that these are films and they're allowed to be different styles. If you don't like one that's fine but have a real reason other than the DC vs Marvel mentality. Personally I think people who side with something because its DC or its Marvel are really robbing themselves of entertainment.

Oh I agree, comparing them is part of the fun, especially on this forum, I love comparing them and debating which is the best, etc. But only when it is done in a friendly manner. I think MOS is one of the rare occasions me and you agree on a movie, we have had differing opinions often in the past yet have never been nasty to each other or called each other names. Thats the difference.

Just noticed Martha Kent works at SEARS. When Lois Lane visits her house shes wearing her work clothes. I know some people hated the product placement, but from the very beginning I saw it as a way to make Superman's world more realistic. I know its in there to make money, but honestly thats not how I saw it even today

One of the things that hurt the last battle was that it lost that realistic feel. The smallville fight took place in broad daylight and there was familiar locations everywhere. The Zod fight takes place in a CGI looking Metropolis dusk, and theres no famous landmarks or businesses in sight to let you know they are in the real world anymore. Therefore it lost some of the 'real' feeling.

^^^ they replaced with Lexcorp, Star Labs, Wayne enterprises (satelite), Utopia Casino, Blaze Comics, WGBS News making the city as in the comics futuristic. I really didn't want to have more real brands. I appreciated more comic book "places".

I love the ending as well. Love love love. It definitely feels earned to me.

And I actually really like the little scene with Lombard hitting on Lois. It really shows their lives are able to continue just the way they were before the tragedy (going to basketball games, hitting on co-workers, etc), all thanks to Clark and the strength of the human spirit in general (one of the film's main themes), and I think there's something endearing about that.

This is a complaint that, as a person who was in NYC on 9/11 and during it's aftermath (and is still here) baffles me: That some how people should have only been totally emotionally weighed down by the deaths caused by the attack on the city (not to mention the mischaracterization of said fights. Sorry haters, but Superman is not responsible for any of the collapsed buildings in Metropolis. One way or another that's all on Captain Boardwalk and the Leatherette Squad). Having lived through a real attack on an American city let me assure you that people went on doing all the things people do. Life didn't somehow stop. In NYC people were drinking, having sex, doing drugs, being petty and mean and all the other less noble aspects of the human character, some as soon as the evening of September 11, 2001. I won't hold a fictional city that experienced a fictional attack to a higher standard than the city I live in.

Agreed; plus, if I'm not mistaken..."Batman Begins" really delved into the aftermath of Ra's attack on the Glades, despite how all hell broke loose in the city.

Heck, we weren't even given a great insight on how the people really thought about Batman's presence UNTIL "The Dark Knight" came out...which was its followup and I have confidence that Snyder and Goyer will do the same in their follow up.

On another note, one of the other things that I really enjoyed from MOS was how it showed that someone like Superman, realistically, would not have the easy life that some ignorantly believe him to have.

Growing up the way he did, in today's type of world, where people can be judgmental and fearful of things that they don't understand...it's scary. People have to remember that in Clark's world, no one knows about the stuff that we the audience do in regards to how things will eventually turn up for him.

Clark basically gave up the idea of having a "normal life", because he felt it was the right thing to do due to his powers and how it could change the world in a potential negative life, along with how people would view him.

If anything, I feel like this film really revealed the double standards that people have on the character.

To me also with the scenes at the end of MOS its clear time has passed.

My opinion is, it was not great pacing to have a big, city destroying plot before we even get to know Metropolis. It would have been better saving that for the second film.

The thing is is Batman Begins the major damage (besides the citizens hit with the toxin) was the rail line heading into Wayne Tower that was shot out, as well as foundation of the building from when the train went crashing in. While in MOS we've got far more destruction and loss of life that wasn't even glossed over once the movie started to wrap up at the end. Sure time has passed seeing as life seems to be back to normal and there's even a basketball game later that night, but I didn't like how some major events not just in the city itself but in what Superman did to Zod and neither of which were addressed.

^I think the levels of destruction were relevant to the characters though. And you forget in BB most of the city were infected with Crane's toxin and Fox said producing the cure on a mass scale would take weeks, that was just forgotten about as well.

Heck, someone like the Joker wasn't even brought up at all in TDKR despite how big his reign of terror was and it didn't really destroy the film.

Agreed; i mean for a character that was like a defining point of the previous film, you could really feel the absence of his "legacy" or "presence" on screen.

Again with the supposed loss of life in Man of Steel, its the sane as Begins we didn't see it so its more an opinion on whether or not thousands died, etc. I personally think in MOS they showed you people evacuating buildings and Supes fights Zod in an empty building to show that mostly the areas they fight have been evacuated.

Good to see we're getting back to the real purpose of this thread, celebrating the great stuff about MOS. I've got a few gripes too, but this thread ain't the place for it.

So, here's my little thing for today, following on from the
desert scene comment.

The reveal of Superman, just hanging there in mid-air,
cape billowing in the wind, is just pure magic
There were 2 moments in this film where the reveal of
Superman gave me a huge thrill, as if Supes had flown
out of the pages of the comic and onto the screen.
This scene, and of course, the very first shot of Cavill wearing the
suit.

Seeing Superman there hovering above the army, that's
what Superman should look like. In those moments Cavill captured the
awesome presence of Superman (with help of course from Snyder
and co). It's not that Reeve didn't look at all like Superman, it's just that
we had to adjust our view of what Superman looked like, to match Reeve.
Brandon Routh got the job because he looked like Reeve. Cavill got the
job because he looked like Superman. Of course, just IMO.

And something else.....

...was re-watching the montage of Krypton's history, again really
like the way Kryptonian tech had its own specific look and feel,
the liquid metal was a nice change from all the holograms that seem
to be standard issue in every sci-fi film. A display that they could
walk around, nice !

....and of course the music. Hoping for more of the end title
which I suppose is the default new Superman theme in upcoming
films. It's powerful, uplifting and definitely the appropriate fanfare
for the 21st century Superman.

Infact the more I watch the film Escape from Black Zero is definitely my favourite sequence from the movie.

I love when he emerges from behind the "locomotive" at the end of the battle of smallville. I know we never see him accepted publicly, but seeing him accepted in the eyes of the military was even more impactful for me.

Nice ! I suppose that was Snyder's way of working in "more powerful than a locomotive." not all that subtle, but a nice touch.

And this is yet another reason I think Snyder is underrated. He's such a visualist.
