The Amazing Spider-Man The Lizard - How does he compare with Spidey's other onscreen adversaries?

You kidding me? Molina's Ock was spot on. Okay so he didn't have a bowl cut. So what? XD

Regarding the Lizard, it's like they kept teasing us with the classic labcoat look but it kept getting either blown off my bullets or torn off by the Lizard himself. It's almost as if they had a max legally binding amount of screentime allowed for the labcoat in each scene XD

Yeah that was very frustrating because he looked much better with it on. It does make sense for it to fall off but I can't ignore that if it looks better with it on.

He's a Lizard.

He's supposed to be transforming from a man into a Lizard. Not a Lizard who acts like a man, but a lizard with animal instincts.

The labcoat is a nod to the classic image, but they obviously wanted him shedding any images of civilization.

Correct.

But it still looks better with the labcoat on.

Still disappointed we never saw a full on-screen transformation.

No, he was a lizard-human hyrbrid who spoke fluent english, was able to read, operate advanced machinery and deliberately mix (and swirl) chemicals to create an explosive. Are you telling me those things are less civilized than leaving on a lab coat that he was already wearing before transforming?

Still disappointed we never saw a full on-screen transformation.

It would've looked too Hulk-like due to his size.

Lizard has to be my second favorite on screen villain. Nothing quite tops ock and the tower/train battle. But all the encounters with the lizard felt more "spider-man" if you will. Like the comic come to life. The way he fights lizard and uses his webs and surroundings was very fun to watch. Where the raimi trilogy felt more like straight up fist fights. Ifans acting is great too. So that's a plus.

The film is very good until the middle, and then it becomes a mess. Most of the scenes featuring Lizard were cut and somehow his character is not very well rounded. Until an extended cut is released this villain will remain weak and shallow.

Lizard was roughly as good as Doc Ock. Far better than Green Goblin, Sandman or Venom.

Curt Connors was an emotive and intelligent character with a unique determination to strive for normalcy at any cost. Even turning an entire population abnormal like him.

I, like most, wish he wore his lab coat and I thought his flat face was goofy. I also thought some of his lines ("I'm getting stronger everyday!") were cheesy. But in the end he was a great villain for Spidey's new origin.

1. Doc Ock
2. Sandman (rating the character and his design, NOT the plot about Sandman being the killer of Uncle Ben!)
3. Green Goblin / Lizard (Goblin had the better actor, Lizard had the better design)
4. New Goblin
5. Venom

I think the Lizard is the weakest one that has been done so far. The Green Goblin is the most menacing so far, but too the other villains had a strong backstory and a complicated background. This Curt Connors was just a scientist who became a transformed into a Lizard who wanted to thought he solved all of mankind's problems. What ever happened to his complicated backstory of having a wife and son that wanted to prevent him from going through this? Or was that too much like Spider-Man 2?

probably wouldve upset fans who'd think it was too similar to Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2

shame really because Octavius is supposed to be nothing like that. Really, Ock stole from Connors in that sense. But w/e.

I actually loved The Lizard's appearance, especially when there was a brief moment when he was wearing a tattered lab coat. His story was weak, but aside from that, I liked Lizard.

By Design:
1.) Doc Ock
2.) Sandman
3.) The Lizard
4.) Venom
5.) Green Goblin
6.) X Games Goblin

By Story:
1.) Doc Ock
2.) Green Goblin
3.) X Games Goblin
4.) Sandman
5.) Venom
6.) The Lizard (although I feel his story is not yet over)

Me too. I think they missed the chance of doing that when Connors injected stronger doses of the lizard serum.

The animalistic side should have eventually taken over and, with that, his appearance too, looking more like McFarlan's Lizard.

Yeah, now that I think of it, not once we got the totally animalistic Lizard! It could be said that in the school scene where Peter tries to talk to him, but he never responds other than with the roar, but it comes out of nowhere and soon the lizard is again himself

Thinking about the library/school fight that scene just ended all of a sudden and without any resolution. We know there was a deleted scene in which maskless Peter shouts to the lizard "Dr Connors, stop this, this isn't you!" -that was such a great moment, and such little moments build characters.
Just imagine.. the lizard advancing towards spidey while he is on the ground, and then Peter reminds him of his wife and child (which Connors mentions to Peter previously in a deleted scene I suppose) making Connors realize that the beast is taking over and leaves the library.
It appears that writers and producers just don't want to use the full potential of these characters.

Lizard was AWESOME.

Anyone seen this?

Curt Connors's story is very touching, yes! but Dr. Ock, I've seen SM2 a long time ago, but for what I remeber he was extrimly frustrated because every one underestimated him and bullied him and stuff, that's what makes him souch a deadly enemie for spidey! so yes, I think Dr.Ock is better, because he tries to show that he's not weak, he wants to show that he's very dangerous and believes that not even spider-man can beat him...but there's also the epic battle between spider-man and venom, in that matter I think SM3 kind of failed... I'd like to watch a bloody battle between them on the amazing spider-man 2!
