The Amazing Spider-Man The Lizard - How does he compare with Spidey's other onscreen adversaries?

Appearance
1. Doc Ock
2. Lizard
3. Sandman
4. Venom
5. Green Goblin
6. New Goblin

Would definitely switch 5 and 6 around, but agree with most of this appearance-wise. Even if Lizard's look isn't what I'd have, he at least looks like what the Lizard could look in a film, but I feel Green Goblin actually resembles something of a Goblin as Harry didn't look like one even while retaining the 'Goblin' name.

Script/Plot
1. Otto Octavius
2. Harry Osborn
3. Flint Marko
4. Curt Connors
5. Norman Osborn
6. Eddie Brock

Again agree with most of the list except I'd switch Harry Osborn and Curt Connors around. Harry had great development with three films culminating into a pretty worthwhile conclusion in Spider-Man 3. Flint Marko, while a terrible retcon, actually means something to S-M 3 plot wise and Norman Osborn, as Spidey's greatest enemy, feels only as rushed as Eddie Brock, although I do prefer the character of Green Goblin himself than Lizard but when speaking on plot, Curt Connors is better than Norman Osborn in the respective films.

Performance
1. Alfred Molina
2. Willem Dafoe
3. James Franco
4. Rhys Ifans
5. Thomas Haden Church
6. Topher Grace

This is where I'd make the most changes as I felt the performances by Molina, Dafoe and Franco were some of the best performances out of all four Spider-Man films, but I'd also say Ifans was better than Church.

In terms of acting I would put Ifans the lowest, even below Topher Grace and Haden Church

I don't know if I would go as far as to say he was murdered in SM3, but it does urk me that Raimi didn't like him. Kinda gave me the idea he wanted to screw the Venom fan-base over.

Stuff I disliked about SM3 Venom
Little screen time is prob my number one complaint about his treatment in SM3.
He asked Sandman for help. Honestly I wanted Venom to be a solo act not feeling the need to team up with people.
He called himself I instead of We, I know Raimi prob thought people would be thinking it was silly to hear him call himself We instead of I. But he should of put the hardcore fans above the casual viewer that won't care that much with how the character was portrayed.
Poor fight scenes, really him and Spidey did not have a single good fight in the movie. Maybe the falling in the sky was good but that was what 7 seconds? Seriously all he did was tie Peter up and taught him.
Exactly how was he going to himulate Peter when he has a whole crowd chanting his name? The point I'm getting at here was he was given poor lines.

Things some people don't like that I actually did
I love the design of Venom for what little time we actually got to see him, honestly the only slow scenes were when he took off the Venom face which is one of the best things about Venom.
I liked his size when compared to Spidey. I don't know why some people thought he was too small. I don't want Venom to look like the symbiote bonded with the Hulk.
Some people thought he sounded like a dinosaur, I didn't mind his noises during the fighting. I mean the symbiote is a alien. It should sound like a alien, not a deep voiced thing.

To sum it all up.
pros
Good design
Good size when compared to Spidey
Interesting choice for noises
I really liked that scene when the music plays and the symbiote is raising above them and Peter looks up in fear and Eddie looks up and smiles. Great Eddie/Symbiote relationship scene IMO.
cons
Short screen time
All the awesome Venom face scenes were too short
All the slow scenes were Eddie's face
I instead of we was used
Teamed up with Sandman
Bad dialogue
Not enough character development I wanted it to be explained that he has all Spidey's powers but stronger versions of them.

Very good post,
People had problems with less screentime and bad script but one thing they got spot on was the appearance and CGI.Topher did well to bulk up to look considerably bigger than Spidey
Had they decided to use venom in Sm4 it could have been a great movie

Not necessarily. Raimi simply didn't like Venom. With an entire Movie dedicated to him, we would have probably gotten even mora Emo Peter and milk & cookie scenes.

Since we're ranking the villains...

1. Doc Ock
2. Green Goblin
3. Lizard
4. New Goblin
5. Venom
6. Sandman

Church I felt did a very good job with Sandman, the movie itself notwithstanding, very subdued, and with a very eerie silent goal driven manner.

Still even if Raimi doesn't like Venom. If he had to do a Venom movie looks like he would of at least did it the way he felt fans would of wanted. If he wanted SM3 to be the worst of the trilogy to get even with the people that asked him to put Venom in, it only came back to hurt him since people said he was a bad director or Venom wouldn't of been the way he was.

I agree that Venoms size compared to Spidey was good. I liked his look overall. I just think knowing that underneath the great makeup, great cgi, and that facade of awesomeness was...Eric from that70's show.

Seriously, why pick Topher Grace as Venom. Why? If I had to guess it must be because they wanted someone who looked simillar physically to McGuire to better show the paralells between the two. Total fail imo. His look and his powers were good, but the casting of Venom took away from the overall badassness.

I was actually never bothered by Topher Grace. He could have been a good Brock with better development and had they went with the plot from the comics.

I still remember when people wanted him for Peter Parker, which I still could have seen.

Same. If anything, he did the best job he could with what he was given. I found all of Eddie Brock's scenes pretty enjoyable and fun, especially when he interacted with Jameson.

3) Harry/New Goblin (9)
4) Green Goblin (12)
5) Sandman (13)
6) Venom (16)

I don't know if the summary really shows who I enjoyed the most. I guess Doc Ock is the best villain for sure, but there are certain aspects about how Raimi used him that I absolutely hate. The arms "talking" to him being one of them. Also, it's pretty common here that people say Lizard wasn't used to his potential (which I agree with) but we never got to see the cold, masterplanning Doc Ock in SM2 either which I really missed.

Also, Sandman wouldn't be so close to Green Goblin.

I didn't like his Sandman in any way. He's at the bottom of my list. I felt he was boring on screen, had zero charisma and I just never cared about him.

We usually say that a good actor "did the best he could with what he was given", but I wouldn't even say that about Thomas Hayden Church. I'd give it to Topher Grace, though. I felt like he was really trying to build something and actually wanted to be there.

Too bad Venom sucked. Just less than Sandman, imo.

Yes, he really got to show off his acting abilities when he was spending precious screen time as a giant sand monster or a flying sand storm.

I still liked him in the role regardless.

I agree with your comments on church as sandman. He just seemed to put nothing into the character at all. Very disappointing.

Visually sandman looked amazing! But acting was bad.

I wouldn't mind seeing sandman again, done by someone who will put their heart and soul into the character. And the story for the character has to be better than what sm3 had for flint marko

I've always thought Sandman would be a decent adversary in an origin. I'm writing a TV pilot for Spidey, for the hell of it! And I've gone with Sandman as the opposition.

Are you makin an origin up for sandman or you using Markos original origin?

I like flints (William baker's) original story. No wife no kid, just crap child hood and a common thug. Spideys villains don't need to have a connection to Parker or have a tragic origin that sets them on a course to live a life of crime. Why can't one villian just be bad to be bad? No attachments, just a rotten person.

When I've introduced him he's already got powers, I'd keep the original origin probably. I haven't worried so much about doing Spidey's origin. We're just straight into it, he's starting at ESU, with Gwen and so on.

Agree with that. I might start a blog and do some fanfics in script form. I do have a whole season in mind - I have a lot of freetime haha.

Haha nothing wrong with free time :)

You think you ever look beyond your scripts, episodes....more than just writing them for fun and try to get more done with them?

Well I've got a script for something else being read by a director at the moment! Who knows :P

The first approval for this sort of thing is the fanboys haha. Harshest critics of all. I'd love to do something more with them definitely!!! It's the career I'm hoping to get into. Hard one to get into though.

I'll post a link when I'm done for people to take a look at.
